Odion Ighalo has signed a permanent deal with Watford. Deal runs until summer 2017. http://www.watfordfc.com/news/article/141024-odion-ighalo-watford-fc-permanent-transfer-2037957.aspx
Surprised we haven't given it a full season before making this permanent: the jury's still out for me despite an improved performance in the last couple of games. Still, I'll give him my backing.
He's only started 4 games and the improvement already has been excellent, not to mention his 3 goals - great news.
Fantastic news. Really finding his feet now and is getting stuck in more often. Good link up play, good with the ball at his feet and has started scoring, can't ask for more. AND HE'S BEEN GIVEN TO US FOR FREE!!!! :jumping1::jumping1::jumping1:
It will be to keep the number of loanees in the match day squad to 5 now that Andrews is fit again. Won't have cost the club any money so nothing to lose by making it permanent.
Loan or Perm it doesn't make any difference to us, he can still be shifted easily back to Granada if it doesn't work out. It does mean free's up another loan spot for us though which Pozzo's might wanna use in Jan and frankly I think he deserves the deal, worked hard, got goals and showing real improvement.
We'll be carrying Prince Odion on our shoulders around the town hall come May. 35 goals this season I reckon.
How do we get way with it every time :sign13: player cancels contract with Udinese and Watford signs them.. a free transfer outside a transfer window arty2:
We've not broken any rules, or been clever here. He won't be officially permanent until the January transfer window opens, so for now, he will be still considered a loan player.
Don't think so, why have the club announced his permanent signing was completed today then? We've done it so Andrews can be in the squad as well.
With signing officially annouced on WFC site? I think it's exactly as La Tempesta said. Agreement with player on terms -> loan to WFC rescinded by mutual consent between Udinese and Watford -> contract with Udinese rescinded by mutual consent between player and Udinese -> Ighalo is a free agent -> Ighalo signs for Watford. All in one hour probably. Transfer window? What is a transfer window? :sign13:
We also announced summer signings well before the transfer window opened. Players like Dyer and Gomes were announced before the window. Watford announce deals well in advance these days.
I think you're wrong on this one Sherlock. Clubs are allowed to sign 'unemployed players' outside of a transfer window. The Football League defines an unemployed player as: Ighalo was registered with Udinese (and I actually think Watford too because he's an international loan) so can't be considered unemployed even if his contract was recinded with Udinese. I'm sure it's simply a deal that's been done with a view to finalising it in January.
Sorry for being too precise, but rules should be quoted correctly: 41.6.3 ‘Unemployed Player’ shall mean any Player who: (a) has not at any time been registered with: (i) a Member Club; (ii) a club that is participating in The Football Conference (National Division) or The Premier League; and/or (iii) any other association football club in a country other than England, or (b) if he has been registered with any of the clubs listed in paragraph (a) above, his registration has expired or was cancelled at any time prior to the end of a Transfer Window and he has not since been registered with any such club. Otherwise, how could WFC have signed Riera last season in March? He was registered with Galatasaray but had his contract rescinded.
So hypothetical scenario... Ighalo decks Gino and Gino sacks him, rescinds the contract and shows him the door. Can the football league prevent Ighalo seeking employment with another club? Doesn't that breach EU freedom of movement and employment laws?
No worries Sherlock. Part (b) was not relevant to Ighalo or your suggested scenario as his registration wouldn't have been cancelled 'prior to the end of the Transfer Window'. It means if a player is released by his club during a transfer window he can still sign for a club outside of a transfer window. I understand Riera was released from Galatasary in January so free to sign for other clubs outside of the window. Fair play for holding your own in a debate about Football League regulations in a foreign langauge. I couldn't do the same with Serie A!
Wobbly article does seem to imply it is permanent now, or at least he is no longer counted as a loan player.
UEA your normally right on anything legal so i hope there is something we didn't know (e.g that it was already permanent and they just hadn't told us!)
I was just being flippant Aber. I'm sure they have a plan. I think the most likely is that he's agreed to sign permanently in January. Unless there's a loophole of course.
I haven't been that impressed with him so far, his finishing isn't good, and when he stepped up to take "that" pen, I really expected it to be saved. All that said, When Danny Graham, and Troy Deeney arrived here, I wasn't initially impressed by their first season, very few players actually hit the ground running, so I'm more than happy to sit back and give the lad time to establish himself and see what sort of player he can become. So welcome here permanantly Odion, now push on and help fire us onward and upwards.
With Ighalo hitting form just as Slav has arrived it means Troy is going to have to impress him to show that he should be starting every week. Good news for us obviously.
