I'm amazed at the amount of other teams fans are stating that Zola suffered from the 'rule change' and this showed him up as a manager. Deary me, how ******ed can you be. We ****ing signed them!
To the idiots stating that Zola was 'driven out' by fans on here and twitter - get ****ing real. The guy resigned because of his own doubts about his ability to turn this around, yet your happy to sit here and call people stupid for doubting his ability? ****ing morons. He wanted to quit after Yeovil but was convinced to stay - I am glad you have so much faith that he was going to turn it around, because he didn't. We all loved Zola, we all still do - but the way some of those who wanted him to stay are acting is astonishing, you realise he left on his own accord?
Apart from Vydra which was probably key! In fact we signed a load more which people don't seem to realise mainly because most don't play.
I am just left with a feeling of regret and disappointment and that Zola is an unlucky manager. Think of the game against Leeds when we couldn't scramble the ball across the line and end up with effectively no goalkeeper, the pre playoff final injuries to Vydra and Forestieri and Vydra limping off, the Brighton goal that wasn't which would have led to 3 pts, Anya's disallowed goal on Saturday not to mention countless penalties denied last season, every chance for opposing teams finding the back of the net in recent games at the vic and of course injuries to key players like Abdi. I am glad the board have acted in restraint by not sacking him and await with some trepidation Zola's replacement. If we get Holloway I will cry Funnily enough I could see Zola fitting in well at Spurs, wish him luck and hope we can give hima a proper round of applause next time our paths cross.
There's not anything left for me to say that hasn't been said already. A lot on here say they're sad to see him go, and a lot of you are the same people who have been calling for his head for weeks. Got to say, I am absolutely gutted though, totally ruined my day when I found this out an hour before leaving work. What a class act the man was, and whilst something needed changing, i'll never be convinced Zola's position was that something. Cheers for the memories Gianfranco - i'll certainly never forget them.
He resigned because he knew he couldn't change our current form. I can assure you he didn't resign because of a few keyboard warriors on a football forum
Massive shame that he lost confidence in his own ability to turn things around - but credit to him for being brave enough to see this and walking. If he truly no longer believed that he was the right man for the job, then him leaving is the best for both parties. Personally, I wish he'd been willing to work at it a little longer, I believe he'd have turned things around if given the January window to address some issues with the squad and maybe ship out any potentially disruptive influences in the dressing room. His departure is tinged with a massive sense of "what could have been". Pleasure to have had such a great man lead our club, however briefly it lasted.
You don't even know who he'll be yet, and already you're writing him off? For someone calling other fans 'scum' for having perfectly valid opinions of an incumbent manager... you've got to admit, that's pretty damn rich.
I’m sure many of us have had work colleagues that were fantastic people, but not good enough at the job they were employed to do, so were let go
Be nice if us the fans did something to say thanks to him for his time here. banner perhaps? Italian flag? I dunno but I think his letter deserves some kind of thank you response from the fans. 1881?
I think this thread is enough to warm his cockles if he reads it. If anyone makes and displays a banner at the next game to pay tribute to him, I fear I may throw up. Lovely guy but time for him to go. He went with class and dignity and I'm grateful for that.
For those of us at Wembley last season, its amazing to think that both managers have now resigned. Add in the mix Poyet's indiscretions at Brighton and only one of the four play off managers remains in place.
Such a terrible post. I didn't think he was the right man to turn things around but doesn't mean I dislike the guy.
I wonder if people who want the manager to go after a run of poor results/luck also complain when the manager wants to leave for a bigger club when results are good.
I wonder if the people who can't see the writing on the wall have **** things happening to themselves over and over again in their everyday lives and do nothing to remedy it?
I feel strangely sad about today's events, I've never felt this way about a manager leaving or getting the sack before, must be the Zola effect, and then the open letter, really did feel like welling up. Still, after the comments from the Wednesday game it was fairly obvious he was going to go
Please remember that a major reason the Pozzos chose Watford was because our fans are supposed to be patient to be a part of a long term project rather than demand instant gratification.
I would like him to be invited to the next home game but some full kit ******* would find the courage to boo.
I could not have more respect for him, an absolutely fantastic person who conducts himself better than anyone I've ever known, having achieved what he has done, in the business he's in. However, this was the right call imo. I think he's destined to be at a top club where he can coach an attacking philosophy where they're so ****-hot going forward that he doesn't really need to focus too much on the defensive side of the game. It wasn't possible here, and whilst he did a good job in the first season, this season has been a bit of a mess. We need a tactician and a good coach, with a clear philosophy, who can make us consistent, pinning teams back with our technical quality. Whoever is appointed must've impressed Gino and co, and therefore I absolutely support whatever decision is made.
