We all know the reasons why we want to sign who we want to sign (new CB, proven striker etc etc) so I’m not looking for long winded reasoning. Just names... Maximum of 2 players as I really don’t think we’ll do more than that if we do anything at all. Who do you want us to buy? Who do you realistically think we will buy?
Mepham from Brentford or O'Connell of Sheffield Untied. That's if we go for a centre back. The thought being that Andy Scott knows both players capabilities. Alcacer. We can all hope. Garcia from Cadiz seems likely. Midfielder possibly if Doucs and Nate are not ready for the opener. So would love RLC but highly unlikely.
It’ll be a busy last day. We’ll miss out on a striker, centre back or defensive midfield cover, but buy a 15 year old keeper as Dahlberg’s long term replacement, a midfielder we loan to Udinese and 13 Ecuadorians that we immediately send to Rayo Vallecano ‘D’. We’ll also sign the Filipino boys who were stuck in a cave, but unfortunately they’ll find Watford too grim and demand to be sent home.
I think/hope we will end up with one of Origi/Batshuayi/Alcacer on a loan deal. The only possible one being a permanent deal I would say is Origi and that’s if we convince Liverpool to drop their ridiculous valuation of £26mil. I’m hoping we put a bid in around the £18mil and they accept. They need to sell him otherwise they will get nothing for him in 6months. The only concern is, that there are probably a host of clubs waiting to do the same to Liverpool on the last day. As for a CB, this has been a more pressing area for me than a ST as you all know. Unfortunately I’ve resigned myself to the reality that I just don’t see us signing one. This will come back to bite us.
Want; 1 goalscorer 1 CB Will get; 1 cheap winger from the Spanish or Italian lower leagues. 1 cheap RWB from the Spanish or Italian lower leagues.
I’ve resigned myself to another transfer window where a CB is something that the fans want far more than those running the club.
I genuinely think we wait until the music stops and everyone else has chosen their partners. We then attempt to hoover up the last few players still standing whose club's demands and personal demands will then be suitably lowered. We pick from what is left.
This nightclub sounds like it might be favoured by Udinese Reserves and have Marvin Zeegelaar stood outside begging the bouncers to let him back in at closing time?
Alcácer is a case in point. He doesn't want to join us. Barca want an immediate outright sale not a complex loan agreement. So he will only join us if no-one else bids, hence the long wait. I'm sure there will be other players unable to find bigger clubs / better packages who may end up signing for us.
I'm a bit annoyed that it's ending a 5pm. Wanted to watch the last few hours as it's usually quite entertaining.
I’m sure you’re right but as we all know, very few players dream of playing for Watford. It’s prospects of playing regularly, living near London, and the ability to play in the PL that attracts them. I don’t take it personally that Alcacér isn’t falling over himself to sign because frankly I don’t blame him. Any player of any real ability will be sensible to wait it out. I think the PL have been stupid to enforce this early transfer window when the other major league are weighing it up. It should have been a universal thing.
We sign someone exotic sounding that we never see We see Adam Leventhal on deadline day desperately trying to keep the drama going
Leventhal’s twice-yearly trip to London Colney is amongst the most pointless journeys in football. Watford Football Club don’t ‘do’ Deadline Day.
I can imagine every agent worth his salt is sending every single contact detail they have to every Chif Executive in the country ready for Deadline Day. Gino just needs the scrap bit of paper he keeps in his top drawer with the Belgian-Super-Agents mobile number on and his dad’s fax number over in Udine...
I hope we do get someone we can loan out immediately. It’s good to help other people and this is an opportunity.
