That was a quality win, really happy about the response after the Liverpool showing. We were attacking really well, if it wasn't for a quite solid Foxes defence and a couple of barely failed chances (Pereyra's header comes to mind), we would have won that game with 3 or 4 goals. The fact that we escaped with only 1 goal allowed though is something of a blessing, Britos had a terrible first half (and yes, the penalty was absolutely justified, Britos got nowhere near the ball on the replay) and Mahrez had Zuniga completely mugged off. If Leicester had been smarter they would have exploited that weakness. That being said, Prodl played another blinder and Kaboul was much better this time around. Britos really came back the second half as well, he was vital in the last 10 minutes. His yellow card was ridiculous. Janmaat is absolutely top quality, I don't know what they were doing wrong up in Newcastle but he's got so much class and played in some beautiful balls today. Amrabat is blindingly quick, good strength too just needs to put in better balls. If he had played a proper through pass to Deeney that time in the second half Deeney would have put it away no problem. Capoue was much better today and had a great goal, if somewhat lucky on the bounce. Behrami looked decent too, but was quieter than Capoue today. Pereyra had a beauty and played a quality game as part of a top three, although it still irritates me that he isn't played in the middle where he's most useful. Good change of formation today, it worked for the most part and most importantly allowed Amrabat to be relieved of his defensive duties, at which he is not proficient. And I think we should all take a moment to thank the stars that Ighalo was dropped, which I am certain helped us in those early attacks to get the necessary goals.
Thought we did well today. They didn't have many chances of note and bar a silly challenge from Britos, that was another clean sheet. In fact, I think we might have won 3 or 4 nil if their penalty wasn't awarded. We looked very much in control until that happened, at which point we got visibly nervous. Beautiful goals from us. Stonewall penalty, but one that shouldn't have happened - Britos had no reason to make that challenge at all, and Vardy was 100% looking for it. Britos was magnificent in the second half, though. Mahrez made a shocking, shocking dive just outside the penalty area when contesting with Britos. There was at least a foot of clean air between them and yet Mahrez went down looking for something. How he wasn't carded is beyond me. Nice work by Wally. Once again, the club's decision for a change of head coach has been proven right. He switched things up, dropped out of form players and made sensible changes (none of which we saw under QSF in the second part of the season).
Agreed. I guess the test will come when we're as good as safe. Somehow I can't see Walter taking his foot of the gas though
Hey. Appreciate your nice words. I actually posted just now. It was 1986. Sorry I've not been online much lately. I wasn't lying low after the 6-1 I promise!! Just had a lot going on. I hope all my friends on the forum have been keeping well since I was last here.
Deep joy! Well played to Walt for changing it around and strong performances from all involved, some were running on empty at 80 minutes. Very pleased for Bobby P,lovely little piece of skill in the first ten minutes by the LGT as well as a wonder goal an assist and close with the header. A quality player for sure. Certainly a penalty and well done to Britos for recovering mentally to play a great second half. Prodl is having a very, very good season. Vardy is difficult to like really, repellent little ****. Walt promised a reaction and it's fair to say it was delivered. Did I see a fox outside the Hornet Shop?
They managed to spend a tonne of money over the summer whilst: - Losing their best player - Not improving their defence and midfield - Signing strikers who seemingly can't play together
Glad you're back Malt! I can't speak for everyone but life looks a lot cheerier tonight than it did after Liverpool!:sign15:
Two excellent goals and an excellent response to the Liverpool game. Leicester put on the pressure towards the end without ever really looking like scoring. Like the new formation and good to see Capoue, Behrami and Pereyra back to form. Looking good so far under Mazzari. Enjoyed the Leicester Where's Wally competition
I thought Zuniga was excellent, he's better on the left than the right it would seem. It'll be interesting to see if he keeps his place against Stoke with Holebas available.
2-1 win against champions Everton, I remember it well. I never thought we'd see days like those again, yet here we are.
My 2 cents.. - Great reaction to the fingering we were on the end of at Liverpool a fortnight ago. - Credit goes to Alec for mentally preparing the players, and for deciding to play one up top today. Good decision indeed. - Pereyra played v well today. How he not only kept managed to keep hold of the ball but diddle 3 Leicester players in the run up to our first goal was a thing of beauty. I still have to pinch myself when I think that a player of his quality is playing for us. - Excellent half volley from Capoue. Those are v difficult to save. - V poor from Vardy and Mahrez. Thought they did little more than throw themselves about and look for a penalty to be honest. Disappointed as they are both talented players, and I don't think there's any need for them to play like that. - Dreadful refereeing. He bottled a number of decisions today. How about when one of the Leicester players (who had come on only minutes before), span one of ours around and threw him to the ground when he was off the ball AND the whistle had already been blown?! Not even a booking either! Simply mind boggling that clowns like this are allowed to officiate. - I like the look of Okaka. For such a big guy, he is surprisingly nimble. - Can't see a way back for Ighalo at the moment. Okaka should be 2nd choice now, as he did more on the pitch in 5 mins than Ighalo has done in a long time.
That was our quickest goal in the P.L. Can someone remind me when/if we have ever scored a quicker goal
Not sure I agree with that, he looked terrified every time Mahrez ran at him and needed Britos or Kaboul to bail him out several times. I think Holebas is a better all around player and probably would have better stood his ground. I think somebody else posted about it, but what a ridiculous dive from Mahrez when Britos was several feet away from him. Shameful really, apparently you need a diving school certificate to win the Premier League these days.
Being a WFC is not good for my heart, at home we have spent all of 3 mins in front by more than one goal (at the end of the Man Unt game and today before their penalty) no one said it would be easy, but hanging onto one goal leads whilst great when it works isn't good for my health! I look forward to not watching us play on tender hooks!
Think we scored against Millwall after about 10 seconds in the 90s! Dennis Bailey also got a quick one against Southend around the same time. Really was a great team goal too - probably won't get any credit though.
Hey, it's all about opinions fella. I though Zuniga looked very solid defensively although not as effective as Holebas going forward. Apart from scoring the pen & a couple of ridiculous dives Mahrez did absolutely fek all for 90 minutes.
Danny Graham scored inside 20 seconds against Middlesbrough a few years ago I recall. Dodgy back pass I think which he ran on to.
To win at home against the 'Champs’ – and, yes, we have to accept that, for the moment, that is what these upstart **** droppings are – is one thing, but the fact that our win will upset ‘Jug-Eared-C@n t’ Lineker, makes this, in my view, our finest EPL day.
This was by far our best performance since the Man Utd game, still a bit to be done but the defence were pretty solid. Kaboul had his best match in a yellow shirt, Amrabat's confidence has grown considerably as the season has gone on. I felt that Deeney had a much better game and I don't think it's a coincidence that the exclusion of Ighalo has removed the shackles from Deeney and the rest of the team somewhat. As someone else has said in this thread it may be a long time before Iggy wins a position back in the starting eleven. As for Leicester, it was shameful the number of dives they did and not a single one punished by the ref, who I thought was far too weak overall.
ESPN has awarded Pereyra's goal the honour of Play of the Day, and rightfully so. I can't stop watching the replay.
Couldn't agree more we had 11 players out there playing their hearts out trying to win the game, I think when Iggy plays other members of the team get disheartened because the ball often doesn't stick with him and it comes straight back at them, with him just shaking his head, well done Massari for dropping him I think that made the difference today!
Back in the 1960s when I was a regular user of mind-altering drugs, I recall Almen Abdi scoring directly from the opening kick off. The shot was clocked at an average speed of 80 mph and travelled 60 yards to the goal, meaning it hit the back of the net in just 1.53 seconds. Must be the winner? Sadly, we went on to lose the game (I believe we were playing the German national team) due to a last minute David Perpetuini own goal.
Great goal but not good enough for MotD. Watford are 3rd last in the running order. Lineker is such a sore loser.
I thought Behrami was excellent today. He seemed to be everywhere winning challenges - he's got a serious set of lungs. Amrabat once again was fantastic. He causes nightmares for any full back. Deeney put in a real shift up top and his assist for Capoue was lovely. Difficult as a lone striker but I thought he did well. Not so sold on the passing of our midfield or Kaboul though.
Some of our short passing and balls out from the back were shocking. But great determination and we could have scored more. Happy for the team and sets us up for the next run of games. Still not convinced about the balance of the midfield though. Onwards and upwards...
Let Peyreyra run around a bit, and have a little fun, and wow look what happens. Let Capuoe run around a bit, and have a little fun, and wow look what happens. Fair play to Mazzarri for having the big ones to drop Ighalo, shake the team up, and let a very talented midfield enjoy the party. I for one very much enjoyed todays game. Oh, and Behrami was at his very best today
If I recall correctly Tommy Mooney scored against Millwall after 13 seconds - off Casey Keller's face. It was on one of Danny Baker's Own Goals & Gaffs video. Craig Ramage's goal against Spurs in the cup (6-3 game) was pretty quick.
Kind words from Ian Wright on MotD. Focused on Pereyra and said it was good to see Watford being able to sign quality players from Juventus for £13m. Lineker had to wipe a tear from his eye and Wright even went on to say he'd laugh if Leicester got relegated this year. Me too Wrighty
