Vicarage road is a ver poor stadium for where we stand in the table. it doesnt hold near as much as most of the other championship teams stadiums. So for away fans it is nothign to exciting to come and see, so if the fans were to all be men who came to sign hearts out, that would generate trouble, and we would b left with **** ground violent fans. Many awy fans i speak to say that we are a very supportive fans ( okay not so much recently ) and that we are nice set of fans who they feel safe around and that we are a good club that is suitable for all ages.. LONG LIVE THE VIC, WE DON'T HAVE TO BE LIKE ALL THE OTHER TEAMS, LETS JUST BE PROUD OF WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
RECENTLY, we have moaned at manager ( okay i admit i have aswell ), We moaned at ball boys we moaned at football standards we moaned at fans CUMMON LOOKIN BACK WE ARE SECOND LOOK VERY GOOD AGAINST WOLVES!! WHY ARE WE MOANING ABOUT SOMETHING WE SHOULD ALL LOVE
I see what you're saying in your original post, but it's a bit hard to support the team and follow this whole 'We'll be a big club soon' bandwagon with a very basic stadium with a ranshackle stand that should've been knocked down years ago.
At primary school our local vicar told us a story to illustrate that a church isnt the building but the people in it! I like our stadium, and most away fans think it has character. What they judge the club on however is the sorry state of our fans.
I'll Admit That I'm No Expert But there are maybe 3 CCC with worst grounds than us (Scunnie/Colchester/Blackpool)........ There are at least 7 Div1/2 clubs with better grounds (maybe more) Forest Northampton Leeds Huddersfield Millwall Bradford MK Dons Thanks to Graham Simpson and the board we will at least have a ground to be proud of soon (but it's still 5 or 10 years after it should have happened).
I love the Vic although i'll be happy to see a new east stand. i hate identikit grounds like St Mary's, the Madjeski, the Britannia. they really do all look and feel the same. At least we have some individual character
Alot of the newer stadiums in the lower league have limited capacity to suit their current needs but can be expanded (mecano style). It's not simply a case of capacity as some of those around the world with the largest are the most run down.
It is a bit unfair comparing our stadium to most of the others in this division to be honest because a lot of them have been in the top flight for an extended period at some point in the last 30 years. We were, but the council blocked all our plans so we made do with what land we had in stead of moving to a new one like most other teams in the same position would have/did. I like the Vic. It is a bit different, it has fairly good amenities and soon it will have a half decent stand to the East. Stop whining. Its a pretty good ground, and is overkill for our current needs and our needs at least for the next 10 years - an that is IF we stay in the Prem.
I am not moaning, I'd still go if there were NO stands but good amenities and things like pre-match/halftime entertainment improve the experience. We have 3/4 of a decent ground with only the East Stand needing a total rebuild so it's not the end of the world and things are in hand. 20-25k will probably be sufficient and if I do have something to moan about i'ts the way that the playing surface is ruined each season by our tenants.
I am a member of the football grounds guide messageboard and on several occasions people have started "favourite away ground" threads..on nearly every occasion Vicarage Road is nominated by someone. For me there is one good reason for this..and that is because in this day of increasing out of town football stadia, we remained in (and part of) the town center. It cannot be stated enough how important that is for the match day experience. Sometime in the early eighties it was planned that Watford FC would be looking to move to a new ground on the outskirks of the town..luckily this never materialised. But having said that, once the decision was made to stay at vic, we sealed the fate of any future expansion plans..we were always going to be limited to what can fit on the site. Personally i think that this sacrifice has been worth it to retain our town center position.
Can't understand why people are moaning about the Vic when it is known that the redevelopment of the ground is an ongoing project. With it being common knowledge that the building of flats behind the rookery will give us the funds to pay for the New main stand! Impatient Fkers some people, give them a chance...Rome wasn't built in a day. What we gonna have a moan at next?? The length of the groundsmans fork? Heard they are putting a Reebok outlet in the Rookery, that should keep some of you happy ;-)
Good shout Potguy. Let's also remember that Pompey are doing well and Fratton Park is very similar to the Vic. If we moved location to allow plans for a bigger ground, would we fill it? No! The biggest ground in the country wouldn't increase our fan base with the likes of Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal............. on our door step! The family club, the yo yo seasons, the locality, availablity, the team, the manager, the staff, the fans are all examples of why I am a Watford fan and go to games year after year
The East Stand is a joke. Why do people pay to sit in there :]]:]]:]] I used to hate just sitting in there when I was getting free tickets :]]
some of my friends sit in the doomed east stand and are not looking forward to losing their seats ! they call em homely seats where nearly everyone knows each other and has done for years. but it does let our ground down, imo, and i carnt wait for the year the east stand is ree done and opened. ive followed the horns since 72ish and to compare the ground then to now you would know how lucky we are to have all four end, sides, with roof . in those days some of them leaked.
East stand is rubbish but I actually have a decent view thanks...probably be better than when we all have to move into the Viccy Road End next season and cannot see the screen according to people who are seated there. Toilets are a bit crap but are they any better elsewhere? Nice little tea-hut to watch the footie Pre-match as well although guessing a new stand will have big screens like in the Rookery? Suppose it will give oppo fans one less thing to have a go at us about.
