If signing Murray yesterday doesn't convince Deulofeu that this is a club on the up, nothing will.

He's never played with such a good striker in all his time at Watford

Little known fact, but Ismaila Sarr is a huge Rochdale fan and had posters of Glenn Murray on his bedroom wall when we was growing up in Senegal.

    Giraldi and Pozzo’s masterstroke.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...ansfer-notebook-european-clubs-circle-around/

"Watford forward Gerard Deulofeu is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a serious knee injury and is a target for AC Milan, Napoli and Sevilla on a loan with an option to buy.

The Spain international has been in his homeland living with his personal physio during lockdown to get himself fit after anterior-cruciate ligament damage suffered in March against Liverpool.

Deulofeu, 26, is likely to be fit for the early part of the season, which has put him on the radar for a move before the end of the transfer window on October 5. Premier League clubs are monitoring his fitness, knowing that relegation last season means Watford will allow their key players to leave for the right deal.

Milan took Deulofeu on loan three years ago before Barcelona activated their buyback clause on him. Napoli have an interest in bolstering their forward line, while Sevilla are prepared to take him back to La Liga."

I know it’s wages off the books - but I won’t see the overall benefit in allowing him to go on loan with only an option to buy. Has to be mandatory purchase surely?

If getting Delefeou off the books for c.£20m enables us to keep Sarr and Suraez for the season then this could be good news. Whether anyone would pay that at the moment, with him still injured is doubtful- so this could run to the end of the window

Agreed and I don't see the point in a loan unless it's an obligation to buy for a similar price to what we are selling Doucoure for.

I would imagine we need significantly more than £20M to allow us to keep Sarr and/or Suarez.
If they had the bottle they should keep Sarr etc until January to see where we are.If we are in a stronger position(automatic promotion places)then they can decide if we should keep them for the whole season and make the gamble payoff.
I would be happy if Sarr and Gerry were to leave that it would be on loan for this season. If we get promoted we'd have two automatic PL starters available to us without any extra cost.
It is a difficult balancing act but Pozzo and co got us into this mess so they need to make the decisions to get us out of it.
Who has the confidence they will?

A loan with an obligation of purchase to follow if he'd been fit enough to play X games perhaps.

If not he comes back to us.

If we give the other club an obligation to buy I assume we’d have no chance of retaining him if we got promoted straight back to the PL next season. An option gives us more control.

Loan with a view to a permanent transfer would probably be the most likely outcome, how would that affect us? Even if the future fee would suit us, would we really need the money now, or would getting, say, £20m next season be fine?

Not sure that it's acceptable to discuss a potential transfer in the context of the clubs financial requirements...

Why would we loan him out with an option to buy, because surely that would put all the cards in the hands of the team that takes him on that basis.

If he has a good season with them then they get to buy him out from under us, but if he does not do well, maybe because unfortunately he turns out not to be the same player after his injury, which would mean we get left with a lame duck.

It could be structured in a certain way that suits us, what was the one we did for Vydra, score 10 goals and they had to buy him for £10m? Something like that. That’s not to say it will be though.

Agreed a19, it would have to be at least a prearranged minimum purchase price, which is hopefully what we will negotiate as part of the deal if it happens.

I don’t begrudge the guy wanting to leave but since he doesn’t want to be here we’d be mad not to sell permanently for some of the prices being quoted

Villa paying ...£28m rising to £33m for Ollie Watkins..... Sarr must be worth £60m+ That is absolute madness for a championship player who's never kicked a ball in the Prem

Sarr is worth what a club is prepared to offer for him. £33m seems a crazy price but won't affect what others offer for Sarr.

    Does he?

His first action is just outside the box and it's SHOOT.

    Or touch and SHOOT.

We ask him to do far too much which is not his strength.

Feed him through balls and ask him to shoot. Simple.

Quite. But Brentford turned down £18m from Brighton not long ago - so while what you say is true, there’s also mileage in taking your time to deal with offers calmly.

Yes but his value has only increased due to the identity of the buyer. Unfortunately AV don't want to buy any of our stars sitting in our departure lounge. Cheapskates like WBA want to loan them !
In our position turning down offers for players is a gamble, we may get a higher bid or they may buy an alternative and we may be stuck with them and no cash !
What AV pay for a player has no bearing on the value of any of our players was my point.

Not sure I agree about Cash - a young footballer with lots of promise. What they paid was an average fee in this day and age. But agree on the broader point.

Of course it can !! But what AV paid for Watkins won't affect what Liverpool or another pay for Sarr !
