I am happy with this signing. Anyone at the back has to be better than Demerit and Mariappa!! As someone pointed out earlier in the thread, we let most of our goals in from long balls over our midget defence! We've missed a Shittu type of player to clear the first ball from dangerous positions! I wouldn't read too much into his knee injury. King had one, and look at him now, he barely misses games because of this injury. He's played in 90% of Wycombe's games since coming back from injury.
Agree with that. Ok he's unproven at this level, but it isn't as hard as our defence make it look to head the ball clear!! (or maybe it is...) I'm not exactly excited by the signing, but i'm just glad we've finally got someone who adds a bit of height and hopefully strength
Rrrrrrrr. Roger Johnson did not attract much attention either. Now he is wanted by several clubs in the Premiership. Because many managers in the Premier***** are foreign they tend to ignore the hidden gems in the lower leagues rather relying on bringing on what they perceive to be superior or equal quality at a lower price from the Continent. Remember a certain Kevin Phillips ? More optimism please. In my humble opinion this is an excellent bit of business, in a position that has needed it since the departure of Grumps Shittu. With that physical presence back Jay after going to the Green Bay gym ,can start to hoover in and around him .
When people say he's not proven at this level what do they mean? Not sure we have many players proven at our level do we ... ?
Extremely happy with this signing.... so many pluses for me Highly rated by Wycombe fans Low fee due to short contract Low wages 6ft 3" good height Wants to prove himself Local lad, no need to settle Good age In fact, I cant see how anyone can moan at this one. When you look at some of the guys that we've brought in from the lower leagues, paid bigger money for and furnished with big wages this one looks an absolute steal Signing of the last couple of seasons for me! (loans dont count)
I accept he could possibly contend for wfc player of the season, after our league one campaign 09/10 and will probably be favourite to win the same title in our league two campiagn 10/11. Why are we buying players? even carpy league two players on small wages - we only have 5 days left before A Flecks gloriously written "administration in January unless we pay off £4 million", article.:sign15: Is £150k all your matey brothers can afford - i am very disappointed.:]]
There are a couple of things that might soil your rose-tinted specs KJ. He failed to get into the Saints' first team for the five years he spent there (from age 18 to 23). He's never played above league 2 level. He's had a serious knee injury. So he's a gamble more than a savior. But a cheap gamble where the pay-off is potentially rather high. I think the people moaning (other than PYA) were moaning due to the alleged 500k price tag. At 150k it seems a fair price to me. And I completely agree with the many plusses you've stated.
An interesting side observation about the possibility of Williamson pedigree, is the result Wycombe suffered without him on Saturday!!! They are the runaway leaders of their league and before Saturday they had only conceded 15 goals all season, yet they were beaten 3-1 by 2nd bottom Bournemouth whilst playing without our new Willo!!! It could of course be a coincidence, it could also be an indication of just how good Williamson is!!! Lets hope it is the latter!!!
Well as it happens they came to me for a small loan and I was more than happy to oblige. The old change pot in my kitchen was getting rather full anyway.... :]]
The couple of things you have listed dont really wash with me Kevin Philips had never played above non league before he joioned us (see many others also, Kightly?) Serious knee injuries dont mean a players career is over... judging by the reports on his form this year, it doesnt sound as though its affecting him As for Southampton, well he obviously needed regular first team football (how many times have we said THAT?) Remember Bouazza played very sporadically for about 4 years for us before a last ditch loan move brought out his potential. Could have easily let him go on a free before that move to a league 1/2 club. Same goes for Ainsworth, can anyone on here safely say he wont make it or at least improve above league 1 standard?
To be fair, Southampton were in the Premiership throughout his time there. So it would of been hard for him to break into the side.
That is true but they were a very very poor PrL side. However, after last night - if that is the level of performance we can expect from him £150k isn't a bargain - it's a farkin steal!
lol saints beat man utd the season they went down 4-1, i was there, so they wernt that bad! far better than derby lol dnt forget how good leeds (viduka, smith, kewell, and more) team was that went down. no1 is safe!
Quite. I hope he keeps it up. Consitency is much easier at CB than any other position anyway due to the basic nature of the posisiton.
