Not if we sell Doucoure, Pereyra, Deeney, Gray, Femenia and Deulofeu? The fee’s that lot would fetch would make it far easier to insist Sarr isn’t for sale I suspect. And would be the far better option.

I don't see how anybody would be making a bid for Deulofeu until he is not just fit but proving himself on the pitch. Players have been known to not come back fully from injuries like that.
My daughter notes that Pereyra is forever on social media about Argentina. She suspects he or his family are homesick. I'm not sure South American clubs pay big money for players.
Femenia may not have a big sell-on value. But I think he could well spend the season as a squad right winger. I think we've had worse right wingers before who were actually regular first--teamers.

It's all ifs at this stage, Pereyra will surely be gone (£10m?), Deeney and Gray might be hard to shift, and if so, we aren't getting big fees for them (I hear we want £8-10m for Gray, and we're supposedly offering Deeney out on loan), Deulofeu I've heard we are asking for £15m, haven't heard much on Doucoure yet (somewhere in the region of £20-30m?), and Femenia would probably be a fairly small fee (£5m let's say? Javi at Valencia has basically **** all to play with the ridiculously small fees their best players are going for). Been hearing that teams are interested in getting Cucho on loan (just until January hopefully!), but that we intend to keep hold of Suarez (whether that's just a ploy to squeeze as much out of him as possible I don't know)

Exactly this. We will look to offload those 6 plus Estupinan. That’s probably £80mil+ right there. Wages massively decreased, some chunk of debt paid off to keep the money men happy, then we will probably have £20-30mil left over to spend strengthening.

    Doucoure £20-30mil
    Pereyra £10mil
    Deeney £5-10mil/loan
    Gray £8-10mil
    Femenia £5-7mil
    Deulofeu £20-30mil
    Estupinan £20-30mil

Was thinking why loan Deeney out, but then thought actually wages saved + loan fee, then fingers crossed get promoted and sell him to a championship team for a small fee next year. Makes sense financially overall as we’ll save about £3.5m in wages and make £2m+ in loan fees, plus a fee next year.

    Sold next week then ...

I agree though there are other less important players on higher wages we can shift - and who want to leave.

Deeney only has one year left on his contract, so there'd be no fee next year unless we stupidly renew it.

Just get rid of him now, however it's possible.

Welbeck will attract interest I imagine as well so that's all out strikers gone with your list. I don't see it happening the season is coming around too quickly to obtain better replacements in a second tier division. Unless the club sells and doesn't replace. Which then makes promotion unlikely.

Fair enough, I assumed he has two but if it’s one then yeah get rid ASAP.

So long as we get someone in otherwise left with injured Success, unproven young Brazilian and Gray.

Reckon we won't see any of the Spanish guys tbh.

I don't think we will be paying for anyone till players are sold.

Expect a few loan or free transfer deals before hand.

Nobody is buying Deulofeu. He’s just had a serious injury and clubs would like to see how he is once fit which might be a while yet

Crewe LB. Very good player, I done a whole thing in the transfer suggestion thread on him. In the last year of his contract, so will be very cheap. Has all the attributes to be a top LB.

The window (ahem) 'slams shut' on October 5th, but there is a domestic only extension until October 16th. So if clubs are desperate for cash, Prem teams can still buy/steal their players up till then.

    Basically the whole defence ?

I guess would be no great loss but we'd want some money back on Cathcart/Dawson ?

With Sarr bring quoted saying he'll play in the champo if we want him to, we have to keep him! There's no upside to selling him now from a position of weakness, during the pandemic. If Liverpool turned down a bargain deal for Werner why would they pay £40m+ for Sarr? Klopp has hinted Liverpool will strengthen up front next summer instead (publicly asked sancho to wait a year). It took Sarr a lot of time to adjust (totally understandable, young guy moving to a non French/Wolof speaking country for the first time, team playing the wrong system for him, QSF saying he's a centre forward). The stability of staying at Watford and toughening up in the champo could do him a lot of good like with Mount, Abraham, Brewster. To be honest I'm really impressed by his attitude. He looked really upset at the Emirates after we got relegated, he obviously cares. We can make the money we need by selling other players who are less committed to the cause. If he says he's willing to stay then keep him. Fantastic commitment from a guy who could become world class in the future. The idea of Sarr, Del boy and Estupiñan in the champo is really mindblowing. To use an old quote about Eric Steele, a lot of championship defences won't know whether to sh1t, shave or have a haircut!

Thought Foster would be one to leave when we went down but his tweet + Leventhal’s comments seem to make it clear he’s staying. Was great most of last season but his form was poor by the end; hope he can turn that around.
Bachmann always struck me as the classic backup option but if he wants to actually play this might be the time for him to force it through. If us dropping down a division doesn’t mean minutes here then nothing will.
Kiko is such a powder puff defender. Won’t mind him going one bit. Valencia have no money but if they’re interested someone else will be too. Hopefully get around £4m.
Janmaat won’t be going anywhere due to his ongoing injury issues. What’s happened there btw? He got an infection I believe? He’s been out nearly a year at this point.
We’re stuck with Dawson and Cathcart. Both are Championship quality so won’t get a move back to the PL and will have higher wages than another Championship side would pay. Decent enough as rotation but wouldn’t want to rely too heavily on players that we know we’ll have to replace if we achieve our goal.
While both Holebas and Gomes’ departures seem to be confirmed, I think Mariappa will get a new deal. Seen as a good example to others by the club who’ll probably think he’s good enough in the Champ. We’ll see.
Kabasele will likely have admirers back in Belgium, or maybe a French side. Can’t see him playing in the Championship while harbouring international aspirations. Not that fussed if he goes.
I still expect Masina to go back to Serie A as he was pretty highly rated there. If he stays I’d like to see him tried at left CB, could be another Tyrone Mings situation. So either way I want two new left backs!
As for defensive loanees, Navarro may be binned off if anyone will have him but if he’s on low wages maybe he could do a job. Estupinan will be off to a big club playing in Europe. I’d like the club to get at least £20m and include a good sell-on percentage too.
Wilmot will be kept in the squad and I hope he plays. Always looked very composed and anticipated danger brilliantly when he played for us. Play him at CB though ffs.
It seems inevitable that Doucoure will leave - Everton sniffing round as ever but I also heard rumours of Arsenal. He must be about fifth on their list of CMs. I’d want £25m or so.
Chalobah hasn’t shown nearly enough to get a PL move. Let’s hope regular games will help him find his best form again. He played well when Pearson first came in, after Hughes’ injury.
Lyon have wanted Capoue for a while so this will be their chance. As much as I think he likes it here, you’d take top flight football (in your home country) over the Championship wouldn’t you.
I reckon someone will have noticed Hughes’ performances at the end of last season. A mid-lower team will fancy him at around £10m (maybe we could squeeze out £15m? Don’t think he has that long to run on his contract though).
Cleverley’s on £50k pw according to those super reliable Prem wages websites. If that’s even close to being true then he’s going nowhere. Hopefully had a relegation wage reduction clause.
The team should be built around Quina. He was definitely a little rough around the edges when he got in to the team under Javi but the talent was clear to see. This has been such a wasted year for him. In the cup games he far outshone Chalobah in my eyes and needs to be a mainstay for the promotion push.
Pereyra’s been checked out for months. Nailed on back to Italy. Shame we only saw his quality in flashes but he has left a brilliant highlights reel from those 4 years (well, 3 of them anyway).
Will Pussetto fancy a tough slog in the Champ? Left Udinese to play, was sold the dream of playing PL and got shafted. No idea if he’s any good having only seen a couple of short cameos. Reckon there’ll be some Serie A team comes in for him or maybe he’ll go back to Argentina.
The most debated one: Deulofeu. I know I said Janmaat won’t leave because of injury, but I think Geri will regardless. Janmaat’s always a sick note and is an average, ageing full back. Deulofeu is a mercurial winger approaching his best years. There will be plenty of clubs after him and he’s way too good for this league. While I don’t think anyone will pay up front what we’d demand for him, I can see someone taking him on a season loan with an obligation to buy for £20m if he plays enough games. He’s worth way more imo but that’s what I think we’ll get.
The other prize asset, Sarr, will be off as well. Don’t get your hopes up too much after his recent comments. While it’s commendable that he hasn’t immediately demanded to leave and refused to play in that tinpot league etc, he has not ruled out a move. Make no mistake, if the offer’s there he will want to go. If someone is willing to stump up £40m then we’re not going to be in a position to turn it down.
As much as I want to see him bang 20 goals in an easier league and go on to fulfil his potential, Penaranda is never going to do that here. Had enough chances in the squad and never earnt a place under successive head coaches. Seemingly a bad attitude to boot, so will be packed off to Turkey or some obscure league.
Similar story with Success. However as he’s injured (and not high profile/talented like Geri) he’ll be staying a little while longer. He played well in the cup against League One Coventry. Maybe can do it regularly in the Championship? Won’t hold my breath.
Joao Pedro is one who I think may stay and give us a season just because he hasn’t yet shown what he’s got. If he has a good year and we don’t go up, then he’ll leave!
Deeney’s hard to call. I presumed he’d stay because he’s lost all footballing ability but gets paid a fortune. However stories have circulated since we went down. Genuine interest? Or lazy journalism? I don’t think anyone will want to pay him as much as we do given the current financial crisis. He’s staying put. Exactly 30 yards from their goal.
Same for Gray. Terrible player, huge wages. No-one will touch him with a ten foot barge pole. And it still won’t be enough space for him to bring a football under control.
Welbeck is a big enough name to con somebody in to paying £5m or so to take him back to the Prem. West Ham, Newcastle or Palace are my bets. Another whose wages are too high for the Championship so we will have to sell. We can’t justify 3 forwards on a combined £240k per week (assuming no clauses were in place).
Suarez will join a La Liga team for £12m or so. He’s had a good season, attracted a lot of interest and you can guarantee his agent will be in his ear convincing him to jump ship asap and earn way more money.
Cucho ended the season fairly well for Mallorca. Think he’ll see himself as a top tier player these days. Previous comments about it being time he played here were made when we were PL. A loan seems likely, perhaps made permanent next summer if we don’t go up.
