Watford have posted a 'Return of the Mapps' video on twitter - they played Return of the Mac at half time during the Gillingham game - a little in joke?
Decent back up signing, especially being ex-Watford and homegrown. Three year deal seems a little excessive though.
If he's happy to be backup, free, doesn't take a rare as rocking horse non HG spot, what could be wrong with that Doubt he's going to play very often unless Prodl and Cathcart are called up for the ACON
All this extra cash the club has and the best pun the club can come up from the press office with is Return of The Map.
Having players with experience who are willing to be backups is a good thing. Let's the younglings go out on loan. The fact that he's homegrown is nothing but good.
Really happy about this. I'm not bothered whether a signing is British or not, but it is nice to have a Brit join and a popular old face. Can only be a good thing for leadership in the squad and the dressing room. Well played.
Surprised Palace did not want to keep him in their squad, their loss is our gain IMHO. I expect it was the three year deal that sweetened it for us, as i expect he had offers from many other clubs.
Whilst he's a solid enough signing as a squad/backup player, its very underwhelming and I'd have much rather have kept Hoban in and around the squad and further what we already had with him. Yes there is an argument for him going out and playing regularly at his age, but theres also an argument that he may develop quicker training with our defenders than going to Blackburn and getting thumped every week as they are currently. This signing really doesn't make much sense to me. I expected Pereyra to be a beacon of the calibre of signings to come, but that sign is diminishing very quickly.
This is a decent signing, always liked Mariappa. He's backup to the first team and will likely play a lot for the U23s Welcome Home Adrian!!
Is that what I said? I said its underwhelming and doesn't make sense to me in the circumstances. I just think our sights should be set a bit higher.
That would have been ideal if Hoban had actually played much in the last few years. He has missed 2 seasons of his career at the age of 22, he needs games to progress, no amount of training replicates first team football at a pretty high level.
Ithink this is a very sensible move by Gino an old favourite, still in his prime ,excellent cover or squad player home grown and on a free ! Got prem experience and is on a free ,all good in my book ,Okaka for the money we paid for him I think may prove to be a shrewd move as well ,once he is fit and up to speed .
He's homegrown, versatile, knows the club inside out, is a leader, has a lot of Premier League experience and presumably won't be unhappy being backup. What's not to like? Not every player we bring in can or should be a huge, expensive glamour signing.
according to reports he nearly signed for Rangers a couple of weeks ago, he must have had an inkling this was in the pipeline and waited his time whilst his agent sorted out the details!
There was plenty of moaning when Cathcart came on a free. He's shoved that down most people's throats. Mapps is an excellent addition who can play numerous positions. Welcome home.
I personally think that is why he's been signed, because if we need to switch to 4 3 3 we don't have an decent out an out FBs.
Great transfer, cheap, versatile, homegrown. Not sure what people are moaning about on the first page. Not going to start every game but a very useful addition. Welcome home.
