Saying Wilmot should be too good for the Championship is a bit far fetched.

From what i've seen of him he looked like he could do a job in the PL. Maybe he shouldn't have been included in that list, but he's clearly more than good enough to start for a championship side.

He couldn't even keep his place at Swansea, they brought in Guehi over him. He'd probably be a starter at a mid-table Champ club, but he's not shown he's a top Championship defender yet.

Probably the only young CBs who showed themselves to be too good for the Championship last season were Ben White and Joe Rodon, and Wimot just doesn't seem at the same level.

Few rumours today that if Messi does leave then Barcelona will move for Mane.

I'd imagine if that does happen, the Sarr rumours will surface again.

Would be a step down for Mane at this point, albeit I'm sure he still wouldn't turn down Barcelona. In any case, is Sarr good enough for Liverpool now? All well and good building for the future, but you need to think about the here and now too (cough cough Capoue)

He hardly put a foot wrong for them though, and since Guehi was supposedly brought in to last them until the end of this season (I don't know if that's been confirmed), I can see why they put Wilmot aside, it's definitely not a slight on his ability

Though Swansea fans singing Alfie Mawson's praises might make some of us question their judgement when it comes to centre-halves!

do we really see messi leaving barca? it all seems like a massive ploy to force internal change. put it this way no one is paying that release clause, and i am not sure he has a leg to stand on legally otherwise.

Wasn't Wilmot also meant to be with them until the end of the season? Ultimately, if he'd impressed the staff massively then I doubt they'd have looked to bring in Guehi to play instead of him; if someone had really been one of your best players then you wouldn't replace them for little reason.

Wilmot was always going back at the end of the season though, whereas Guehi was sticking around. He also had injury problems and got shunted around in midfield a bit

If Wilmot was any good, he'd have the big clubs sniffing round. Get rid and carry on with our 'good enough for the PL say the stats' defence. Also, forget Mawson, Gibson and whoever else. Kaba, Cathy, Craigy D will do the business.

We have no time or room to develop any players like Wilmot who are rubbish.

If what the Athletic have said is true, Barcelona are strapped for cash at the minute. I doubt £100m would buy Mané.

Mind you, they're going to have to replace Messi with someone aren't they?

I know of one PL club who have had to cancel two friendly games because of players/staff testing positive. I wonder if that's happened to us or if the club have decided against many friendlies for that reason.

Possible. I guess they could make up for it with a couple of intra-squad friendlies? So much could change in the next few months. Wouldn't rule out another lockdown.

You’ve done well to write tomorrow’s opponents here without censorship.

It was always one of those words that got asterixed.

Times they are a changing it seems.

So Sarr is in Senegal apparently and will therefore not be available (factoring in the 2 week quarantine) for the opening game

Unfortunately there won't be a stream. Just have to keep updated via the Watford socials.

I think tomorrow will be interesting, if only to see who's actually been training this past fortnight. We know the likes of Sarr, Estupinan and Femenia won't play a part (I believe Pedro has been isolating too). Sema is quite possibly the only winger who's trained at all, so I wouldn't be surprised if we play a 3-5-2.

    Is Pussetto still here?

Without Sarr we literally don't have any other right-sided wingers/attackers as far I can tell.

    I predict something like this:

    Foster
    Kabasele, Dawson, Cathcart
    Ngakia, Chalobah, Quina, Hughes, Sema
    Suarez, Gray

Quina talked about them working a lot on a new shape, but in general 3-5-2 does not seem to be Ivic's preferred approach in any way.

Even though Sarr may be missing, surely the priority will be continuing to get players as used as possible to whichever the new shape is, even if it means playing one player out of position, rather than changing everything just because one player has gone away for a bit.
