It seems that Silva will always start with two wingers, if he has the players available to do so. I get what you're saying: there possibly won't be a great deal of space in behind for Richarlison and Carrillo to exploit. But they both have the ability to work in tight spaces (see Carrillo taking on and beating 3 Swansea defenders from out wide last weekend).
5 is the record. We've done it twice (1981 and 1996), although on each occasion it bridged the summer break. 4 is the record in the same season and we last dId that in 2007/8. My source: http://www.watfordfcarchive.com/lists-records/
] Crikey yes 07/08 and in the middle of that sequence was the infamous 3-0 "to the football team" defeat at home to WBA. Now we will see what this saturday away brings in terms of the style of both teams
Gomes Holebas Marriapa/Prodl if fit Kabasele Kiko Cleverly Doucoure Richarlison Pereyra Carrillo Gray Half time changes? None, you idiot.
Agree that Capoue is more likely than Hughes or Pereyra for this one. The latter guys should be on the bench. Zarate back on the bench would be a nice sight. Silva will stick with two wingers, but accept Deeney might get his first start. Now that Gray has scored that would be a big call. Britos to make the bench if Prodl still out. Press conference might provide some clue after the press enquiries regarding Chalobah have been dealt with. Think we can get something from this match but only if we are canny.
If there's one game I want deeney on the pitch to defend set pieces, it's this one. Could do a job up top too.
Not sure if your joking or not squibba, do you really think it would be sensible to throw Hughes straight in? Do you really not rate capoue to the extent that you would throw in a player who has not even made the squad recently? He is clearly being left out by Marco for a reason at the moment.
It's maddening. I thought gray was a bit better v swansea, but there were still far too many calamitous moments for an £18m record signing. The thought of rich/per/car behind is making me salivate. I really hope silva doesnt let us down on this one, but I have a rotten feeling he's going to drop capoue in alongside doucoure and persist with clev further forward. Cleverley has been brilliant but I'm all about the foreign superstars over the british cloggers...
I wish people would start showing 'Lawro' a little respect. He is, after all, the BBC's 'football expert' and is currently in 10,040th place in the BBC's score predictor league.
At that fee if he gets about 8 goals this season and again next season he'll have repaid it comfortably. £18m is not that big these days.
Lets not forget that the £18 is only going to be paid in full if he plays and scores a lot. In that case, as you say, well worth it. If he doesnt meet the criteria, which im guessing are quite lofty, he will be the £10m player we initially paid for. Again, but more disappointingly, worth it
I only come on to this site to view the match previews and to see what random topic people are discussing each week. Yet today all I can see is tactics and line up predictions.
I know it's not a lot in the grand scheme of the premier league, but it feels a lot every time the ball bounces off his knee and he does that exasperated look. The fact we have a better player who cost a fraction of his fee who doesnt even make the bench makes it even more glaring (actually I have no idea how much okaka cost now I think about it, was it £3m?). Hopefully his goal last week was the start of a run of goals and his fee will be forgotten and we can move on to insulting his tattoos.
Doccoure was left out by Mazzarri for "reasons" too. Hughes has played Championship football for years and I'd expect him to be more battle hardened than a Capoue who we all know doesn't really care that much. Just my opinion. Hughes also more likely to create something when we do retrieve the ball, better final pass than Capoue I reckon.
Grays goal last week in theory earned us 2 points, he also earned us points against Bourmouth with one assist and also involved in the second goal, not saying Deeney wouldn't have done better, but it's not only the number of goals a forward scores which defines how good or other he is!
Watford's most influential player last season apparently http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40974299 Haters will be happy to see Amrabat confirmed as worst (although Doucouré's inclusion in the bottom 3 may give cause to doubt methodology)
Deeney also earned us 2 points agaist Swansea - if he hadn't closed down Roque Mesa and deflected his pass, no Richarlison goal.
2007/08 is my least favourite season in over 45 years of watching Watford. Horrible football. Horrible management. (Mostly) horrible team and, predictably, a horrible ending.
Have the stars aligned so that we can return that chant to them after 10 years?! Even with the loss of Chalobah, the group of players we have here now are far more capable of going to the Hawthorns and getting a win in comparison to our teams of the past - I just had a look at some of the stats from the 07/08 season; cover your eyes regarding our transfers (with the exception of JE)..... Expecting a very tough game, with everybody needing to be at their best in order to get a positive result.
That just shows how much we have come since the Pozzos came in. Apart from Eustace and a brief 3 month spell from Adam Johnson did any of those players have any positive impact on the club!?
Only prediction I feel confident to make is that we’ll be last up on MotD, oh and WBA will get a penalty.
I think it's more how far Football has come since then, you look at the players mid-table Championship teams sign now compared to the shower of **** everyone used to get back then. Imagine being a team competing for the play-offs back then and signing someone of Almen Abdi's quality! By the way, who the **** is Santiago Aloi? Edit: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/watford/6973019.stm More surprisingly, we had scouts in Argentina?
