Watford FC 2-0 Burton Albion - 07/01/2017 - FA Cup 3rd Round

Discussion in 'Match Day' started by Ghost of Barry Endean, Dec 5, 2016.

  1. Who do we want? Someone crap at home or geographically close. Not Luton. The potential downside of a loss, however inprobable, far, far, far outweighs the potential and probable upside of beating them.

Agreed. Plus all the damage they'll cause to our nice shiny stadium. It's why they can't have nice things. Well, that and because they're ****e so can't afford it.

One of Barrow, Oxford, Rochdale, Port Vale, Cambridge, Sutton or Shrewsbury away will do.

Got it in my head that we will get Accrington Stanley away, but will prob be a crap draw at home like hull. I would love luton at home as there are fans who have never seen us play them, their players would care more, they would sell out if we gave them the whole vic end, it would nice as we have not played our real rivals and they have not played their real rivals for a decade, I think, no matter what people try and make our new rivals, it will always be them, the main reason I am a Watford fan is because of the memories of playing them in the early 80s and the buzz of going to their ground on Boxing Day and I will always be thankful to them for that !

    100% this.

How can anyone hope for anything different?? We would eclipse the 4-0 and then some! And regardless of the rivalry, it's a guaranteed pass into the 4th round.

There are quite literally no downsides, apart from those horrible cloggers injuring our players I suppose.

It's going to be Palace away. I can't believe some people here are acting like it won't be.

Decent away fixture that won't be moved for BBC or whoever shows the cup games - Brentford, Brighton, Bristol City, Fulham, Leeds, Norwich, Forest, QPR, Wednesday, Oxford, Cambridge, Charlton/MK or Luton.

Usually I'm quite happy to either visit a ground I've not been to before, or see a team that I haven't seen before - preferably outside the same league we are in.

So, if we were to get a home tie, I'd take any League One, Two (except Luton) or Conference side, or Barnsley, Blackburn, Bristol City, Rotherham or Burton Albion.

Same again for the away ties, except Luton, although the further south, the better. I don't think I fancy traipsing up to Oldham or Blackburn in the cold of January.

If we were to end up being drawn against a Premier League side, I'd much prefer Liverpool or Everton away, as I like going up there (obvious exceptions to the above point).

Of course, none of this has any influence on the outcome of the draw, sadly.

what is your reason for not wanting to get luton? Fear of losing? just not wanting to be anywhere near those *****? something else? Genuine question, I'm just curious.

I think it would be good for us to draw them. The rivalry is (naturally) at an all time low. Some of our younger fans probably have no real feelings towards them one way or the other all. A tie against those mutants would soon change all that. People need to be reminded what a sorry shower of ***** they are.

Those orcs descending on the Vic in their hordes and then returning to mordor after receiving a sound thrashing would be a thing of true beauty.

I think there's probably a little of everything in there. If we lose, we won't hear the end of it (which is nothing that a thick skin won't solve, but even so), plus the inevitable meltdown on various online platforms. Also, someone else mentioned in the thread thatm if we were to wallop them soundly, they might take their petulant anger out on our stadium or the local area.

I mean, an away game there might be okay, but is there any substance in the rumours I have heard that, last time we played them, the Police insisted that away fans could only travel via official coaches? Or did I get that wrong? If that's true, then it just adds an extra inconvenience onto my journey.

Fair dos, I agree with everything you say and I know if we did draw them the week leading up to the match would be horrendous. 2002 is still fresh in my mind. But we are so much better than them now, literally leagues apart, we'd surely obliterate them. And who knows when the next chance to draw them in a cup will come along, they probably wont make the 3rd round for another decade or more!

I'm not sure about the away travel thing, but it sounds about right.

We've only played them 3 times since our League 1 promotion in 1998 and even then, most if not all fans below the age of 16 or so won't remember them and may even be perplaxed as to why we hate them, other than geography.

I don't think I could trust the majority of our players to get sufficiently motivated to win that game. Half the time it seems they can't be bothered in the Premier League, let alone in a cup game against our hated local rivals. It would be great to smash them, but I don't trust this lot to do it.

So MK Dons Away (as long as they beat Charlton), Oxford away, Cambridge away, Northampton away. Any of those will do. But we all know it will be a deeply uninspiring tie at home to perhaps Rotherham or Barnsley (which we win 1-0 in a turgid borefest).

If we where to get L***n at home, I hope all that glass affront our lovely new Hornet's shop is properly insured, because for sure it would have to be replaced on the Monday.
Would not fancy having to go there either, if it is true that they are only allowing us to travel on club coaches. I live in Leighton Buzzard and can get the number 70 from almost outside my front door to very close to their shack. also it would be free because I have an old git's bus pass.
Would not want to have to travel to Watford after the match and then get train back to Leighton, because it would take too much time, and it is necessary to have a few beers, and grab fish and chips in time to take home to watch MOTD.

Mmm, can also remember what it is like to lose to that bunch of horrors, and I am not sure that I would trust the present coaching staff not to look at it and decide to put out a "reseve" side.
However first team out and give the scummers a lesson on how to play footie, then yes please, bring it on.
