Watford move for Norwich striker Earnshaw
    tribalfooball.com - April 28, 2007

Watford are preparing a bid for Norwich City striker Robert Earnshaw.
Watford are planning for life in the Championship by preparing a £4million summer bid for Wales striker Earnshaw, 26, who has scored 26 goals in 45 games for Norwich.

Boothroyd, who tried to sign Earnshaw 12 months ago, will be given the money left over from Ashley Young's £9.6m sale to Aston Villa in January.

    Not a hope in hell!

Be lucky if we spend 4 million all summer...

Save a lot of cash by moving for Kenny Deuchar , on loan at Northampton, out of favour with Gretna.
A goal machine, the good Doctor.

I'd love to sign Ernie, but I can't see it at all - he's at a bigger club on bigger wages than we pay. He's settled and happy and, I believe has a fairly long contract.

    Shame really.

I think Earnshaw and King would be a decent partnership at Championship level.

At least Earnshaw has a proven quality about him. We are desparately short of that, but I think £4 million is way more than the club would be prepared to spend. We only offered Fulham £3.25 for John and we were in the Premiership then. We are unlikely to break the bank now.

I know Aidy went after him when we were in the Championship last time, but I am not sure whether that necessarily means we would go for him now. We have to wait and see what transfers come in.

I wouldn't forsee him moving from Norwich to us. It would be like Elton John staying at the YMCA.

The possibility of Marlon King and Earnshaw playing up front gives me sexual thrills. :)

on a match day we could have hendo, priskin, hoskins, and ashikodi on the bench with king and earnshaw on the pitch.

Norwich have been lower-mid table all season. We would offer a far better prospect of getting promoted than if he stayed there.

I would love it if we got Earnshaw. A keeper, winger, full-back and him and we will be sorted for next season.

Some quotes from him from the skysports website yesterday about transfer specualtion. He doesn't actually say that he wants to stay and doesn't sound too convinced about definitely staying either to me, whilst he may be doing alright, the side around him has been poor:

"I think I'm probably going to get that talk anyway. I just get used to it and that's how it's going to be. I don't get bothered by it," he told The Pink'un.

"I sometimes hope to get it because that means I'm doing well. But I don't get fazed by it.

"I love playing for Norwich. I think it's a good place to play football. It's going well for me so I'm enjoying my time here."

Canaries boss Peter Grant also feels it would be a good thing to receive enquiries for potential targets such as Earnshaw and midfielder ****son Etuhu.

"I'll be absolutely delighted if we get phone calls about all the squad

"In an ideal world, I would love to get phone calls from all the managers asking about X, Y and Z. The good thing is our players are contracted to us.

"These guys have done exceptionally well. Earnie could have had 30 goals if he'd kept fit and ****son has done exceptionally well since I came here, apart from two or three games.

"I'd be surprised, disappointed if people weren't phoning me about them."

Norwich play their final home game of the season against Southampton on Saturday, and Earnshaw is sad not to have more matches ahead.

"All I need now is games. The more games I play the better, the fitter I'm going to get," said the Welshman.

"It's the last home game, so we need to put on a show and send everyone off with a good feeling at the end of the season.

"We want to put on a good performance, so I'll be ready. I'm sure everybody else in there will be. We're looking forward to it."

I believe we should have gone in for him last August but i still would be delighted to see him come in and to be honest is exactly the sort of player we should be looking at if we are to make a decent fist of coming back up.

The source (tribalfootball) isn't the greatest but we'll see.

Ooooo he can score loads in the the scottish 2nd division, if we're serious about going back up even suggesting we sign him is farcical.

Nowt wrong with Doris, its the shyte hoofng from Bozo and lack of passing ability from the midfield that gives our front line no chance of scoring. But that will be fixed next season when bozo sits on the bench in manure.

I would not mind Alan Lee from Ipswich, maybe we could do a swap, Hendo for him.

Lee has knocked in 17 goals this season and I was very imptressed with him last time we played Ipswich. He is not unlike Hendo, but I think he is a better finisher.

Personally I think Hendo will prove all of his critics wrong next season. Gavin Mahon on the other hand... lol.

Alan Lee was completely useless for Cardiff, whereas Ernie was knocking them in for fun. Doris is a MUCH better player than Lee.

IMO Paddy is close to the truth (other than the Foster comment :) ), in that Hendo had terrible service and no support from his partner for the majority of the season.

healy would be a better signing imo, cheaper but will probably want prem football if he moves.
if aidy signs him we will know hes good as they've worked together. but as he hasnt gone for him before and denied looking at any leeds players in the winter, it looks unnlikely, i'll trust aidy with any leeds plyers

Thank god for that. However Healey is a decent player and Aidy could well relish the opportunity to get Healey's leaue career back on track.

Didn't Adie say earlier in the season that he wasn't interested in Healy because he was too old and not hungry enough?

Let's be realistic for a moment... If we already have Marlon, Tamas, Hendo, Moses, Hoskins and Kabba, then there is no way in hell that we are going to get any ESTABLISHED striker in unless one or two of our more senior strikers leave (Hendo or Kabba) OR Moses and Hoskins are loaned out, and with what Aidy says about Hoskins role in next seasons campaign I don't think that'll be happening. Unfortunately I have a bad feeling we won't be seeing any new strikers in the summer :( hope i'm wrong though!

Kabba is on his way out, mark my words. Boll*cks was he injured vs Man City, whilst Moses will go out on loan once he's recovered from his broken leg.

I tend to agree with Chewy - Kabba won't be in AB plans for the start of next season unless he bucks his ideas up and stops flapping his hands around like coco and bozo and crying when he doesn't keep control of the ball.

I'd love to have a player like Earnshaw, but i can't see it, If we had Priskin, King and Earnshaw that would be a very nice choice (and Henderson who will hopefully recapture his form next season). Hoskins should also prove useful, most sides challanging for top need 5 good strikers and we should have that

I remember a quote from Aidy a couple of weeks ago just before King was coming back and he said something very close to "goalscorers make all the difference, as we have found out to our cost this year".

Also, don't forget that Aidy pretty much signed Kabba as a last minute buy as he couldn't get the better quality striker he wanted at the time in John. This suggests that when Kabba goes he might be on the look out for another top striker again as a replacement.

The timing of this article is also interesting, with Aidy saying after the Sheffield game I think, that unlike last season they have a headstart on other clubs in trying to get players in and they were already trying to get players in before the transfer window re-opens.

I really hope this is true; I don't reckon it is impossible, My only worry would be competition from other Premiership clubs, though it's strange that noone went for him in January.
