“Expected to be worth more than £10m”

Sounds like perhaps the €7.5m with 50% sell on could be about right? It’s strange wording (not to mention very uncharacteristic of Watford to state a fee, barring Estupinan).

Luis Suárez has completed a permanent move away from Watford to join La Liga side Granada in a deal expected to be worth more than £10million.

Another shrewd piece of business by the club. Got £25m for two players who have never played for us. Gino is a genius.
(the fact they are probably worth at least £50m doesn't fit the narrative, so has to be put down to Covid, not the club's brilliant negotiating skills. Just imagine if we were not so brilliant at negotiating.....we'd have got less than £10m for both players...bare that in mind)

10 million for a player that's never scored a top flight goal? Baffling

Not sure why both clubs took so long to announce this, both made the announcement this morning.

Yep we have some very nutty fans. One of first tweets in response lauded Pozzo as a king for getting these figures for Surez and Estupinan. Oddballs.

In my opinion, the worst symptom of relegation yet. But I accept it the club had to act.

But we have floundered around for the last couple of seasons desperate for a goalscorer and in my opinion, finally unearthed someone who fit the bill and has real promise...sadly we have chosen that moment to drop to a level where players simply don’t want to play for us. But we have to accept that.

The players attitude has clearly been all wrong (I don’t blame him for wanting to leave but seems he’s gone about it in a bit of a bad manner to the rest) so I don’t blame Ivic for wanting him gone one bit.

As for the fee, it is what it is. To a certain extent we had to get what we could I suspect due to the players attitude. I hate this day and age where players always get what they want rather than being brought into line.

But let’s also not kid ourselves that relegation isn’t costing us worse this summer than if we had gone down in any previous year. Just horrifically bad timing.

Honestly he didnt want to be here, so he is best gone. Don't feel its fair to comment on the financial aspect of the deal as it really has nothing to do with me.

From reading between the lines in press conferences it looks like he basically downed tools and said he wouldn't play and wanted a move. In that case best for all parties that he moves on.

For all the complaining about the fee - the **** was literally refusing to play, train, or have anything to do with the club. Hope he breaks his leg.

Think the financials on the deal are absolutely ******* dreadful, as I have said enough times.

On the other hand, if we was playing up as Ivic seems to imply, I don't see we had much choice but to sell which makes things harder.

I do hope the club learn from this moving forwards though and actually start integrating these talented young lads sooner in the process so they don't develop such disdain for the club that actually owns them.

I don’t get this concept of not being able to comment on financial aspects of a deal. It’s your club. If Deeney was given a 150k per week 3 year extension tomorrow would you also feel you can’t comment?

It’s not our money, but the success of otherwise of transfer dealings in general impact the amount we can reinvest in the playing squad of our club. I’m not sure why some think it is inappropriate to comment on deals whether good or bad.

Yeah, from both ends of the spectrum, those that call this great business and those that are being overly dramatic about it all. I imagine most fans are in the middle and will shrug their shoulders and move on without a second thought whilst the weirdos from both sides will continue to argue about it long into the night.

Pretty awful deal but not much you can do if he is refusing to play (and the manager has said he won't be involved as a result) and we seem to be struggling to get rid of a lot of other players.

Still think we need a replacement for him but won't hold my breath.

If we don't go up this year, it'll be because we don't score enough.

Ivic’s words suggest the possibility that the club was telling the truth when it claimed he was in its plans (as much as any player is until an offer appears). That he didn’t want to be here makes subsequent events a bit easier to understand. No one is going to wash dirty linen in public ahead of a sale and potentially undermine his value.

To be honest, let's just get the next one out of the door too, whether that be Capoue, Deulofeu, Deeney, Pussetto or Welbeck. And after that, the next one.

Getting maximum value at this stage in the transfer window in this market isn't possible, let's just get them all off the books, service what debt we can and see if there's a few pennies left over to bring in a cheap new player or two.

Agree with the point generally, although I'm not even sure this is an issue of character.

I just don't think these players ever saw themselves as Watford players, because they were never treated like Watford players.

Makes it very hard to convince them to stick around and help out when they have an offer to play European football in the club their wife lives in.

simple really. i dont know the financials of the deal so i cant comment, if its £9.5m and a 50% add on then its probably a good deal. If its the £7.5m and 50% add on that can be bought out at £15m then its a pretty so-so deal. fact is we dont know.

lets be honest though. he didnt want to be here. he didnt care about the club. he didnt care about the fans. so a move is best for everyone. i will be interested to see how he does this season, but for all the lauded interest to me it speaks volumes that the only team that actually seem to have bid for him were granada. if he was the messiah then im sure a.madrid, barcelona etc would have been interested.

There clearly quite a large amount of middle ground between being sold for 10m and being Barca's messiah ...

So it looks like it is 7.5m euros initially, then 50% sell-on. Would much rather have been guaranteed to get the 15m, but I think we'll probably see the extra 7.5m at some point. The most confusing transfer saga is over now lol, time for everyone to just move on now

Don't get all the hate towards the club over this.

As YellowKicks said, he refused to train and play for us, therefore he goes down as one of the biggest c**ts to ever be associated with our club! The club is then bent over a barrel as Granada clearly knew this and knew they could push the price down as we'd have no choice but to sell. I have a slightly different view on this anyway, i'd have kept the pr*ck here and played him in the U23's just to spite him, but that's the childish side of me not the business side/reality.

To get £25m for two players this summer that DIDN'T want to be here and never played one competitive game for us is very good business! Sure, he could go on and become a superstar, but that's not a guarantee either. He's 22/23 years old, he's only played at worse than our current level, so if he was going to be a huge star he'd have been in the top flight in Spain before now.

I remember a time as a bunch of supporters when we were happy as long as a player was committed and wanted to pull on the shirt! As soon as one doesn't we don't seem to care and it's all the fault of the club!? F**k off.

Watford Observer claiming its £13m paid over 2-3 years and a sell-on fee.

Whilst every penny helps, a third of £13m isn’t going very far to service debt in the next 12 months. If we were selling for this kind of fee, it’s annoying we haven’t found anyone to just pay the full sum in one.

So after selling Estupinan, Suarez and Doucoure for a grand sum of £45m......I think we can well and truly put to bed that the club drive a hard bargain.

But when a club comes along with £10m for Suarez, that's an offer no one in their right mind could refuse.

Few deals are completed 100% upfront. Our obligations will be structured over time so knowing that £13m minimum is on it's way over 3 years will enable us to factor that full sum into projections and maybe avoid other player sales. Not a bad price plus sell-on fee for a player who had no intention of ever playing for us.... if it's correct.

13-15m is probably about what you would expect for him in todays market really in my opinion. i thought all the we should get 20m for him ideas were a bit extravagant. it is disappointing that he has gone but if he was as good as we all think then one of the big boys would surely be interested? the fact they are not speaks volumes about the global football market at the moment and also about the players potential. one good season does not make a player.

You need to get yourself some prozac m8. You seem in a pretty dark place since relegation. It would be a bad deal if we were still in the prem and there was no CV19 impact. Need to face our reality. "Its a sad sad situation" but it IS our situation.
