He's not a waster according to this thread:- http://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/saido-berahino.50675/ Note - that thread has it all. Hornet23 furiously masturbating over a **** player we were never going to sign. Arguments breaking out with Gareth from The Office used as an insult. WD Sport claiming a done deal, a suggestion we should be in for Juan Mata and because some guy called Roberto Pereyra was signing for Napoli from Juventus, we should sign some other guy called Gabbiadini.
Southampton is the better away day. But I think Swansea will get 4 more points and stay up and Arsenal will fail to win at Huddersfield
They offer nothing to the team. If Holebas is still here then the Pozzos would have failed in getting an even half-decent left sided defender/wing back.
I believe the plan will be to have Holebas as backup. Loan out or sell Zeegelaar and bring in a new first choice left back. There’s no way you can have Holebas as first choice for another season.
His attitude is gonna stink if he’s not getting in the team. And he seems to be quite liked strangely around the squad so that has potential to do more harm than anything. There was literally no need to hand him a new contract and it’s baffles me every time I think about it.
I agree with you. I can see absolutely no reason why the club extended his contract. But he's getting on a bit now, 34 in June. He'll have to settle as being a squad player at this stage in his career, it's a normal situation. I believe the transfer window opens on 17th May this year, so we wont have long to wait to see if we have anyone lined up.
I think it was a smart move if we are only confident of getting one quality LB. As you say, at 34 Holebas will basically have to accept being second to a new, top-class LB (fingers crossed on that...), and considering Zeegelaar is obviously a total write off in the eyes of the club it is better to have Holebas here and let him go for nothing if we get two LBs in. My guess is we will spend big money on three or four quality players, and not flood the squad with makeweights - at least that is what I read into SD's comments the other month on the squad. Kiko will become a winger, Janmaat the backup RB and we will get a starting RB and LB for big £££. The club would rather keep the devil they know who they can justify not starting than risk blowing another £2-5m and another three-year contract on Zeegelaar MKII. I would rather that the club only gets a handful of top quality players and we slowly phase the others out than try and buy a whole new team again and end up with a big pile of ****. We will already have to take a massive hit on Oulare, Amrabat, Zeegelaar, Dje Dje etc on top of other limp-****s like Suarez, Jurado etc we have already had to write off.
I really like the optimism. But I don’t share it sadly. This club has penny-pinched on the defence in recent seasons so I don’t see why they would change that now. Some will point to how bad we are at the back but I think that’s been the case for the last two seasons. I really hope I’m wrong but I don’t see the club spending big on FB’s.
I totally agree. We've tried to go cheap on many occasions. Sometimes it pays off, but quite a few times we've wasted good money. But I do sympathise with the club over this. We don't have a big budget and cannot afford to buy a Premier league side in season one. I think we are now at the stage, just before our fourth Premier league campaign, where we can really kick on. We have a two tier squad. By that I mean we have some excellent players already at the club, way above our natural stature, but we also have quite a few past their sell by date. A comment made by Mourinho this season, has stuck with me. He said something along the lines of "Watford are an unusual club as they have a lot of players you would not expect to find in a club of their stature.". I know exactly what he means by that. We can build our team around players like Doucoure, Chalobah, Hughes, Kiko, Pereyra, Kabasele, Cleverley, Deulofeu (hopefully), Richarlison. Ok, a couple of these players may go, but only for big money. Doucoure is at the point in his contract where we would probably have to sell in order to make money, but Richarlison is not, so we may well keep him for another season. I think all other players can be replaced for better, but we do need some strong squad players. I would put players like Cathcart, Capoue, Deeney, Gomes & Marriappa in that category. Of the rest, I don't have a problem with any of them going, but clearly it's more of a case of naturally phasing out. Britos would probably fall into that category.
Don't worry. He didn't know he'd joined us, there's no chance he knows the contract has now been extended....
Bad timing for West Brom and Darren Moore to win this... That is their chances of staying up gone! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44046843
Normally when teams get relegated there's one (or sometimes more) players you would covet for your own team but I can honestly say that , if Swansea were to go down , there's not one I would be happy signing . I'm sure some would say Mawson but very average and overrated cos he's English imho
Would prefer Southampton to go down along with WBA as Huddersfield and Swansea likely to be poor again next season and we seem to have simiiar transfer targets as Southampton so if they went down they would be less attractive as a club to go to
tell you what, anybody who thought we had anything to worry about was clearly barking mad. both of these teams are dreadful.
Swansea were truly awful when we played them at home but we still contrived to lose to a last minute goal. Kick started their revival and started our worry about looking at the bottom half of the table rather than looking up
very true. however by and large we are a better team at the moment than both of these. there was never any risk of us going down with these two in this form.
I actually think Swansea would be happier with a draw given the fixtures to come . Mind you can they score - even against relegated Stoke ?
I have been quietly impressed by mawson and austin today. mawson looks very composed on the ball and strong at the back, whilst austin has looked very competent in the lone striker role.
Hm.. that goal drags Huddersfield into it now . But if they get a draw in one of their next 2 games it's likely to be goodbye Swansea ?
saints just about deserve that. they have looked more dangerous for sure, just cant see Swansea scoring really.
Swansea going down with a whimper by the look of it. Maybe Michael Oliver will conjure some drama in injury time!
Austin missed 4 very good chances. Mawson is bang average, no better than what we already have (which isn't saying much). Shame Saints will stay up - I suspect they won't do any worse next season.
Southampton celebration suggest they might think the job is done .. Cannot see 9 goal swing for them and Swansea - Saints will play to keep the score down .
Thought Swansea would do better but they had enough matches to have got the points to be safe. They've been poor all season, had a mini revival and have collapsed at the worst time. Southampton will be stronger next season so bit annoyed Swansea barely put up a fight
Saints safe then, barring Man City putting 8 or 9 past them on the final day. Shame, as they're one of those teams who should only have a year like this one out of every few. Expect they'll be well clear of the relegation scrap next season.
On the bright side you have to fancy Huddersfield and Cardiff to take two of the relegation spots next year.
Must be favourites to go now with Swansea home to stoke. **** **** **** really wanted soton to go down.
