Just an idea, rather (or in addition) to a Brazilian wonder kid that can take on 5 defenders and score from strange angles couldn’t we just sign someone who's main attribute is being in the right place at the right time to make a simple tap in

Spot on, aside from the fact he skies it instead of tapping it in.

Sounds excellent. Hopefully he can make a real conntribution rather than a sucessful 6m then a big move though our business model may demand the latter. Hopefully there are more to come from this source. How likely will it be that we can get a permit ?

Since the fee is pretty low it's very unlikely unless he starts getting called up to the Brazilian youth teams. There's the U17 World Cup in October which he might be eligible for, but I'm not convinced that'll be enough (unless he has a stormer of a tournament with Brazil winning and him winning the golden boot), but if he makes it to the U20 team, that should be enough to clinch the work permit.

Do you think? The rules are pretty tough - IIRC youth international appearances don't count, he's not been in continental competition and the low fee (and presumably wages) won't help either. I know we can go to a hearing but we did that with Penaranda the first time around and even a glowing endorsement from the England U20 head coach didn't move them. Taking things at face value I'd have thought JP will have to go out on loan.

They don't count officially as part of the criteria, but if it goes to a hearing they take those appearances into account which is how I believe we managed to get one for Richarlison (as playing for Brazil U20s is no mean feat as they don't have an U21 side so it's the last team before the seniors). That was Penarandas downfall (as Venezuela U20s is nothing to write home about), but the better the country the more likely it is.

Richarlison's fee was over £10m though wasn't it? This kid is less than £2m if the opening article on the thread is right.

Ok so it will be a while, if ever, before we see him play for the club. Shame.

This is the most recent info which pushes it close to the £10m mark (plus whatever stuff we've written off to Udinese etc, but now sure how that would be counted in the fee etc)

He is playing as starter today against Atletico Nacional of Colombia in the South American Cup. 10 minutes of the first half, 2 goals and 1 assist so far.

    OK, back home now.

He faded a bit in the second half which is understandable given that it was his first start. He did though execute a brilliant nutmeg in Atlético's area (not shown on the video) to set up what should have been Flu's fifth. He limped off in added time to a standing ovation.

So, to summarise, in the last three Flu games I've seen him play for a little over 120 minutes. He's scored just the six goals: three against Cruzeiro who have one of the best defences in Brazil and three against Atlético Nacional, not so long ago Copa Libertadores champions.

    Enjoy.

I love his third goal. It looks like he was deliberately trying to score with the back of his head and hit the post! Very quick reactions to get the rebound.

That kind of confidence and cool finishing is exactly what we were lacking at the end of the season.

    Thanks for the updates.

I love the fact he's kissing the badge despite already having been sold. Very impressive, love the finish for the second. When can we get a work permit?

I understand he always dreamed of playing for Watford while growing up in <insert random Brazilian city>.
