According to SSN today Tottenham, Fulham and West Ham are all tracking him. http://www1.skysports.com/football/teams/watford
Tottenham are being linked with everyone with the proviso Bale gets sold. Fulham are about to sign Bent on loan or a permanent so won't need another striker. West Ham......more of a sideways move than a move up. He'll be staying.
As much as it pains me to say it, I think West Ham might do well this year, as they have spent well and already brought in some good players.
No way is he high profile enough for Sours. Fans wouldn't be happy selling bale and getting him as a replacement. Spam however go through forwards like Malcolm Tucker goes through swear words so that is feasible
It's only interest. I think it is fair to say that the Pozzos are going all out for promotion, Angella, Fabbrini etc. Unless it's a silly amount of money or they have someone better lined up I can't see it happening.
Deeney is more important than just goals - yes - we could perhaps replace his goals but he is currently in the form of his life - everything he touches seems to be going in. I feel that if we lost it would be a huge loss and would significantly affect our season.
Zola has said in the Watford Observer this morning that no bids have come in but the club would have to consider any bid that does come in. Still, he won't be leaving.
Just got back from the game (banned from air travel) and I have to say I was a bit disappointed with Deeney, he never really got into the game. Neither did most of our team though and Palace just about deserved their victory. Despite this I'm still hopeful he can do a job for us in the new season. I did hear one rumour on the journey home however about a potential swap deal with Spurs for Bale plus £8M. It's been all over the Turkmenistani media apparently. Will keep you posted.
When Deeney 1st came to Watford, I christened him "Nearly". He put in a lot of effort and nearly scored, or nearly controlled the ball. It became a big joke in our group. But since Sordell left, Deeney has been a different player and we haven't used his nick name for a long time now. I think he is quite bright and appreciates what Watford has done for him and he also sees how Vydra has conducted himself. I think he will stay this season, unless a stupid offer comes in that the Pozzo's can't refuse, which is unlikely. Then he can choose us next season when we are in the Premiership.
Can't argue that Deeney would be great backup for Carroll. That will be the issue though...'backup'. He's not going to start for any Premier League teams that can afford him. Why leave what could be a landmark season for the club who've given you everything to sit on a bench. Won't happen. If Deeney does push for a move, you'd really question his judgement.
If he stays with Watford, with a system built around him, he'd have a good chance of establishing himself as a Prem striker if we go up. If he leaves, he may take time to fit in, as he did when he came to Watford, and he may never get a run of games. Moving would be a big risk in my opinion.
Let's face it, realistically the 3 teams that Deeney could start for in the PL would be the 3 that have gone up. They've all signed strikers already. I'm not sure Deeney would like the back up role as he loves to play and score.
I don't see Deeney being a starter for any of them teams. They have all already got in new strikers over the summer, except Villa - who managed to keep Benteke.
Not had any bids for Deeney. http://www1.skysports.com/football/...=Feed:+WatfordFC+(Watford+FC+...+Latest+News)
Not in the slightest surprised to hear that. Just the horrendous hyperbole of grub street, hoping that something they write may spur interest in the player and create a story from nothing. I guess it kind of works. Shows you how the press see the difference between Matty and Troy, when they did the same thing for our Czech dissident they trawled out Spurs went up to Arsenal, but for Troy they start with Spurs and work their way downwards. None of the reports ever mentioned an actual interest to my memory, merely saying something along the lines of 'Will be looking for a striker, and (insert on fire Horn here) would fit the bill'. Big load of Bollo but at least it livened up the conversation for a while, good chance to chat about Troy's value to the club, and to see how we rate him as fans (not always highly it seems at times based on price estimates). If he can play like this in Premiership, big if, his price would be off the scale and he would be an England player. I look forward to seeing if he can, but not this season I think.
Deeneys last game for us today? Ill be looking extra carefully to see if he claps the away end longer than usual today.
This would make sense. I've heard it is likely to be any day this week aside from thursday. So must be Today, Tuesday or Wednesday. It may also be in the Wobby on Friday.
If he does I think our promotion hopes will take a massive blow as we don't have anyone that is similar on the pitch or who is a leader figure off the pitch, which means we would need to get someone in & very rarely do they hit the ground running or always suceed, look at Charlie Austin at QPR ? Will be very interesting how they replace him should he leave
He looked really pissed off with us at Reading, late into the second half, Doyley had the ball just outside the box, and the crowd shouted "SHOOT" ...doyley responded with a shocking shot which went miles wide, left of goal and into the stand.. after the shot, Deeney turned around to us all with his hands out, shoulders raised, saying for **** sake... he looked well p*ssed off with the crowd for shouting Shoot. ...if Doyley had passed it forward, Deeney could have been through on goal.. and we might have had all 3 points at the weekend... hope he stays but I don't think he was all that impressed with the crowd making a joke and putting Doyley under pressure to shoot, it was a massive wasted chance.
I shouted Shoooooot, like many others, if Deeney doesn't like it he can stick it in his pipe and chough away at it. Not saying he/you don't have a point, but why not have a dig? He was in space and a good position - many other players would have done the same, and it seems that GFZ is encouraging it when the opportunity arises - if the problem is that Sir Lloyd had the shot, it is only because he missed it. If it had gone in, he would have been given the freedom of this fair town, and I don't mind throwing away a reasonable chance to see something that would have been the toast of the season. Apart from that, I don't remember the shot being as bad as you said, and I'd say it was no worse an attempt on goal than some of our players that are expected to score from such chances have made. What if he had played the ball forward and Deeney had been as effective in free play as he had been for the rest of the game? Maybe we'd be on here now saying Lloyd should have had a shot? Deeney was having a very animated go at Alumunia and Angella at one point too, don't know what that was about; maybe they had lost us the game too. Cassetti was having a go at the whole team against Bournemouth for the lack of movement up front when he was looking to make a pass. Perhaps it was because they had lost us the game? I happens in football. Massively wasted chances happen to all players at some point too, even Deeney. This is Watford, this is the way we are, and any player that doesn't like it can politely f><k off. Personally I doubt Deeney has lost any sleep over it, and I think he's quite happy here for now.
