What if Marlon.........

What if Marlon had played a full season?

Do you think he would have maintained his 25% strike rate (games to goals) which would have been a total of say 9/10, or would he have improved or got worse?

Currently Albert JARRETT has the best strike rate in the seniors at the club with a 50% strike rate with Matty Spring not far behind for his reserve performances.

I can't understand why our other strikers haven't been given a run out.

if we did and we didn't score, we would all be saying 'why didn't aidy play hendo'

With Hendo I mean. One up front doesn't work.

    Like who apart from Priskin?

Most of the Reserves strikers as injured, not good enough or out on loan.

We all have differing opinions on what Aidy should be doing, that is why we are the fans.

I would play 2 up front, I tried telling my players to play 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 and my experience says that it only really works if you have exactly the right kind of players. If the midfield isn't of the right mentality the 5 won't support the 1 properly leaving him isolated (see Sheff Utd match).

Nowadays, I stick with playing 4-4-2 as I find it a lot easier to accomodate and cover for any of the weaknesses that every squad has.

I think Aidy is planning to play 5-5-5 at Man city with Alec and Rich both in goal.

if we play 4-3-3 against city. when we dont have the ball we could make it 4-5-1 with the 2 attacking wingers dropping back to midfield.

By this i presume you mean:

    Robinson
    Seanla
    L.Henderson
    Joel Grant

Now 1 of them is out on loan whilst Henderson doesn't even play reserve football, the two that do simply aren't good enough. Far too lightweight and it would be a pointless exercise in playing them.

Theo Robinson is also injured I believe.

Ohh goody so the reserve striker with the most 1st team appearances (albeit 1/2 enthusiastic sub appearances) is out injured.

    Super.

Yes, Smith on the left, thats wear he performed for Derby

yes, Young in the Centre, when he played there last year he was class

Priskin to start and do well!!! ;D

You appear to have Stewart and Doyley on the wrong sides, although Chambers deserves a start for being half decent against Sheff Utd.

You claim to have Smith on the left yet Bouazza is. Not sure if Bouazza is even going to be fit and if he does start then seeing as he's a left footed player i'd prefer if he wasn't on the right.

When exactly did Young perform well in the centre ?? His lack of defensive capabilities will leave Mahon with too much on his plate. City have a physical midfield and Bang Bang or Francis should start.

If you want Smith on the left then push Young out on the right and play Bouazza up with Hendo.
What posessed you to play Priskin i don't know, i'm not "getting on his bacK" just i think we all know he's not ready.

someone doesnt know there right from left.

but yes i think your team is a good pick. but i would have bouazza upfront and have young on the wing.i think we should still play francis, hes a solid midfielder which is what we need.

Sounds like the best plan I've heard for a while.;D

We all have differing opinions about what Aidy SHOULD be doing but don't we all agree that Hendo on his own up front DOESN'T WORK?

Crikey Chewitt, wrong side of the bed this morning;)

I certainly feel Priskin is worthy of more runs out.

I dont think that would give him enough cover at the back and the front is a bit bland also!! lol

    I agree...
How is Priskin going to prove his worth if he isnt given the chance.
We all know that players play differently dependant on who it is they are up against.. what is to say that Priskin wouldnt play well against man city and kick start his career with us? If we lose and he doesnt perform so be it.. at least give him a chance.

But we aren't in a position to be "giving players a chance" just so they can prove themselves.

At the moment what have we got to lose?
The option that Aidy went for on tuesday night was hardly a success was it?
I say use Tamas and if he isnt performing by half time change it around.. he did well pre season after all and just cos he hasnt set the world alight when he has come on as a sub doesnt mean he wont if he gets a proper run out.

  26. Chewitt

We've got plenty to lose, confidence, belief, the slight contact we have with those above us.
He did well in pre-season against a bunch of part-timers.

  27. Defunct

But from what I saw on Tuesday we've got nothing much to lose either ;)

  28. wfchornet2

    wfchornet2 The Prodigal mod

Performances like the one on tuesday night will destroy thaat anyway!! saying that playing one player who is an international level player allbeit not a great one because you know for a fact that he wont bring it is ludicrous.
At the moment we are very thin on the ground of strikers and the so called number one striker at the moment who is getting picked week in week out is not doing it... why continue thinking that Doris will be on top of his game when he hasnt managed it thus far and at the same time not give Priskin a chance.

  29. Chewitt

    Chewitt Forum Extraordinaire

Nobody is thinking Doris will be on top form, but most believe and rightly so that he'll be more useful than Priskin.

  30. wfchornet2

    wfchornet2 The Prodigal mod

Im not saying he wont... but its ok to be useful but if you cant score a goal when its begging to be scored in wide open from a few yards out it doesnt bode well IMO especially when goal scoring is what you are paid to do.. take for instance the absolute howler of a miss against Man UTD.. a blind man could have scored the chance he missed!!!
The bottom line is no matter what we need to rely on the strikers to score... he isnt doing that!
