Wider commercial opportunities

I'm not a marketeer but would be interested to hear from those that are what ideas they'd have to increase our revenues given:
    - our Premiership status
    - our signing of significant names

Apologies if it sounds like an exam question but it's an area I don't see the Pozzo's have exploited across any of the tripartite, and seems ripe for some blue sky thinking.

I think the vast amount of increase will come through association and advertising.

Match day revenue will increase, but as someone else said on another thread, you can't get a cup of tea at the moment and those who sit in the Vic Road stand know how poor the catering facilities are down there.

New shirts, programs, PL merchandise will bring in a few £ but not a lot in the scheme of it all.

Have you been to the club shop...rather one of the club shops, at Old Trafford? They are like mid-sized supermarkets but all the cat food and toothpaste et al they sell has a Manchester Utd crest on it.

Not to be a complete cynic, but I believe that the reason for so many nationalities within the squad is partly down to commercial opportunities abroad. Now we're in the Premiership, there is likely to be a wider following abroad (because of certain players in our squad). I don't think, apart from charging a bit more for advertising etc, there is an awful lot of opportunity to increase revenue streams domestically unless we suddenly do a Man City.

So really, we should sign some Brazilians now.

As someone suggested on another thread a few days ago, our best opportunity would be to utilise Layun's popularity and concentrate on the Mexican/Central American market and push our brand there. The Asian market has been cornered by the largest clubs in this country beyond saturation point. Cardiff and QPR struggled to get in to that market even with their well connected owners.

I'm not sure you could ever saturate the Chinese market bearing in mind there are about 1.35 billion of them at the latest count!

Didn't we loan Ranegie to some China team last season, perhaps we built up a few contacts there. Would love to see this again...

Our merchandise should be made available in Udinese and Granada, likewise theirs should be made available in our shop. Maybe just a small stock, but also made available to order in all 3 teams outlets.

We could possibly try to get local sports shops in all 3 areas to stock our shirts, as well as the other two teams, perhaps we could offer the shops a mail order agency if they don't want to actually carry stock on the premises.

I don't think that. The Pozzo's have never exploited much marketing opportunities.
Also, because with the handful of people living in Udine and whereabouts, there's very little to exploit. I mean: you buy a great player in a team with millions of fans and you can almost pay a decent share of his wages with the gains from selling the shirts with his name. You cannot do that in a 90k-people city.

The fact that there are so many different nations represented is IMHO simply due to the fact that Pozzo's scouts love to search in less obvious places and find good players from Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, etc. etc. rather than the "usual" Argentinian or Brazilian.

But ... I must say the huge local popularity some players from these leagues have (like Layun in Mexico or Adnan in Iraq), combined with the worldwide visibility of Premier League, might change things.
Gino Pozzo doesn't look like one to underestimate potential gain opportunities.

I did used to work in a market. Not sure how it's relevant to the question, unless you're proposing a fortnightly bazar on the pitch?

I nearly jumped out of a moving car when I saw a bus stop in Natal, Brazil called 'Watford.'

I think these buses would've caused me to crash if I saw one unexpectedly in Krung Thep.

Not very surprising...5 quid for a box of Manchester United cornflakes is only going to appeal to the most brain-dead of fans.

Thinking about it I bet their kitchen cupboards are chock full of Manchester United cornflakes. I mean, what special kind of idiot must you be to film those antics on your phone and share them with your 'mates'.

The club are yet to respond to my request for the SW corner to be turned into a "culture hub". I'm guessing they think it may be too small to host a gallery and are looking for alternatives such as getting rid of the Rookery Bar???

As others have said, we must actively try to make ourselves better known overseas, being in The Premiership should help us to do this, and maybe in a few years we can become a much better known club overseas, which in turn should improve the club, not only financially, but will make us a more attractive proposition to the worlds leading players.

Man Utd eat your hearts out, "The Horns" are on the rise!!!
