I hate Norwich city with a passion. However and as much as I’d love to see them go down and us stay up, how can you possibly disagree with what they are saying?

It really is an utter nonsense, void the season at all levels and start again with what is the norm at that time re empty stadia or not.

First of all I would like to say that unless it is safe for football to restart then I believe the season should be scrapped altogether.

However if the team owners get their way and the PL is played out to the end, but the Championship is decided in some non-footballing way, such as points per game. Then it is possible the bottom 3 PL teams might not think it would be fair for them to be replaced in the PL by 3 Championship teams that have not actually won their places on footballing merit.

However, if the football powers insist that there must be promotion and relegation a possible compromise that would at least have some sort of footballing merit could be to have actual playoffs, based on two legged games home and away between : - 18th in PL v 3rd in Championship; 19th in PL v 2nd in Championship and 20th in PL v 1st in Championship. With the 3 winning teams on aggregate playing in the PL next season and the 3 losing teams playing in The Championship.

This format would probably also help to please the TV companies too as they could televise all 6 matches.

I know this would mean 6 more matches would have to be played, but if the PL has already been played to a finish then it might be a way to avoid football tearing itself apart with all sorts of legal ramifications over relegation and promotion.

You're at it again aren't you? It's going to be tough getting these PL games in anyway so let's then add a few extra games at the end.....against championship sides who won't have played a competitive game in 3-4 months.

Absolutely not. It would be unacceptable for any premier league team to have to play MORE games, it would be even more unacceptable to do so if the championship team’s who will replace them have played LESS games.

If the PL season is completed then the PL have had their pound of flesh, they don’t need to be appeased further, arguably they would’ve had far too much already given the circumstances.

If the FA insist on promotion and relegation regardless and if they somehow do have the power to enforce this, then it can only be on the same terms.

If the championship season finished at this point last season Leeds would’ve been promoted wrongly, Sheffield Utd would’ve missed out on an automatic spot and probably would not have won the play offs, and villa were not even in the play off spots. So anything other than completing the season would’ve likely returned a result that was 2/3rds inaccurate to reality.

If you can’t apply the exact same conditions to the teams coming up and down then neither must happen. If the FA insist on promotion and relegation it can only be if both leagues complete their seasons.

I have to admit I had not thought about the 3 or 4 month lay off, that could put a fly in the ointment.

Overall I actually agree with you, as I don't think any of the current solutions should happen.

I am just trying to suggest possible solutions to the conundrum, if the football authorities INSIST on relegation and promotion despite the potential uneven playing fields that are being suggested by the powers that be in the football world.

    WITHOUT PREJUDICE

    Dear TVOR,

I've forwarded this idea to the PL and EFL for their consideration.

On another note, I'm pleased you started the post by qualifying your position. As on any football forum, this is a huge requirement to being taken seriously and the idea being implemented by members of this forum.

    Many thanks

I can’t help but think if we were in the bottom 3 with Norwich and Bournemouth, they would do what they did in France and call the league over and relegate us. However, having Villa in there isn’t ideal for the money men. Making their tough tough lives even harder.

What do you mean? Are you saying Aston Villa generate more income for the 'money men'? Everything about Villa is tediously dull and boring, sooner we get rid of them the better.

The daughter of a friend of mine married an Ipswich fan and rabid Canary-hater. My friend is a composer, and he wrote a very nice piece played at the wedding reception. Halfway through, the strains of On The Ball, City drifted in .....

I’ve lived in Norwich for many years and is indeed a very nice place to live. However they seem to have a significant number of supporters who think they are a ‘big’ club and look down their nose at tinpot Watford.
More importantly, it’s football and since when have you needed a rational reason to hate another club??

In our house, and that of my sister and husband, we’ve decided to switch our attention to Germany. All picking a team from the Bundesliga hat so that we have an affiliation to pique our interest further.

What does the Bundesliga hat look like and who did you get?

If I did that I'd remove Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig from the hat before choosing. RB are totally manufactured and Bayern are the German glory hunters club.

When I used to live in Nuremberg I used to go and watch them, they are the West Brom of Germany. Past glories, yo-yo club currently in 2nd tier and the locals speak the worst accent in the country (which I incidentally picked up).

Turns out footballers aren't the only foolish ones when it comes to lockdown rules:

"Augsburg head coach Heiko Herrlich will miss the Bundesliga restart after breaching quarantine rules by leaving the team hotel to buy toothpaste."
