Surely not!!! It's only 4 months since we matched, and so nearly beat, a record that they'd so proudly held since 1903 in the FA Cup. And they were up against Bury!!! BURY!!! (BTW RIP Bury FC. EFL ***wits, shame on you!!!) Premier League 2017/2018 Season - Derby County 11 points Let's not equal their record. 10 points and it's ours!!! COYH!!!
Two points from our last four matches. Same as Aston Villa and Brighton. With Everton three points from last four as do Manchester United and Norwich. Sheffield Utd have four points from last four matches. Just our luck that we play the in form side of the strugglers in our next match
Not sure we’ll be quite that bad, but I do consider it’s possible. However, with just 31 matches remaining and the knowledge we’d need to win around 12 of them, I cannot see how we’re going to get close to 38 points, or whatever the threshold may be.
Probably 20 or so ? We actually might have taken 1 point from the Arsenal and City games but we gave the goals away too easily last week and today .
At this stage, I’d take 20. Goals, not points. No way are we getting into double digits with the latter.
The biggest issue for me will be how we adapt to life in the championship. It's almost impossible to come straight back up these days due to the squad disruption. The likes of GD, Sarr, Doucs, will be gone at fire sale prices. Our Brazilian wonderkid won't be playing in the champ. Do we have relegation clauses in all contracts ? New manager ? The wheel will have turned full circle, when the L**** manager, fearing trouble, asks his side to go easy in the 2nd half, after they go in 4-0 up at the break at the Vic.
Yep it’s going to be carnage. Imagine champo year 3 still paying Dawson and Cathcart chunky wages as 33 year olds. The problem is we have a massive gap between our veterans and prospects due to squad mismanagement. Who can you look at and think a) he will stick around and b) he’s guaranteed top level champ quality. Cathcart. Hughes. Gray and Deeney? Cleverly. Struggling after that. We might get lucky and someone like Success of Peneranda will explode into life if they stick around.
Won 1 Drawn 8 Lost 29 Goal Difference -69 Points 11 If we get even close to this in May.... I think Gino will sell up shop - Nath will become mayor of Watford.
Dunno about Derby but i was thinking about the season Palace had in 17/18 the other day.. their 5th season back in the Prem https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017–18_Crystal_Palace_F.C._season Started with 7 straight losses without scoring a goal and conceding 17. They sacked their manager after 4 league games and his replacement didnt see a victory until his 4th game. From there they progressed steadily getting up to finish in 11th place. To do this they only had back to back victories twice before finishing strongly with 3 in a row. Most points were gained from lower half of the table sides with just the one victory coming against the top 6. So.. well there's a lot of comparisons with our season so far there. Yes we need a big turnaround (starting today hopefully) but guess what i'm trying to highlight here is that if we can turn the ship around getting to a safe position might not be as hard as it seems.. and perhaps it's a tad pessimistic having us already relegated, as some have.
They did beat Chelsea.. in his 4th league game having lost to Saints at home 1-0 and 4-0 & 5-0 to the two Manchesters on consecutive Saturday's. There was also a LC win in there. It all seems very familiar.
Am convinced we had a say in that astonishing CP revival. If I recall correctly their form had started to dive again heading into December and it was looking bleak. But then we go and turn up one midweek night, take an early lead, look to see it out... still 0-1 in the 86th... and they still take the 3pts. The following Saturday they then go up to Leicester and won 3-0 (whilst we went 1-4 to Hudds). They never looked back and I think they even finished above us in the end. But that’s the thing about Palace. They dig in. And also, somehow, get more results each year against Chelseas, United, Arsenal, even City. Whereas we tend to sh*t ourselves. Which is why we won’t emulate them, in all likelihood. (NB. Given the 2013 final, the 2016 semi and the aforementioned turnaround in 2917, we are as much the bloody architects of their current status as they are). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Not quite. They hadnt lost for the previous 5 games (2 wins, 3 draws) when they had that late turn around vs us. They finished the season 3 points and 3 places above us.. and i make it that they have now won 10 games vs top 6 clubs since we returned to the Prem. We have won 6. We do seem to live in a Palace bizarro world. Take that season when they started badly. After 8 games they had 3 points and a goal difference of -16.. exactly the same as us now. Where were Watford in the table at that point? 4th.. and Palace are....
I'm not so worried about doing a Derby. More worried about doing a Sunderland. The Pozzo model worked, short term. But is it sustainable? Udinese, Granada and Watford are all either relegated (and sold) or in relegation battles. Identity seems to be the issue. We have no identifiable playing style and no real desire to develop youngsters or managers. Other than "Troy Deeney's club", I don't know what we are anymore.
Think Udinese have got worse since the Pozzos focused on us more and Granada have been promoted back to la liga after being taken over . Do the players have clauses in their contracts for the wages to be cut if we did go down ? Troy and Gray earning 170k combined in the Championship might not be a good thing ! Few high earners would be off the wage bill though and we'd get some money in from sales . I guess there might have to be a different approach in terms of giving younger players a go. Guess QSF won't stick around if we do get relegated? Let's hope we don't have to worry about that !!
To be fair we always knew this was the price we were going to have to pay to get to the 'promised land' with the Pozzo's in charge.
