What do you not get? I'd agree if we got relegated and he said I'm not going anymore because I refuse to watch such a poor standard of football. But if you aren't enjoying yourself at football anymore why keep going? If he has been going since 1977 I think he has every right to say 'I've done my bit for the club, time to let the younger lads take my place.'

No there isn't, and if there is you just made it up.

He doesn't have to explain himself to you.

  4. J.B

    J.B First Team

FromDiv4 said that he doesn't want to go anymore due to 'decline in performances' and the QPR fans being in the Watford end.

Those reasons are feeble at best.

  5. J.B

    J.B First Team

Never said he did; i'm just offering my honest opinion just like you are.

If he didn't want opinions then why did he post this thread on a forum?

Also there is a difference to being a supporter and a fan. Supporters go to games and support the team vocally and financially, fans follow the team. That's not a swipe anyone that's just a fact.

No, you are judging the support of somebody who has been going to Watford for longer than you have been alive.

Its a bit rich to be honest.

I'm just giving my honest opinion. If you, him or anyone else on here can't deal with that then it's not my problem.

JB, I understand your point of difference between a supporter and a fan. Supporting Watford is one of many things that I do in life and you always have to balance off what you can do in the time available to make the most of your life. As I feel at the moment there are other things I should be doing than spending time and money going to Watford as it is not giving me the level of pleasure I have previously experienced.

it's always going to be an age thing. if i had my choice of eras it would be when mike keen was in charge. i trailed all over the div 4 sh!tholes support watford, watching workhorses like bobby downes and john williams. the p!ss used to cascade down the vic end terraces when the toilets (regularly) blocked up and the programmes were wonderfully amateur but collectible.

todays yoof will look back on the malky mackay times as their favourite era.

i, like fromdiv4, will not be renewing through a combination of circumstances, finances and a lack of enthusiasm. how premiership fans struggling to get by can bring themselves to support foreign millionnaires who clearly don't give a sh!t is beyond me.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts.

I have no interest in the premier except for when a big spending team mucks up against an underdog and I couldn't care who wins the champions league; the football is so far removed from the game I love. The money that is sloshing around to the top few clubs and people outside of the game is like a cancer.

I've renewed my season ticket, last season was one of the best for a long time and we should continue to do it with our own players.

The thing is its no coincidence that football is the best and most watched sport in the world. It was made that way by us, the fans. Today it has been stolen from us by a mafia. Did any fans vote for Sepp Blatter or Richard Scudamore? Were fans asked whether they thought it was right to take THEIR World Cup away from them to a country that isn't the slightest bit interested in football?

Today when I turn up I don't know whether I am supporting my club, which normally does things the right way, or this mafia. From FIFA at the top down to the Championship steward who thinks wouldn't it be a laugh to throw a few young lads out today, football is totally corrupt. In these circumstances, I find it harder and harder to care what the results are on the pitch.

The media has created the most damage along with most club's policy of ensuring players say the right thing when being interviewed.

Sure, we all feel out of touch and lost.. the magic has been dying for a long time and sure, football is 100% business driven BUT

Is it really time to throw in the towel?

I havent visited the Vic once this season, the first time in 20 years though did get to three away games. That said, I religiously listened to almost EVERY game via 3cr whether I was in the gym, sat in the car, online... whatever.

What we might be forgetting is that since relegation it's been a CONSTANT stream of bad news and dissappointment but I sense there could be a light around the corner....... surely there are others that sense this too?

2011-2012 Promotion to the Prem anyone? I'll be sticking a tenner on it :)

I would happily live through GT's first era over and over again, when it was possible to be proud of Watford both on and off the field.

The Malky era stands comparison with most, however, and I'm not about to miss out on it.

Think this is a good post. For people of younger generations (like me), we don't really know anything else besides the "Sky era". We hear the rose tinted view of how things used to be back in the day, but we don't know how it really was. Though we'll probably be saying the exact same thing in 20 years.

Personally, i've found myself becoming disillusioned with football (World Cup to Qatar, FIFA, Oil money etc) and the end of the Boothroyd era really killed a lot of the joy i found in going to Watford games. It was rubbish watching a bunch of mercenaries with no desire or passion for the club. For me, it felt like we had no heroes and no affiliation with the players. Most of them wore the shirt for nothing but money, results were irrelevant. Thankfully the club seems to have rekindled it's spirit a little bit with the number of home-grown players coming through and assuming the club survives as it is, i'd rather support this Watford than the Premier League WFC.

As a side note, i've really enjoyed supporting my local MLS side, Houston Dynamo and have found the MLS to be a real breath of fresh air. Match day is a lot more fun than a trip to Vicarage Road in terms of atmosphere, value and the way fans are treated i.e. supporters groups actively encouraged and accommodated by the clubs. There are plenty of guys playing out there who could earn more money (partly down to the salary cap) from their college degrees than they could playing top flight soccer, but they do it for a love of the game. I'll earn more as a Junior High teacher than a number of the Dynamo squad. Most of the players here (at Houston anyway, might be different elsewhere) aren't detached from the real world and seem genuinely appreciative of the support they receive. It's easier to support a team of guys who show a bit of humility, which i guess is a part of LBH's argument for non-league football.

I completely lost hope and interest towards the end of last season, didn't renew my season ticket only for the other half to get me it as a birthday present, and I am so glad she did! I played football to a pretty decent standard but gave up 5 years ago when my knees couldn't take it and I got fed up of travelling around the south Midlands and into London each week. I had about 6 months of doing nothing on a Saturday so starting going to more Watford games again like I did as a kid and enjoyed a promotion to the Premiershit, a boring year that certainly was under they style of play and the total commercialise that these-called top league brings.

The next season brought a great start until we were found out (I didn't boo though of course!) and we have stood good ground in the Champ since. Sometimes there are great games, more often not but it gets me out of the house and away from shopping centres or sitting on my backside watching Phil Thompson cream his pants over a Liverpool near miss. I am sure when kids come along I will stop going for a bit but I will definitely take them along when they get older like my dad did to me and his to him etc.

I am content to watch us at this standard of football, the Premier league does not interest me. I am sure there are less interesting teams than Watford with all the money talk and that all the times and I really wouldn't be bothered if we got relegated and went into Administration, I would still go along as it is a day out, meeting mates, having a drink and that. I think I get excited more by Watford bringing through another local youngster into the team than a win a lot of the times!

Being down in the South West for so much of the year this year, has meant I have only been able to attend about 6/7 games on my season ticket. If anything, not being able to see as many games has only served to increase my enthusiasm to go and see a game when I can. I'll be renewing next season, even though the situation will probably be the same again - it's still money going to the club I love.

As a result, the Saturday afternoons and Tuesday evenings of sitting here following what I can on the shoutbox as there's no other way of keeping in touch with the game - aside from HornetsPlayer - which I don't have...

I love the game, whether it be playing or watching, and so I don't forsee myself losing interest any time soon. The debates of why I support such a team as Watford can get a little tiresome and wear thin, but you always feel like you've won them - the high's and lows can bring about a real buzz - going from winning 7 games on the bounce, to not winning in the next 5. It's not the same as supporting a top 4 premiership club, or a club which classifies a top 17 finish as a good season.

One thing I would stress before you give up your season ticket - in rather similar vein to LBH's comments... Just think how seriously you're going miss it, and don't do something you'll regret in not getting one. I still have one, but it sure as hell annoys me that I can't see more games than I do.

...Especially as Watford won't be playing in Exeter or nearby Plymouth next year.

I hardly go at all now,reasons..Cost of tickets, travelling, petrol, listen to live com on the radio, but I just don't have the get up and go for it anymore.I have become so bored of it all that I have even cut off sky sports.Seen the highs and lows since 1977,most of them highs, but other things become more important than 90mins that would cost me around £80 a game to attend.

Maybe if football was like it was back in the late 70's and 80's before the prem ruined it all then I maybe tempted back..Still love and will always support the club.

There have been more than one occasion this season (and it only started this season) when I've just though "What am I doing here? ... " and the way we fell away at the end didn't help.

I have renewed, mainly because I like the people I sit with, and hope that by Aug my interest is as it used to be.

I am fed up with us not having a pot to pi$$ in, worrying about losing better players and Malkey, and having a ground that should have been finished years ago. Even the style of football hasn't really improved as we are still too direct.

I find myself going to Tring more and more now. Granted the standard can be poor but it's 3 quid to get in (with membership), I can enjoy a pint whilst watching the game and I earn more money than a lot of the players.

I will never stop being a fan of Watford but the day I stop dedicating so much time and money to them feels as though it's getting closer and closer.

Three quid is a bargain, it is eight quid to get into Leighton Town! I am lucky that Aylesbury ground share with Leighton which means through the season there is a game on pretty much every Saturday and every Tuesday, and I live very close to the ground so I can always see if there is a game on and walk round two minutes before KO.

I increasingly go for the day out rather than the football now.

In fact for most games I watch now i would struggle to tell you our starting eleven an hour after the game which is weird because I used to know everything about the team/club, so that is perhaps a sign of my intrest declining.

But if I don't to a game for say a month I do miss it and am pulled back no matter what our form. I can't barring unforseen circumstances ever see that changing.

I only watch two levels of football now. Watford is one of course, who have consistently performed above the level you would expect from our fanbase. So I have already renewed my season ticket and look forward to seeing further development of our talented youngsters. I also get just as much pleasure watching my grandsons play for their school or local teams. That is the real Mcoy. Premiership, I wouldn't give you a **** for it. Driven by outrageous greed, ego and sycophantic glory seekers, it sickens me to the core.

Id like to add to my earlier post, like many others, that my general interest for football as a whole has gone severly down hill. I used to watch all the live prem games on tv, love watching england and all that, and even watch shyty league 2 games on tv aswell, but now i hardly watch any matches at all on sky, mainly because im so bored of all the "big event", media anticipation and animated tv presentations in order to in tell me the team sheet - cut the s--t, just tell me the farkin team ffs. Watching england is the same old ****, mid week friendlies against moldova is not the best use of my time and as a result, i couldnt give a fark anymore about them. The biggest news to come out of england internationals is michael carrick picking up a bruised knee. Sh1T the bed, call someone who cares.

The Premiership top 4 is going to be the same each year now...unless Liverpool knock out Arsenal because one spends big as usual and the other doesn't.

As for England...the fact their last friendly was one of the best in a whille without all the big names says something.

I don't accept that LB. Surely the best way to show passion is to put your hand in your pocket and go to as many games as you realistically can afford? I hate those conversations with Watford 'fans' who haven't been to a game in years.

A lot of the comments on here about hype, cheating players etc are spot on however and although I may be biased, I feel that Watford are different. I've got a couple of QPR supporting mates who have been bragging all week about their promotion but I genuinely don't feel envious as I feel proud to support a club like ours who have competed in the champ on limited resources with home grown players. Long may it continue. And people going through the turnstiles can only aid that.

The club see us as customers so need our custom but it looks like we're not a happy bunch at the moment.
But how many of us will actually get in touch with them personally to tell them why we're not renewing season tickets or not turning up on the day?
Or why our love of the game is dwindling?
A few will but the majority won't.

So by forwarding the link they've got a chance to read what we, the humble supporter/customer, honestly feel about football and to an extent WFC.

We could wait for a fans questionnaire but how many fill those in?
The questions asked may not address half of what has been highlighted already.

Sure, a lot of the points raised here are about football in general and WFC probably can't affect too much about what's raised there but who knows, if they even bother to take a look at our remarks maybe they can come up with something that may engage a few lost fans once more?

As for forwarding it onto the Watford Observer, well, if WFC fans aren't happy maybe they'll highlight the growing dissatisfaction within the WFC fan base?

Either way it's better if they're given the chance to know what we think and what is keeping people away isn't it?

I disagree. I am lucky in that I have no kids and earn a very good salary that allows me to keep going to football which is an expensive hobby. Some people simply can't afford to go to games, some have other commitments, some have been going along since God was in pants and now they just want to spend their weekends doing other things. Each to their own.
