Oh come on, really? He's played what, 11 games in this country, and you're writing him off? His best position has recently been at LWB - he plays there for Mexico and played there for the biggest club in Mexico. He came in at a bad time, when we started using 4 at the back much more regularly.

Yes, he's been fairly average since he came in, but don't quite a few players take a while to get used to the differences between countries? There's a reason it took half a season before we moved up the table under Zola.

I'm not completely convinced that he'll come to be a great player for us, but to completely write him off already as you have is ridiculous.

He's been fantastic in a couple of those games, too. Sure, not all of them by any means, but some of our best players started off by blowing hot and cold. He's adapting to a new country (a new continent, really), a new league and a new team. He's clearly got something about him. Give him time.

Nothing makes me happier than hearing that Forestieri played a blinder.

  7. GoingDown

More than a blinder. At one stage in the second half he seemed like he was our only player. Ball seemed attached to him with a string.

I'd go as far as saying it was one of the best individual performances of the Pozzo era.

The media don't report on us much cos we haven't been top of the table recently. Being top attracts attention. All those other teams have been top recently. Think we're fine to stay in second for a while!

Of course, bar the never come back bit I was genuinely angered to a point, and I immediately put him in his place by it and two others around me also said he was being a canut.

This may sound a bit strange but for me the pivotal moment came, when Reading got on top for a brief spell, scored a very good goal (great strike), and were taking the game to us, we looked ruffled and a bit disorganised to be honest. Jokanovic, then stopped their momentum by breaking play up with a substitution - as soon as Angella came on, we restored our authority and we didn't have to wait too long for Fessi to score the goal his performance warranted and totally kill the game off. Well done Slav'.

I have always been proud to support Watford - even when we were falling down the league's like somebody whose parachute had not opened - yesterday endorsed my love for this football club - the unity showed wishing Nic a full recovery, made me close to bursting with pride - Well done everyone involved with Watford FC!

From what I've read on the Reading forums, it seems he played a weakened side with lots of youngsters in it. I imagine he doesn't want to hang them (or himself) out to dry by acknowledging how poor they were. But really, who cares what he said? I do find it perplexing how, after we win 4-1 and move to 2nd in the table, so many on here focus their energy on being outraged by what the opposition manager said/what the media did or didn't say etc etc. It seems some aren't happy unless there's something to moan about. Just enjoy the moment.

Probably the easiest game out of the way. Certainly a good time to play Reading and while you should never be disappointed winning 4-1 I did feel we coasted a bit too much. Maybe conserving energy for more difficult games to come. Happy that we're not getting the press coverage despite being second. The thing I like about us in the last two months is the ability to play different formations so easily. Must make scouting us almost impossible. Fair play to Reading fans who came along knowing they would make a lot of changes and also for standing up and joining in the tributes. Worth noting that Bournemouth did the same as well. Wonder if Wolves did. Strange how when players lose a bit of form people jump on the bandwagon and say they're rubbish no matter how they perform. I thought Pudil had a very good game and played a part in the fourth goal. He's not been great this season hence being dropped but credit where it's due. While on this subject, I find it staggering Layun gets the stick he does, one putting him in the Neuton bracket. This is a guy who has yet to play in the role that has made him a hero in Mexico, is living on a different continent yet we write him off. Who knows if he will become an important player for us but let's give him a chance. To be fair he has played a lot of games since joining and in that time we've probably amassed more points than anybody.
On to Wigan now, who despite being 2nd from bottom will give us a much tougher game than Reading but still think we will win again. In fact I believe this will be our year and reckon we we might even win it

having started watching watford from the early sixties when we were an established lower league side a win was greeted like a world cup win reaching the old second division was something no one dared dream of --well until ken Furphy came along even then we had our fair share of moaners the support the horse and cart comment from Ken was aimed at those who stood in the Vic end and moaned at scullion if he did not produce a wizard run culminating in a goal I know nostalgia is a thing of the past but we are now an established UPPER LEAGUE club on the verge of something that the club has builtto maintain that dream, gone are the days of the local Butcher being chairman and local businessmen being Directors it is a global franchise game blah blah blah let us moan when another Jim bonser comes along and hires Derek Payne as manager and we plummet the leagues let us just enjoy the ride and think of teams like Hartlepool on the verge of falling out of the league bet they would trade places with us but it would not be democratic to deny those who pay their money to have their say they will be the same fans who moan if we go to the premiership and the price of a cup of tea rises ( let me be the first to start a petition for the price of Tea to be ring fenced and why do they keep teh P.G TIPS in the safe and serve us tesco own brand) Oh well going to fill my cup up it is half full.

Outrage? It was just an idle comment on the opposition manager making a t1t of himself. It's you that needs to stop moaning.

Not been through the thread, but I think the ref deserves a mention who was superb yesterday. Did not have any big calls and credit to the players, but thought he let the game flow and did not bring attention to himself.

Could not believe the way Clarke moaned at a Lino over a throw in

Agreed. There were a couple of minor calls each way which he might have got wrong, but overall, the fact that he's not been mentioned so far is testament to the fact that he did a decent job.

The early goal really helped settle us and took all the pressure off

Probably the best game Forestieri has had for us over 90 ( well 88 ) minutes. When his in that form his unplayable.

We seemed to lose some momentum when Layun came on. His not ready for championship football at the moment, his clearly struggling to settle into the pace and competitiveness of the league.

very happy, but we need to win the next two games to take some of the pressure off the Derby and Boro games.

I hardly think that a post on a forum means that they are "focusing their energy on being outraged". These people may have traveled for miles and spent a lot of money watching the game, or like me, sat all afternoon on the edge of my seat listening to Marks on the radio.

For me, part of supporting a "small" club like Watford is the sense of pride I get when doing well, and that mostly comes when that is being recognised by others. So I care what others say about us, in the papers, on the TV, by other fans, and by other football people.

Having said the above, there is an advantage, I think, of "being under the radar" right now, so I am fairly relaxed about us not being talked about too much.

Very comfortable and professional job done.

Only down side was the Abdi injury but then FF came on and gave one of his best performances in a Watford shirt.

Very good goals and generally a solid enough afternoon in defence.

Midfield worked very well although Layun had a bit of a tough time - needs more time to settle in.

  27. Yep - mentioned as much in my blog - gave us an extra body at the back to allow us to keep the ball. Thought we lost alot of momentum when Guediora went off, Angella coming on helped reverse that.

edit: I think Layun will be better in the Prem where he has a little more time. Toszer too

Well, I guess I'm just lucky then that my sense of pride in Watford doing well is not at all dependent on any of those things you mention above.

We've won more matches than anybody, and traditionally the team that does that finishes as champions, so there's no reason we can't aim to finish top.

Realistically, neither us nor anybody else is going to win all their remaining matches. Statistically that's unlikely. Norwich had won 5 in a row then came a cropper against Wigan. Our recent pattern has been to win 3 in a row, then lose or draw the next. So I still believe we'll have a banana skin or two before the season is over. (and maybe a win we weren't all expecting). If we have to have a banana skin, frustrating though it would be, I'd rather it was against a lower opponent. For example, to lose at Wigan but then beat Derby and Boro wouldn't be the end of the world.

We've often debated on here about our squad and whether it's the strongest in the division. I wasn't so sure. But having seen how, for example Derby have had a bad run without Martin (and Bent), and seen how we lost our leading scorer Ighalo only to watch Vydra come in and get 4 goals and Deeney to score in five consecutive matches, is making me re-think things! To lose Abdi yesterday was a huge blow (pray he's back fit for the Derby-Boro matches) but then Fessi comes on and was possibly man of the match. If we play just 2 central defenders, we're now in a position where Angella has a rest yesterday but can come in on Tuesday. So there is a decent strength there. The player I'd be most nervous of getting injured in the run-in now would be Gomes.

The whole squad seems to peaking at just the right time, and certain key players too. For all his great efforts in the past, Deeney had never scored in 5 consecutive matches until yesterday. Amazing now to think just two months ago he wasn't getting goals and there were calls for him to be dropped!

    I think you are.

Millwall singing "nobody loves us and we don't care" are probably proud of their club as well.

I just prefer my own sense of pride at Watfords achievements to be agreed/endorsed by others who have no tie with the club. That is one reason why I don't want us to cheat.

He was dropped, wasn't he? He said that he respected the decision, but didn't like it. Then came back fighting and scoring ever since(I think).
