My point is that we actually have a very good team already, but we couldn’t improve it much in the transfer window so it was all doom and gloom. All the players you list are very good players that we already had but a lot of us took for granted.

What a game. Controlled it from start to finish. Superb. Atmosphere was awesome.

Just read all the morning pre-game posts on this thread. Especially those from after the teams were announced.

Glad the lads proved you all wrong. They deserve massive credit tonight.

And Pereyra, when we signed him it was like oh my god we’ve signed Peyrera, but then he flattered to deceive a little to start with and everyone was slightly doubtfull. Fast forward to the end of last season/start of this season and he really is the real deal. What a blessing it is to have a player like him Playing for us.

    Enjoyed being there yesterday.

442 worked, who would have thought it?!

Brighton were very disappointing and didn't pose a threat at all.

Well for one thing, many here, including myself, have rightly and regularly slagged-off his delivery from set-pieces, so his quality at them today was certainly a welcome surprise for me and something which I hope he can repeat.

I was impressed with Success yesterday. Only 15 mins, but he showed some good signs. I wonder if he could be our new striker?

That's true, but he's looked so off the pace in the last season or two that I was starting to wonder if his initial promise was just a hallucination.

    Oh thank you.
I thought it was RP's tribute to Cameron 'Crocodile Man' as we used to call him before he went to Broadmoor.
He made that gesture from the very front of the Vicarage Road End,years ago at the Wrexham fans I think? This was before he threw a vending machines through a Swedish window.
I saw Isaac walking up Vicarage Road at 5.30pm yesterday, presumably with his agent. I wished him luck for the season.
I couldn't help think how quickly he had warmed down and showered.
No Baileys that I could see!

We played like a side that had been well drilled. The work rate especially really impressed me, led by a much leaner Deeney.

Javi's greatest achievement I believe is to get Capoue to focus. He's outshone Doucoure since the new year, and I think Chalobah will struggle to break into the side if we continue with 4-4-2

Kab and Cathcart both handled Brighton's attack with ease. Cathcart especially showing himself to be our best centre half in my opinion.

Finally I thought Foster looked very assured. Some debate as to whether he's a better keeper than Gomes, but what can't be denied is his distribution is on a different level.

Yep I must agree with this and am as guilty as anyone of the doom and gloom.

But I do still wish we'd signed a striker. An injury up top will shaft us.

I agree but it does also depend if Success can step up, it he can deliver on the potential he showed in the past he'll feel like a new signing. Plus if Deeney is fit and back mentally.

Didn't know where to post this, but is there a rota for match previews? I know there was a post last season asking if people were interested in forming a rota but I haven't seen anything about it.

And Chris Houghton said that too..

Although MOTD did give the impression it was quite even.

I presume Pereyra must have a little kid who likes that song?

I think he would really appreciate it if we can get that song to work ......assuming that's what he was acting out !

  26. I watched the match and the later wrap up on NBC - they told it like it was. Us totally superior, Brighton well off the pace.

One big question mark for me yesterday was Javi’s outfit. Very much evening wedding guest rather than PL manager. Although I guess we’re still in wedding season so he could’ve been shooting off to one straight after the final whistle.

Its the inane dribble that passes for supposed insight, analysis & punditry between the game highlights that does my head in. It's poor irrespective of which ever teams they are talking about but does seem to hit a low when we're involved.

I appreciate there time limits to the coverage the show can give but still they can do alot better than the 2 minutes of waffle about which word best described pereyras 2nd goal or some random highlighting of prodl blocking a player last season so that we could score a similar goal.

Superb performance from the lads, should have been three or four. We looked so organised and well drilled. Like most when I saw the line up I couldn't believe we had the usual suspects at full back but both of them were superb. Janmaat won a fair few tackles and Brighton could not get behind us.

We closed them down when they had the ball and severely restricted them attacking. Bobby P was just phenomenal throughout with a resurgent Capoue controlling the midfield. The top two were fantastic, it makes so much difference to see a forward actually move about and it caused no end of problems for Brighton.

We needed that performance just to settle the nerves.

Robbie Savage was accused of lazy punditry about watford on 606 last night.

His comeback was to say that yesterday was the first time that watford had played in stripes in the club’s history. When the watford fan tried to correct him, he cut him off and they went off to the wolves everton game.
