I think you'll be able to hear a huge sigh of relief from Watford when this goes through!!

Looking forward to us 'officially' being part of the pozzo family!

I have never really had an opinion on Bassini , but from the minute he said he was waiting for proof they had the money` like some sort of ebay deal , earlier in the week and then his statement yesterday , well , lets just say you can tell the difference between real deal businessmen and those that play at it, and the clubs statement , although a little non corporate , is designed to slap him down

I think we were right not to be too alarmed or worried last night. It was significant too that the WO headlined the story as 'Bassini claims takeover is off' rather than straightforwardly saying it IS off.

Whatever good things Bas may have done in his stint as owner..and that'll be debated until the cows come home, he remains a man who threatened to quit after GT's comments following his no show at the Fans Forum, only to back down 48 hours later. He said he had no contact with the Pozzos when obviously this has been in the pipeline for 3 months. He said he wouldn't sell the club only to do a total U turn 24 hours later, siting family reasons. He then told us a deal was done, only for the Pozzos to remind everybody negotiations were far from complete. And then to cap it all, yestersay evening he tells the local paper it's off..only to be over-riden an hour later.

The word consistent can surely not be applied to either him or his public statements.

Until the deal is signed I really do't know what to believe.
Have the Pozzo's responed to anything Bas said yesterday?

The Pozzo's seem to keep a sensible silence when dealing with business matters.

Obviously if they do end up owning the club a lot of supporters here will ask for more transparency and accuse them of hiding stuff. Good luck Pozzo's!

Yes, the official statement reading it seems to be a very joint statement. And the fact they've said it should be completed 'shortly' is further proof Bassini is trying everything he can to prevent it!

no, he is not used to reply to this kind of polemic, unless he doesn't care any more. In these cases, especially if he is interested in the matter, his reply is "no reply".
This silence normally means he's still working behind the scenes. That's why I said that his silence is a positive sign.
Of course we can crow over a victory yet, we have to wait for that, but the going on of the deal should give us some optimism

I said nothing. I would never publicly discuss this thing of ours and disrespect those vows I have taken.

Spot on with all this. One thing you can say for Bas's tenure, he has been consistent with his inconsistencies. I don't really recall seeing or hearing about any owner communicating with the fans and talking about his business dealings, in such a public manner, particularly when deals have not yet been completed.

I was one of those who was not enthused by him taking over the club from day one and said so on here (and got some criticism for it from one or two). I had heard enough to have had my doubts & sadly, these have proven to be accurate. I doubt we will ever know the full details, but I would love to hear the details of what has actually transpired behind the scenes, to reach the position we are in today. Its farcical enough as it is, but I would bet the reality of the situation is probably an awful lot worse & more farcical. I am imagining something along the lines of the QPR film recently x 5!

I'm neutral on the Pozzo's for now. Once we hear their actual plans and the changes they wish to implement, I will form more of an opinion. At this juncture though, I cannot imagine it being any worse than the current tenure, but who knows? If someone like GT was to come out in more vocal support of the move, would give me more confidence. As I always suspected and again, he was criticised for some on here at the time, his comments at the Fans Forum, appear to have been a more accurate reflection on things.

One thing I would be interested in though. If the 'transfer account' has indeed been kept seperate and available to the club as part of the 'transfer of ownership' and has only been used for player transactions and not meeting things like bond repayments, pitch relaying, the pub etc surely there should be a surplus of several million in there, for the club to use. Monies from Graham, Young, Sordell of the top of my head alone, would have brought in about £6.5m, and we have only spent about £1m of that I would have thought. Hope this is right but would probably expect this not to be the case, after all.

I hope they can get into London Colney then.

Wasn't it only a few years back there was a lockout temporarily as we hadn't paid the rent to the UCL? Which I was once told is about £500000 a year?

I don't why it keeps coming back round to GT. He's left the club and frankly his opinion on what is happening with the deal is now none of his business.

He is a fan and still takes an interest in the club. Being a fan of the club, makes his opinion as much of his business as the rest of us!!!

He is also still a honoury life president. Surely that position entitles GT to express his opinion on the club.

I would imagine that GT knew he had commitments for the Euros and knew he wouldn't be around when this was all going down. So he removed himself from the equation as opposed to fans saying he didn't care as he was too busy commentating.

I don't think anyone is saying he shouldn't have an opinion but rather so much importance being placed upon them is the bugbear.

Yes I am. I would rather anyone who isn't involved in negotiations doesn't starts make comments or give their opinion on a situation they don't know 100% about.

But someone with that sort of influance is best off not making statements on something he's not invovled with.

    Very, very quiet today.

Wobby not saying a word, Italian Press not saying a word, the official website not saying a word, and perhaps even stranger, Bassini not saying a word!

    I JUST WANT AN ANNOUNCEMENT!!

Yes, but we are talking about millions of pounds here, and an absolutely massive deal here for the Pozzo's and Baz.

I know for a fact that if I were Baz or the Pozzo's, I wouldn't just say come Friday 5 o'clock, "Well guys, I think we'll leave it here and resume on Monday." There is a lot at stake here. The sooner Baz sells up, the sooner he can pocket his millions and relax, and the sooner the Pozzo's take control, then then sooner this charade will end and they can start reorganising the club their own way.

As I say, if I were either, waiting until Monday morning would be the last thing on my mind. Sort the deal out, sign the papers, THEN go home and chill out.

Yeah this sort of thing doesn't just stop because of the weekend..although it's the sort of idiocy Baz would probably suggest.
