Do we (and other teams outside the elite for that matter) a) muddle on with next season's PL money, b) survive, but have to make cutbacks, or c) face a similar fate to teams like Barnet and Hearts?

(Assuming it's just this season voided and that we're back to something like normality for next season)

More importantly, what happens if the League can't start up against until the end of the year/next year - then we'll be ****ed alongside many other teams.

Probably b). But if we do end up going down we will make cutbacks regardless. Big wage players will be sold to ease the burn a bit and parachute payments only hold so long.

I do not see us turning into Hearts/Barnet. Despite our p1ss poor transfer windows esp. Januarys, we are well run. If Gino jumped ship if we went down we might have to rely on bare bones like we did after Vialli screwed us over.

You say we are well run but we aren’t compared to Burnley say. Despite numerous poor windows we have significant debt.

Can't see next season starting this year.

The pyramid will probably have a fair few less leagues and divisions when it finally does get underway.

That does seem a distinct possibility, yes.

Something some will say should have happened many years ago. Far too many professional teams. But who are we to judge ? We had it not been for God and SEJ been there ourselves still. Would we countenance it ? The problem is that all of the finances are concentrated on a few while the others scrape along on the crumbs. And reflecting society those that are awash with money want even more.

You can see quite a few clubs exiting the professional football business. Those with the resources to survive will always be able to sell the product through a subscription model. Either the current TV sports channels, new internet providers or direct to customer.

Content always has a value. Football is in a stronger position than say Pro Rugby Union or Cricket. However it may mean a longer season, Saturday 15.00 on TV games, and other changes.

I suspect lots of industries in the entertainment market are going to struggle to survive (can you see cinema recovering from 3 months of lock down and a scramble for internet subscriptions like Amazon Prime). So pervisely, live sport maybe become more attractive, it could also drive up stadium attendances. As people respond to the removal of the current restrictions.

I think the best bet is it goes into hibernation until Covid is gotten on top of. Probably next year.

get all the players to agree a reasonable wage £20000 a month tops or they get laid off.

surely wages are the biggest costs they have? The other staff get laid through the government scheme

Again, people live by their means. It’s not as simple as just making a player who used to get £80k per week suddenly get £5k per week. He will have a mortgage to pays. Probably kids school fees, child-minder fees, any number of other hidden costs.
The idea comes from the right place but it simply isn’t practicable.

Players should universally be being encouraged to donate a percentage of their wages that they can afford once they deduct what they absolutely need for however long this lasts.

Rugby players are being asked to take wage cuts. And some are high earners. Irish contracted players from the four provinces are already doing so.

The WRU has cancelled and voided the entire domestic club season. No promotion or relegations at all. And at FC Sion what Burnsy was referring to has already been implemented. Some have refused and been sacked. Rightly so. Selfishness does not help. And who else is going to sign them up at the present time ? I feel for the upcoming younger players but those like Djorou and Song sitting on a pile need to take a look at themselves.

Got to be honest , the prospect of staying in the house with nothing to look forward to is killing me

I think football should open behind closed doors next week , all of the players are fit and healthy (well not ours obviously) , most of them will be alright and let’s be honest some of our players like Bachman couldn’t catch anything anyway (yes I know this joke has been made many times before , but feel it’s our duty to get this into every thread until we are back)

Will be interesting to see if it’s written into their rules for that to happen. I have a real issue with allowing the top 2 from the Championship up unless their is a specific rule to allow that.

Interesting if they do this though as I read that UEFA would pressure all domestic European leagues to adopt the same stance across the board.

That's their emergency plan in case they can't finish in time. It's still not 100% out of the question that they are still able to start again or negotiate with UEFA for a slight extension to when the season could finish.

Having said that, looking at their table it seems a tad less controversial for them to finish the season in that way then it would be for the PL - mainly because there is likely a 6 point gap between the CL and EL places. In the PL it is potentially only a 2 point gap. Man Utd or Sheffield Utd just won't accept missing out on a lucrative CL spot based on such a narrow margin, especially given Chelsea haven't been in great form lately.

Can’t see why the players can’t shipped to China, and the season is finished over there. They pretty much have the thing under control.

China has a track record of lying about anything that makes them look bad.

It makes trusting any data coming out of the country difficult. They initially tried to cover up this outbreak. Bearing that in mind, expecting them to report factual case numbers/deaths/recovered might be naive of us. Best to treat them with a pinch of salt, I think.

Decisions starting to be made lower down the league system...

    http://nonleague.today/news/details.php?news_id=6613

The 2019/20 Season Officially Over for Step 5 & 6 Clubs
Following a meeting, via WebEx, today between all Step 5 & 6 chairman with the FA, the first clear decision has been agreed.

    The 2019/20 season has finished.
There will be no more games played as part of this season.
A full discussion took place about the ramifications of any decision on clubs hence the following:
The decision is awaited now as to how we will conclude the season in one of two methods.

    They are:

    1. To decide that the season is Null and Void, no promotions or relegations and the FA’s reorganisation of the leagues is put on hold for 12 months
    2. The season is decided by using the average points per game to agree promotions and relegations

Neither of the above can be agreed as the FA Leagues Committee need to await the decision of the Alliance Leagues above Steps 5 & 6 as their decision impacts either 1 or 2 above.
