Seems to me that many on here - who have moaned for years about our lack of quality players and "hoof it" football are now complaining that we are ditching this in favour of a more cultured approach with much better quality players!! Or am I missing something?

This is a fair summary. Oh, and we're unhappy that these players are only signing on loan and we can't grasp the fact that they'll be Watford players for as long as they are useful.

    The pessimism is just mental.

Look at the #watfordfc twitter feed, I mean our fans are actually total idiots.

    1) These ****** are saying that the amount of loans we have now has proved we are indeed a feeder club, and that the downgrading of the academy status is confirmation of such a fact. I can't believe some of these people actually are missing the point that, the root of the role of being a feeder club, is 'feeding' another club, I'm pretty sure we haven't sold anyone to Udinese, nor have intention of doing so. Another role of a feeder club is to produce youngsters which then move on to the parent club for pretty small fees, such as Beveren, in downgrading academy status, I again hate to point out to these ******s that we are even less likely of becoming a feeder club. There is no correlation between receiving loans, and being a feeder club.

    2) Half of our twitter feed is made up of *******s claiming that they can't believe we have signed another Udinese reject, that they couldn't shift, so have loaned to us. I mean seriously, how stupid are these people? Cassetti has no affiliation to Udinese whatsoever, Zola targeted him and deemed him a player he would like to sign, we in fact used the Udinese link up to provide a more efficient financial model for doing so. He is a 'loan' only in contract, and he is only an 'Udinese player' in name.

    3) People already writing off Cassetti, you'd think the same fans excited at the prospect of James Meredith would have some time for Marco Cassetti, but apparently not. He is probably the best right back in this division, don't let his age put you off, he is a brilliant footballer and any club in this division would have taken him. He has played numerous games for Italy and Roma, but we're saying he's not good enough for Watford? Seriously?

Anyone complaining about the loans in general bemuses me, we're getting good footballers, cheap, with no long term commitment on our part. Did anyone really think the Pozzo's would come in and spend millions whilst we're still in the Championship? That would be awful, awful business, and not something they have done at Granada. The money gets spent when we're making it.

Just some of my favourite tweets.. *The list of shame*

    Chris Fid ‏@Cmjf
so we sign another loan player Udinese cos we`re not now their feeder club......... #watfordfc

    Chris Dundon ‏@Chriz_
Think #Cassetti signed for #Udinese before joining #Watfordfc on loan cos we still have an embargo maybe? No fees for any new players yet.

Although don't get me wrong, those complaining we will have no players this time next season are making me laugh too. This and the guy saying how screwed we are when Pozzo recalls all the good ones mid season.

I agree with pretty much everything you've said, 5 minutes research answers 90% of their doubts.

On a slightly different note, do you know the reasoning behind the academy downgrade, purely money saving?

I agree Kane, twitter really gives a voice for the empy headed, but it's out there now, so very little you can do about it.

I think fans with a brain cell count of more than one, will realise we are stocking up on many players so that we can play in the manner Zola would like. These are players that have played their careers at a higher level and are used to a more technical way of playing.

Of course there will be as period of readjustment and integration, but I think in a couple of months these 9/10 new signings will ALL be in the match day squad. Very few from our original squad will survive, but if they are good enough they will be retained. It's up to them to grasp the opportunity as I think Zola is giving most players a fair crack of the whip.

Wel said YK. I get a little bit annoyed by some the comments that are made about how we are doing these days but these actually made me laugh out loud. My favourite is the first one. We are the feeder club yet they're giving us the players!!! We must be the worst feeder club ever. Six in and none out!!! I get the feeling they may not be very old

I find quite funny the worrying about these "mediterranean" players and winter weather.
If this would be an issue, no brasilian of african player should have ever played in Europe, except in Greece or Turkey.
I think I remember one "obscure" player named Eto'o who played quite well in the notoriously "mild weather" Milan. ;)
Oh, yes, but he was tired of the cold so he now plays ... in Russian championship. :whoosh: Where notoriously only foreign players of pure Inuit blood are hired as they are the only ones who can cope with russian Winter. :naughty:

you are right i feel the same too are we selling the soul of the club for glory but then the other half of me thinks i want to see the best players here i want us to be in the prem...so i`m going to give it a few season`s and see if the club can get the balance right.
i think there will be more loans coming may not in the summer but can Jan if we are near the top 6 or up there i think the Pozzo`s will push the boat out..i think we the money they have spent out they need the prem this season

This is understandable but, I'm afraid, quite unrealistic. In current football I seriously doubt there are many clubs in Europe playing in their major league staying a "local club rooted in local community". The only exception being probably the Athletic Bilbao, but in that case it's something rooted in strong Basque patriotism.
If a team wants to play at the top, his fans must realize at most a few of the players will be local youngs, among a wide "foreign legion" of players from all around the world.

I think these people who are of very limited intelligence and ought to be living in Luton, think we will be promoted this season.

This is a long term project. Who knows what the outcome maybe ? However they do not seem to realize we might not be in existence had Lord High Emperor Bassini still been around. The Pozzo model has been shown to be a sucess.

Personally I would like to see a core of Watford grown players but at no stage has the club said they are ditching this. If we do get promotion to the PL (and that may take 2-3 seasons) then the club can reapply for upgraded status with the funds necessary to maintain the academy at a higher level than it is now.

People nowadays have no patience and has been shown by the examinations being made just a teeny weeny little harder , generally pretty dumb and that includes the area of football.

Lets be honest..I'd rather save money and get in some short term loans of quality than spend more money on futher journeymen from these leagues who add nothing to the team.

I think some say there is a lack of identity but then they were complaining about that last season when we signed the likes of Yeates and Garner.

Gone are the days of having loads of local lads in the side...

Re the criticism on Twitter today of this signing..

In the last 2 months, WFC has changed dramatically, possibly the biggest period of change condensed into such a short time that most of us have ever seen as supporters. New owners, new people in day to day charge, new manager and coaching staff and now a totally new way of doing our transfers. A new way in fact compared, not just to our past, but to every other club in the league. It's natural there will be some supporters who find it all too much, who cannot appreciate the way our club is evolving and moving forward. Everybody in life reacts differently to change, some are scared of it, others embrace it.

My own opinion, for what its worth, is I'm very excited by it all. How spoilt have some supporters become that they can complain about our beloved club signing an ex Italian international defender who just 2 seasons ago played every match for his club in the Champions League? And who comes with such a ringing endorsement about his professionalism. Hello?!! Have they forgotten that, over the last few seasons when we've been limited to buying domestically, some of the journeymen we ended up with? The very same players, incidentally, that most of them are now complaining about for being in Zola's side.

Have they also forgotten that last season we had 7 loanee signings too (though admitedly not all at the same time). Which would they prefer..Vydra for the seaqson or Trotta who came and went within a fortnight.

As for Watford youth not being given a chance..well hello but hasn't Connor Smith broken into the first team this season?

As for moans about our style of play..you only had to watch Gary Neville's excellent analysis of the Premier League on Sky on Monday night to see how football has evolved over the last 2 or 3 seasons. Passing completition rates have increased in the last 3 years. Statistically more and more teams are scoring goals, not so much by crosses and big number 9s heading goals, but by clever, intricate play through the centre. You simply cannot play a more direct style to get promotion and change your system of play once promoted, ready to compete in the Premier League. Now is the time to start changing, to start honing new systems and new ways of attacking, so you're ready as and when the PL should arrive.

We are all as fans out of our comfort zone right now. Gone are the comforting, mid table days of Mackay and Dyche..the days of signing a £100,000 player from LeagueTwo, the days of hit it long and the days of winning matches through outmuscling our opponents. Those days have gone because of circumstances. We're now aiming higher and in a way totally different from anything we've ever seen before or any other team in our division. Those critics on Twitter should do their damndest to embrace it..because its happening with or without them. There will be highs (Palace) and lows (Ipswich) along the way..and ofc it may not work. But how exciting to be trying something new, to be aiming so much higher than we've aimed over the past few years and to be going about it in a way that should win us many friends along the way.

    Welcome to WFC Marco.
