Jorell Johnson, Alex Jakubiak, George Byers and Josh Doherty signed. The other 2nd year scholars have been released. Good to see us holding on to 4 this year rather than just 1 last year
Jorell Johnson (Central defender) Alex Jakubiak (Striker) George Byers (Midfielder) Josh Doherty (Full back) 4 is a lot compared to the average kept on so high hopes I suspect for these lads. All good prospects. Hopefully they'll get a chance with us. EDIT: To add positions
What positions do they all play? I know Jakubiak is a striker, is Johnson defence and the others midfield?
From Alan Palmer on facebook. His son is a member of the academy (although just been signed by Northwood so i probably leaving) and so he knew who had been signed before its been released by the club. Ryan Hope has definitely been released, I am unsure who else though as I don't know which ones are first year scholars and which ones are second year
Think so - mind you the Pozzos might tie them down for longer if they are considered big prospects? Daniel Wilks who was the goalie and Harry Kyprianou might be 2 more let go. Probably best to wait for official confirmation though!
Yep Kyprianou is a first year still. Thought Wilks was meant to be decent so a bit surprised if he doesn't get another year. Doherty is the left footed centre back/full back who takes one step penalties. Johnson doesn't look the biggest but he's a bit of a beast at centre back and was captaining the youth team even in the first year of his scholarship. I think most people know about the other two, Byers is a classy central midfielder, good passer and has a good shot. Jakubiak is looking one hell of a prospect - strength, work rate, pace and is pretty deadly in front of goal (has 20+ goals for the under 18s this season).
I see Armenakas and Folivi are some of the new first year scholars. No Ogo Obi though. Is he the year below or has he turned down a scholarship with us?? I know Arsenal were sniffing around.
Regarding Ogo Obi, if you Google him you will see several articles stating that his performance at the milk cup attracted interest from Liverpool and Arsenal. According to Twitter and Facebook though, he still lists himself as a Watford FC player.
Strangely though, a Twitter user has asked why Obi has not been announced as a scholar and he has retweeted it. Odd. EDIT: I'm sorry I can't post the link, I'm on my phone at the moment.
Looks to me like he's moving on for one reason or another? " Everything happens for a reason⚽️.. Sometimes you goota move forward, not look backwards. "
