Pretty sure he is naturally a right back as well - he just played on the left because they didn't have a natural left back in the youth team and already had a better right back. Don't really see it as any better than us just sticking Kiko out there out of position.
Can PL players still move to other PL clubs until the domestic deadline? Or is it just EFL-PL and vice versa?
No they can't, but if Utd rejected the chance for him to play in the PL with Southampton they won't a week later let him go to the Champ. They must have kept him because they still want him in their squad, and if he were to go on loan in the near future, say January, then he'll likely have PL offers again.
The Brandon Williams one is a bit odd. They’ve now signed Alex Telles so Williams is third choice - if they were in the Europa League I’d understand it but they won’t play reserves in CL or the PL so he’s likely to be kicking his heels most of the season or until January at least. Seems a bit silly not to send him out to the Championship with a January recall inserted.
Maybe they see Southampton as direct competition and don't want to strengthen them. Sent from my Nokia 7 plus using Tapatalk
Williams is right footed so is probably better off as a RB anyway, with Dalot gone to Milan on loan he's cover for AWB at right-back whilst also being capable of playing LB if things go badly with Telles/Shaw.
I’m happy to take anyone who is an improvement on what we have. You’re right about Kiko - but if we switch to a back four, I want him nowhere near the FB positions on either side.
Ahh I knew he was right-footed playing competently at LB but I didn’t realise United didn’t have a backup RB. Fair enough.
Totally agree with the improvement of the squad aspects and Kiko at fullback. I just dont like the unbalance of a right footer playing leftback or vice versa.
As per reids' post above, he'll be backup right-back. He has played both positions throughout his time in their youth teams.
As stated above, he'd instantly be the best CB in the league. Troost Ekong and Saliba would be an insane back two, and TE Saliba Kabasele be an insane back 3. Make it happen Gino.
Saliba has been left out of Arsenal's Europa League squad, so seems likely a loan move somewhere is in the offing.
Last season Leeds had to stump up £5m for Eddie Nketiah for what was initially a season long loan, but. which turned out to be just half a season when Arsenal recalled him. If that's how Arsenal are still looking to develop their squad players then they aren't coming here.
T-E + Saliba would def be an excellent back two. If we also brought in a good left-back, say Rahman, I'd be tempted to even try a 4-4-2, which I think could make the most of the players at our disposal, say: Ngakia - T-E - Saliba - Rahman Sarr - Capoue - Hughes - Sema --------- Gray Perica That would surely be good enough to get promotion.
Just FYI, Brandon Williams played on both sides in the U23s, so he’s capable of doing a job on either flank. He’s right-footed, but plays on the left.
Just seen that Williams has surprisingly been left out of Utd's CL squad, with Fosu-Mensah picked as the backup right-back ahead of him. It makes them rejecting Saints' loan move even more strange. Perhaps they're just saving him for Cup games.
He’s on their B List and can be added to the squad up to 24hrs before any game - Greenwood is in the same boat. I assume it means they would have to nominate a player to drop out but it basically means he’s included in the squad should they need him. You’d imagine Greenwood will be in every squad so I think it’s just a way to select more over-age/overseas players.
I thought I was the only person on this forum who actually supports Man Utd, but this thread proves I’m not alone.
You could say the same about Kiko, who has had some decent games at left back, but it doesn't mean I want him starting there for us on a regular basis.
The article below says they paid 'over £2m' as a fee but I've read several times it was £5m or thereabouts. It could mean the sum for the whole deal was £5m including wages of £35k p/w which they are reported to have paid in full. https://onefootball.com/en/news/lee...ey-to-bring-in-eddie-nketiah-on-loan-26701153
https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/ars...s-over-saliba-loan/1hj8474kz22os1qh4geduk4sq0 Arsenal in talks with Championship clubs. Brentford one of the clubs to have expressed intert, but Arsenal not going to rush into deciding where to send him.
Probably be a deadline day decision when they see which Championship club still has all their best players and not decimated by PL clubs.
Maybe it was meant to be £5mil for the season, but because Arsenal recalled him halfway through the proposed deal they only paid about half the fee?
I mean he'd be a real coup for Brentford, Norwich, or whatever Championship side get him, so I'd like us to get him just so that they don't, but we don't really need another CB
