Watford have agreed a deal with Fluminense to sign 17-year-old João Pedro for €10m. The striker is set to join in January 2020.

    https://globoesporte.globo.com/fute...-pedro-para-o-watford-da-premier-league.ghtml

I like the way we are doing business with Fluminense. They have a long line of Brazilian talents which we seem to have an exclusive route into. We've created a good relationship with them and are a trusted source.

The way Brazil does business, well, it's not for everyone. Watford are getting these players as we are willing to take the risk. £10m is not a small investment and the player could be a flop. Lots of hoops to go through before we end up with another Richarlison.

Work permit, young player arriving at a new country which is completely alien to his own, he may not make the grade etc. There are a multitude of things that could go wrong with this type of deal.

However, Watford are willing to take the risk, where others are happy to standby and see if it works out. If he's the next Richarlison, we get a good year or so, then a big pay cheque at the end of it.

Watford are the middle man, introducing good players to the Premier league. I think this is the start of some seriously good young talent coming through our door.

    Unless I missed something, it's not €10m, it's R$10m I think. Which is about £1.8m.

It's going to be complicated...…..as always. Fluminense owe Udinese money from the Marquinho transfer, so the money from the Richarlison deal is going to be diverted to Udinese. It's part of the package.

Who knows what the final total will be, as it's said it's going to be kept confidential. However, it will leak out as there are too many loose lips involved.

This deal is a long way off though. January 2020!! So, another 15 months before we get to see him.

...or you could just admit that you misread the article and made a mistake.
    Much simpler.

But I agree, it is the sort of player we should be going for, we only need the odd one to succeed to make it worthwhile, particularly at 1.8m :D

Appears not dissimilar in style to Richie:

Strangely the video leaves most of his goals until the end, and finishes with him appearing to hit the bar with a penalty.

    Also, he's not 17 yet.

As per the article: "João Pedro will turn 17 on September 26."

I didn't misread it though. I cut and pasted the first line directly from the Twitter link WD18fans. Yet another that only wants to gloat if they spot a mistake, rather than want to just talk about the football story. A bit pathetic really, but then you've always been like this.

Ultimately though, the most interesting part of this news is to be found in the comments section of that article:

I will be preparing a kayak of toast asap, and will make sure to give all orange trees a wide berth.

I've talked about the football story as well. But it's always amusing to be accused of being pathetic by someone who behaves like a petulant hormonal 13 year-old boy (but then turns out to far in to middle-age).

I've never accused you of being this. You are a very good poster as far as I'm concerned. I think you've mixed me up with someone else.

I wasn't gloating about a mistake or attacking you. I was just pointing out a fundamental difference in the price you quoted and what the article actually says about the debt it's covering. You go on to mention £10m in your own commentary about it later in the same post and I thought it was a helpful correction. It definitely affects the 'football story'.

Absolutely. I took what you wrote in good faith and it was an important correction. I think you're a very good poster on these forums who contributes a lot of good stuff.

It was ZZtops comment. He is one of those posters that hold little grudges and can't wait to pounce, rather than contribute to a nice football story. There are about 4 or 5 other posters that do this on a regular basis and I'm going to call them out on it every time. The forum would be a lot better without them doing this type of thing as it always ends up the same way.

HB1. Take a breath mate. Don't take it so personally, ignore it, it really doesn't matter. ZZ's comment was semi -humorous. It's a useful thread with useful info, thanks for posting.

Yes.....I know. I cut and pasted the first line which had the Euro symbol from WD18fans, and I typed £ as the keyboard mapping on my laptop is set to UK and I couldn't be bothered to change it. These days € and £ mean the same thing anyway.

I'm going to post my tax returns on the forum. As any small mistake will be instantly highlighted. Saves me doing all the work. :D

Btw, €10m is being quoted all over Twitter now, so this is the figure that is being carried in reports.

I think the last penalty goes in. The quality is terrible but I'm pretty sure its into the roof of the net. Will be ready to take our penalties when Troy eventually retires.

Step one: Opens the thread and thinks we're signing Chelsea's Pedro*

Step two: Realises it's a young exciting Brazilian talent so that softens the blow

Step three: Looks for info on said young Brazilian talent

Step four: See HB1 in the middle of yet again another row this time over £ € (My Macbook keyboard does both rather easily)

    Step five: Exits thread

If it is €10 million it seems risky business to me. He may regress or get injured up to 2020. As HB1 points out there are risks of work permit, not settling in UK and not suiting premier league. If Richarlison sets the benchmark for success at 50 million bounty, I’d say given the various pitfalls it’s not a positive expected value transaction.

It does seem quite a cost but i do like the idea of investing in a few of the best young talents in Brazil and elsewhere in Sth America. It only takes one or two to come off to more than pay for itself. whether we will ever get to see them in a WFc shirt is of course another question !

Concerned we’re concluding business outside of the transfer window, but we all know how the Pozzo’s operate and I’m sure they’ve found a loophole to get him registered for Fulham on Saturday.
