I believe we still have a £13M-ish option to buy is in place, it was only the goals thing that was removed. I suspect he wanted a loan initially to cover himself on the off chance we got relegated. As with Clevs.
Exactly, he's just being "in character" for the radio. In real life he's probably nothing like he appears. And as you say he does know the game well, better than most of TalkSport's ex-pros IMO
As I recall the deal with Niang, I thought he was objecting to a loan and wanted an outright sale. Could be wrong tho!
Rules is rules. Everyone else gets booked for making physical contact with the crowd, so why not Niang? It's utterly stupid, even if you haven't been booked earlier. One mis-timed tackle and you're off. Players should get a heavy fine for being booked for that, and an even heavier one if it results in them getting sent off. Arguably a booking is too draconian a penalty, but maybe not if it incites trouble in the crowd.
I think the fact that several other of our players joined him in his celebration with the crowd helped the situation as Michael Oliver could not book all the players although I bet he wishes he could!
Did someone not post the actual rules a few pages back and it doesn't actually say anything about not celebrating with the crowd? It says you can't scale the permiter fence (aka Deeney against Leicester) but Niang didn't?
GoingDown#286 should assist you with the rules here. But I agree it's 'a hostage to fortune' as often players do get booked (and two yellows make a red) for exactly that. But give Niang a break eh? 22 y.o. Just arrived from A.C. Milan. First goal (and a cracker) for the club. Michael Oliver gave him a break. Why can't you? Anyway, it looked to me like he was exciting the crowd rather than inciting it. Maybe his friends and relatives were right there. And he didn't go straight over the top of the barrier like Troy did when his friends and relatives were there (in almost exactly the same spot). Now when was that?
Fair enough. I was just 'having-a-go' for the sake of it really. Hardly ever listen to the bloke. Must have been that second bottle of claret ...
Yes, GoingDown is right, but it's a fine line and most seem to get booked. I take the point about the perimeter fence. But I don't agree that exceptions should be made if a player is young, making his debut, scored a cracker or whatever. Once you start allowing that kind of discretion, where do you stop? He's got 100 caps, he contributes a lot to charity, he plays for Man U which is a great club?
The point is that the ref. did exercise his descretion and you're not. Do you think that refs shouldn't have any discretion at all in which case we might as well have a black robot out there? Should every decision be prescriptive? Fair enough though, there are fine lines to be drawn between prescription/consistency and discretion and where each is appropriate.
I wonder if players ever get booked for that kind of thing in Italy though? I'd imagine they'd be more lenient on that kind of thing... maybe Niang didn't even really know of the rule yet.
One of the acts included on the proscribed list of celebrations earlier in the thread is inciting opposition fans. Can't remember ever seeing anyone sanctioned for that, in spite of having to put up with the very obvious gesturing from the likes of Wilson, Nugent and the odious Bircham in front of the Rookery.
Yes , but in my opinion it wasn't a sending off , for the reasons I stated. This is a forum and thereby a canvas for people to express their opinions. But thank you , for keeping your response brief and concise, for once. Unusually, I was able to read one of your of your posts from beginning to end without feeling the need to chew my arm off in anxious reaction to the sheer wall of inane verbosity that your self indulgent posts generally incite in a reader.
And Allan Nyom at the Baggies? Mind you, our lot had given him way o.t.t. stick all afternoon. Looking back now, that was actually quite funny although it didn't seem so at the time. But it was blatant and went on for some time and no booking ...
