I like Suarez but to play devils advocate, the segunda division overall isn’t better than League one + scored the same amount of open play goals as Tyler Walker last season (14). I’d argue getting €15m for a player that’s already 23 who’s just had his first consistent season is good business in a COVID-19 market

We've signed ones like Statham. To be honest, I don't know where or when some of the players we've had signed for us - Including Luis. Matheus & Becerra seemed to just appear from somewhere, and I briefly remember the Perv being signed. There could well be some on our books we haven't known about.

    Good riddance,

Another player down that Emma Saunders can’t say ‘Hello You’ to in the Hive Live studio.

£25m for Doucoure, €15 for Estupinan and €15m for Suarez, and an undisclosed for Pereyra (Let's say €10m. More pessimistic price)

We've generated approx. £58m in sales based on those figures and some cursory Google calculations. I'm sure this will be wrong but the rough figure is there.

I may have imagined it but I think there's was some report about FIFA having a crack down about clubs loaning out dozens of players like us and Chelsea do. Could be a factor. Again, there's a very good chance I imagined this.

I think Estupinan was £15m rather than Euros in all the reports I found.

The official site says 'around £15m' which is hardly clarifying things.

€15m is all well and good but as mentioned a few pages back on this thread, it leaves us light on actual goal scorers up top.

Pedro and Sarr are brilliant, but don't look like natural finishers.

Deeney is coming back from injury and always has his fitness injuries. Poor last season.

Gray is injured and also been badly out of form for a few years.

    Welbeck not involved.

    Murray looks dreadful.

Perica doesn't have a great record, didn't overly impress in the cup games and is also suspended for the next two games which doesn't help things.

I don't think we will as we seemingly can't get rid of two of Deeney, Gray and Welbeck, but I think we should get a poacher style striker in.

    Gino, you absolute genius!

I'm so, so shocked that he won't ever play for us, as I said early on, and that we are now selling him for a pittance.

It's OK, we've got Murray, Deeney and Perica. Immense.

I think a lot of people keep missing this.

Unless a club is bankrolled to the point that gates don't matter, Covid has caused a significant drop in income that will radically reduce available money for transfer fees.

Then don't sell now. Hasn't he got 3 years left on his contract?

So let's say around £60m then. That's a very large amount of proft generated, as well as wages off the bill. Still Capoue, and likely Deulofeu and Welbeck as well.

But we need cash. Ideally you flog the duds, but unsurprisingly no one wants them.

Yep. Watford will have to sell players with half decent resale value. Championship only offers out £34m in comparison to Premier Leagues £100m. It’s more about sustaining the club than anything else

Perica has looked fairly decent to be fair. Had an absolute Britos moment though which is less than helpful.

  15. I'm way more concerned about Sarr and Hughes than Suarez. In Pedro, Sarr, Gray, Deeney and Perica we have enough goals at this level provided our defence stays mean.

Then you don't sell. You do other deals, maybe loans or suchlike and wait until the market is better. To sell huge talents like Estupinan and Suarez for such low figures is madness. You cannot just give your best players away.

What's €15m in football these days? It's nothing. Ollie Watkins.....£33m.......this is the type of fee we should be getting. Hold on to him for another year, loan him out to Granada, let him make a name for himself in the top league then sell him. I really don't think Watford ever get good value for their players. They always seem to sell low and rarely cash in at the optimum time.

Lost a fortune on Ighalo, Deeney and Doucoure over the years. Even the deal they made selling Assombalonga all those years ago was a very poor one. I don't think they are very good at selling players. Sure, they can spot them and have quite a few successes, but selling for a good price is not their forte.

At this rate that 15m we need to be used on sponges for this forum.

What has Perica actually done to get this tag of looking "decent" though? I'm honestly not sure where people are getting it from? Seems like desperation to justify the very poor forward line we now have.

Did nothing in two cup games except miss a load of chances in the first and get sent off in the second, and then a couple of decent touches and yet another missed chance in the Wednesday game and not much more.

He's hardly scored goals at any point in his career. There's a reason for that.

Watkins is English, playing at a considerable higher level and has a history of scoring + selling to a club in the Prem. Watford getting £14m for Suarez is the equivalent to Rotherham getting £14m for Freddie Ladapo

You definitely didn't, I remember reading it too. Think the plan was to limit it to five players per club or something. But then I presume it can't have come into force as I'm pretty sure Chelsea still have their legion of loanees!

Might the reason not be because of the new FIFA regulations regarding loans?

  26. Arakel

Oh, is that all? So your strategy in the interim is to take out even more loans and get further into debt so that we might sell a player for more in the future when he has less time on his contract? Because yes, that's the alternative given that we can only sell players others want to buy.

    Bold strategy, Cotton.

Yes crazy. They should have just said €25m or nothing and Granada would have just paid €10m more. It’s like they’ve never negotiated a player sale before. You should give them a call and offer your services.
It’s a sh1t market, we need to sell and he doesn’t want to be here.

I think another few need to go as you say.

Wages rather than cash as the issue now sounds right.

Might yet be Deeney going if an offer comes in.

I still think Gerry D will be January.

Probably, but then I wouldn't have screwed up so much last season to have got relegated. So I doubt I'd be in the position to have to sell all my young talent for crazy low prices.

Deulofeu had a strong Napoli rumour last week, though gone quiet since. Welbeck will go to an Astron Villa or West Brom type team on domestic deadline day. Capoue will be another large chuck saved. In essence, the players we thought would leave will. Pusetto I have no idea.

Deeney I think will stay, as will Sarr, Hughes etc.

He doesn’t want to be here. The choices therefore are a) take the best offer now, which means that we potentially don’t have to sell another player that wants to be here or b) loan him out, get no immediate benefit (apart from a small amount of wages off the books) and take a punt that his value may go up.
