Indeed. A crezzy decision.

 

All very easy people on here criticising in hindsight, but IIRC it was greeted with unanimous favour when it was originally announced.

 

This bait is far too obvious.

 

There have been loads of good keeper-captains. Shilton (and to a lesser extent Seaman, on the tail end of the same era), Buffon, Casillas, Neuer, Zoff, Combi, Lloris, Khan, Yashin...

That's not to imply Bachmann is comparable, only pushing back against the suggestion that having a keeper as captain doesn't work. There have been plenty of very successful ones over the years.

 

It shouldn't be given to Livermore. It won't make a blind bit of difference to the way he plays or conducts himself, so use it where it will have an impact.

Hoedt would be sensible, Andrews wouldn't be wild. A few sensitive souls might get upset about 'pressure' but he is an academy lad on a new long term deal, and playing in a team and a club that is on a major rebuild process that he is likely to be a mainstay of.

Also, on a wider note, people generally get too hung up on captaincy anyway. Bachmann was a petulant child before he was skipper, anyone who thinks taking the armband off him will stop him being petulant is wrong in the same way anyone thinking it will make a blind bit of difference if Livermore wears it are wrong.

 

Zoff even won the World Cup as captain.

 

Absolutely no need for Ismael to bring Bachmann’s family into it like that.

Does anyone actually think Bachmann is going to be ditched as captain? I saw this more as a warning shot from Val rather than a definitive statement that he's being binned.

 

Is that relating to the weird lad who knows everything about everything and everyone else is wrong? I saw he claimed four separate people at the club told him Bachmann would be out for months, and he subsequently played at Leicester.

 

That certainly narrows it down on the internet.

 

VI is entitled to his opinion but it's not OK to descend into outright abuse.

He questioned Bachmann's suitability for the role of captain. As we know from the summer, that equates to personal abuse related to his family and Ismael can expect to be blocked by Bachmann on social media any second now.

 

Only took VI 6 months to realise what most of the fans knew.

 

We might as well keep it as Hoedt going forwards. He had another good game today.

I have to say I'll be glad if Bachmann gets straight back in as Harmer was not good last night.

However, we really need to bring in another GK ASAP, because none of our current keepers are good enough to be a No1 choice. Harman is not even good enough to be a backup keeper and Bachmann could definitely be improved on as a No1 choice, though he is good enough to be a backup keeper.

 

We also had three seasons of evidence week in, week out. I’d rather a man make a mistake and then recognise it to be honest. Not sure there were any outstanding candidates for captaincy when Val arrived.

Yeah, no one really stands out, I guess the obvious based on the last couple of performances would be Livermore. Maybe Hoedt or Sema as they play often.

 

Yeah I think Livermore now definitely does, Hoedt seems to have shown increased levels of maturity too that may not have been immediately obvious in the summer. I think Ismael probably regrets giving it to Bachmann but at that point in the summer, not sure there were many options! (I wanted it on Porteous and how wrong was I!)

 

Fair enough, but who do you think should be Captain?

 

I'm quite surprised VI wants a captain at all, isn't he French?
