Let's give them some credit, this appears to be a very positive step in the right direction regarding our recruitment strategy. Keep this up and we will return to being the nation's 14th best team in no time.
Agreed but let's not rush this. We need to check that no other European club announces his signing in the next 4 weeks before we start to feel too congratulatory.
Can't believe you were brave enough to log back in after you got scared away by the big boys being mean to you before. Good for you, little man. Oh, and I never said that Wilshere was "in the under 23's squad", and you playing on that considering the amount of embarrassing, wannabe ITK crap you spew is truly hilarious.
Will be announced tomorrow which is understandable. He clarified this with an sms sent to extrabladet. Will see if I can find it.
I see that Bodo/Glimt fans are famous for carrying giant yellow toothbrushes to matches. I’m sure the 1881 can construct one in time for the next match with fans? Possibly with a strip of aqua fresh glistening on top?
He reckons we’re the best club in the league: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=https://www.tv2.no/sport/11865429/
Zinckernagel for TV 2: - The total package from Watford suited me best Philip Zinckernagel (26) has signed for Watford, and the Dane says to TV 2 the day before the transfer from Bodø / Glimt was announced that he is happy that everything is finally in place. - So far, everything has been perfect. The facilities and everything are top, top class, he says to TV 2 on the phone from England. It is no secret that the interest in the Dane has been enormous. There have been concrete offers from Germany, Spain and Turkey, among others, but the choice fell on Watford and the Championship. - Watford is a big club with high ambitions. When I saw the total package, it was a "no brainer", says the Dane and adds that he has just signed for what he believes is the best club in the Championship. - Did you get a bid from the Premier League? No, no concrete. I heard about something, but it was not something that was possible at the moment, says Zinckernagel. Kjetil Knutsen after the Zinckernagel transition: - Perfect timing Long days The days before the announcement were hectic, but the 26-year-old has already managed to get an insight into his new everyday life in England. - I have found a place in the locker room, trained with the physiotherapists and met many in the club. Tomorrow (January 1) I will train with the team. It has been a long day, he says. The goal is now clear: - To take Watford to the Premier League. That is the dream, he says.
A 5 and a half year contract supposedly. https://www.vg.no/sport/fotball/i/8...ord-avtalen-kunne-valgt-steder-med-mer-penger ZINCKERNAGEL ABOUT THE WATFORD AGREEMENT: - COULD CHOOSE PLACES WITH MORE MONEY The season's hottest player in the Eliteserien could pick and choose in offers, but in the end chose to sign a 5.5 year long agreement with Watford. The debut may come against Ole Gunnar Solskjær & Co.
He's clearly impressed with us, but English clubs in general are quite impressive for facilities in the top 20/30 clubs. But it seems like a very good signing to me. 5.5 years is a long time, so clearly the club see him as someone who will do well (although I think Gray got 5 years as well). Anyway all the signs on this one are extremely positive. Good player, excited to sign for us and will give the team something different. Not sure if he takes free kicks, but he certainly arcs in a nice delivery when running with the ball. It seems as though us getting Munoz was the tipping point in our favour. Zinckernagel on Xisco: "Their interest was there for a while, but it became much more interesting for me with the new, Spanish coach. He is more aggressive and offensive in his style of play." "I do not think I will be ready for the match against Swansea, but I hope I will be ready for the match against Manchester United in the FA Cup." "The opportunity to be able to play in the Premier League will be the greatest here at Watford, I think. It will be a dream come true to get there." "It was clubs like Schalke in the Bundesliga. Celtic were also a bit involved. I had to make a decision before Brexit and I had the best feeling at Watford." "It is a club [Watford] with great potential. The overall package with their ambitions, finances and my opportunities for playing time was the best here."
In fairness Schalke are even more of a basket case than us at the moment and I’d say the Championship is actually still a better shop window for the premier league than Scotland is.
Fan of Glimt here. First of all I'm sorry we lost this amazing player before next years season and possibly CL group stage. We were very close to beating Ac Milan (only away game) this year. Second: Football can be weird sometimes. Hear me out when I say this: Glimt with Zinckernagel and Hauge this last season would be in a top 5 position in The Championship, and probably would survive in any top 5 league (maybe not PL but...you never know). The Norwegian League has been lacking quality for some time since the years Rosenborg was able to beat any top team in the CL on a good day. Molde has gone through to the next round from this years EL group stage but Glimt is on another level at this time. Rosenborgs style of football was mostly lost when Nils Arne Eggen retired as head coach, but their copy cat further north (long seen as a farmer team to Rosenborg) kept developing and improving Rosenborgs style of play with 1/10 of the budget, 1/20 of the wage budget and only loccal talent, players other clubs did not want, free transfers etc. However Glimt put an insane amount of that budget on the academy, full time youth and B-team coaches from top clubs in Spain, England etc., top medical staff from England, and at last a full time mental coach. This season came as a shock to all of Norway, even if we finished 2nd last year. Still it has been a work in progress for over 10 years, and the clubs goal was to be at it's best possible level by 2023. In 2018 we sold all the best players, still 2nd next year, in 2019 we sold the best players, and had 73 to 1 in odds of winning the league in january, still we won it beating even numbers from the 50s and 60s when football was a different sport. What can you expect from Zinckernagel? Well give the guy the ball as often as possible. He will have less time to think in the Championship that will be the main difference, and maybe some of his tricks does not work as well here. He has rapid movement with the ball and likes to switch sides and hunt for openings both left, right and centre. He does not rush trying to score when other options is available and are very patiently waiting for the right moment. Even if defenders caught up to him the danger is not over, he has such excellent balance and movement, and are able to shoot from all angles. If he is able to copy that at Watford there will be much larger fish trying to buy him very soon. Also the coach of the Danish national team wanted to use him this year, but delayed it because of the Covid-19 situaton. Best of luck to you and Zinckernagel, for Glimt, even if we did not get a transfer fee, it's important for us that players like him perform when they go abroad. Transfer fees in the Eliteserien has been laughable, just recently AC Milan bought their new fan favorite Hauge for only 5 million after outplaying their defence the night before (while having an injury!) We need more money so we can buy better talents and reach CL every 2nd year or so. Hope he gets hes debut at Old Trafford, he is known to be better in the away games than at home.
Why? Schalke are having a torrid time at the moment and are certain to get relegated to the 2. Bundesliga in a few months which is even more of a nothing league than the Championship. The SPL is also a nothing league and PL clubs are often wary of signing players from there as it's such a jump. Without an offer from a PL club already, we'd be his best bet for him getting there - either getting promoted with us this season, or playing well enough in the Champ that he ends up in the shop window. Also, London would be far more appealing than Glasgow or Gelsenkirchen.
So, we have a right winger who is probably our best asset, and may be off this transfer window. We have a couple of left sided winger types players who are, pretty average at the moment, and we we have two forwards who can't hit a barn door with a banjo. Our attacking midfielders struggle with the lack of options ahead of them. And we just don't score goals. Where do you reckon Zinckernagel will best fit in?
In a song . Obvs. Heeaaay Zinkernaagel ooh aahh I wanna knoooow if you'll be my guy Copt2020. Crockett. My lawyers are watching
Thanks for the input, good luck to you in the Champions League, you must be excited for next season! Have to say we're all very excited about seeing him, hope it works out well for all of us!
Point taken on Schalke, though Celtic, for all their recent woes, are pretty much guaranteed Champions League/Europa League football, which is something we wouldn't be able to offer lol
They are also guaranteed to be knocked out in the qualifying rounds and/or embarrass themselves in the Europa group phase. Not sure too many players sign up for that anymore!
Where do we think he's most likely to play then? Seems he's adept at RW, LW and Second Striker/#10. Will he be taking the place of Sema, Sarr, Deeney or Gray?!
Wouldn’t surprise me to see him play as a No.10 in 4-2-3-1 which we are told is Xisco’s preferred system. No.10 with a free role to drift to either wing. Similar to what Grealish does.
Since arriving at Glimt we first used him as a attacking midfielder in our standard 4-3-3 formation, that was no success. Then he played as a striker some games and he was ok (since we sold our only striker late in the season), then as right winger, and the rest is....history (no one has created as many goals as him in the league history). Even though Zinckernagel has played on the right, the 20 last games or so he has been just as much on the left side in the game. Reason for this is simple, or top talent Hauge left for Milan. Glimts left side is much more capable of creative plays than the right side. He plays much better with creative players around him that understands his runs without the ball compared to our right back that often would just deliver Zinckernagel the ball without any further plan or capability to set up an overlap. If you could, I would put him with similar types of players as Bjørkan and Saltnes in Glimt, fast dribling and creative overlapping wing-back and a creative midfielder that are capable of top level positioning inside the box. So considering what you told me, start as LW/LM, and maybe move to RW/RM (depending on the player types around him) if your best asset is sold. At games like at Old Trafford, using him as a striker is no bad idea. He can be rapid at times, and Glimt punished high pressing teams with a long pass/through ball to Zinckernagel (they stopped this as fast that they learned they would loose 7-1, 5-0, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 even at home with the high pressure against us at the Eliteserien-level ) .
This could work, but then you must have a solid DM watching out for him when his dribbling fails, atleast for a time to get him comfortable in the new role. There is a reason we used to call him "Dribblenagel"
My brother and I were saying the same thing earlier. If we get every one fit and sign a Capoue replacement, our squad will be very strong going into the next half of the season. Foster, Bachmann Ngakia or Kiko Ekong Kaba Wilmot Sierralta or Cathcart Masina New signing, Hughes, Clevs, Chalobah, Garner Sarr Zinckernagel Sema Deeney, Pedro, Perica, Murray, Gray Throw in Success and Quina who will hopefully show a side to them we all hoped they would be and that’s probably the best squad to ever be in the championship. Gino seriously has one job to do. Sign a Capoue replacement. If he doesn’t, our CM will be our undoing.
