Doyley went to the bench, McGugan straight down the tunnel.

Dyer cups his mouth in his celebration. Although it was clearly a joke, doing so after causing a week of media speculating your boss is about to lose his job isn't an intelligent move.

I make my mind up game-by-game and although he scores 10 per season, he needs to buck his ideas up because he's currently a passenger. At no point have I said get rid of him.

Couldn't see what Dyer was doing, thought he was doing the shush either way I'm sure things are sorted between them now otherwise he wouldn't be playing.

McGugan can get ****ed, if he thought he deserved to stay on the pitch then he obviously doesn't expect too much from himself and isn't what we need for a promotion push.

Dyer is a weaker point, I just found it an incredibly thick thing for an experienced professional to do.

I've got nothing to say on that. What I do know is that there are quite a lot of other fans in this league (and indeed in the one above who watch the Championship) who rate McGoo. As others have said on here, he's good with other good players, but not when he's the best in a midfield trio. Today he was ****, pure and simple. No work rate, just a free kick and a brilliant shot onto the crossbar, that was it.

FWIW, as much as I've bashed him, he did a very good job vs Norwich with his work rate and was incredibly unlucky to be subbed off (although he did get replaced by Dyer who was better than him).

McGugan was probably half way to a night club in Nottingham by the time the final whistle went judging by the speed he went down the tunnel.

Dyer had a chance to show some class when he scored but failed by a long way to take it. He could've just raised an arm, George Best style, or even better rose above critique by running over and shaking Beppe's hand or making a show of peace.
The finger to the lips / hand over the mouth garbage just stirs it up and provokes more comment, when he had a chance to put conjecture to bed.

If he doesn't want to, then please leave the club ASAP.

That his match performance went downhill rapidly after that contrived "celebration" may be related.

The only fans who don't rate McGugan are the fans of the 2 teams he's played for.

Well that was a bit of a waste of timer and money - just got back!

No real standouts in the positive sense, but McGugan really annoyed me tonight - he wasn't any worse than Murray or Doyley, it's the fact we know what he has in his locker and yet he can still turn in a performance like that. The booing was idiotic when he was subbed, but he looked like he couldn't give two hoots as to how he played - he was the main culprit for their second goal, half-hearted challenge and then trot back into the area, allowing them a clear run on goal.

The way he sauntered off, ignoring his manager and going straight down the tunnel didn't help his cause one iota. Looks like the signs are he is trying to engineer a move away.

I'd say make McGugan train with the academy but no doubt he'd start a player revolt there too.

We looking very light on central midfielders ( certainly didn't see myself saying that 2 weeks ago )

Batty gone ( for now )

Murray officially a bit rubbish ,

McGugan not in the best place it seems and possibly wrangling for a transfer.

Andrews , seemingly decent back up but not first team material (although that could be being a bit harsh )

Leaving us just 3 first team midfielders Abdi, Tozer and Munari ......and hopefully one more in McGugan when he comes good .

Ok. I'll say it instead. He's the most arrogant player we have. If Cardiff or west brom want him, then let him go. We can get better.

But I get the feeling that rotation (and lots of it) is almost a religion with Sannino

I worded that terribly, I'd say our best 11 is the one we fielded against Leeds. The most we'd ever deviate from that is one or two players which isn't so damaging.

We sat way to deep. Andrews was playing pretty much as a centre back and could only pass backwards and sideways. The midfield 3 were lazy, not bothered about coming to collect the ball and making things happen.

Sannino will hopefully have learnt a lot from that. Also shows how important Toszer has become for us.

    Roll on Saturday.

We tried to play good football but found that we had no idea where anyone else was or what runs to make. Its not surprising as pretty much none of that team has played a significant amount of football this year. Looked like a team of strangers.

Second to every ball in a static, aimless midfield, Anya and Dyer barely tried to beat their men all night and our strikers were left with scraps and were always on slightly different pages when it came to final balls.

Donny wanted it more as they were playing a team in the League up obviously so they were giving it 110%. We didn't match their motivation and because our lot had barely played a game together the team didn't have the quality to overcome their lack of motivation either. Strangers playing with strangers, lost count of the amount of times somebody put a ball into a space on for the intended target to already be running in a another direction expecting a completely different ball.

Not surprised really. Andrews was bloody useless, that did stand out for me. Every pass was backwards or sideways and he didn't move anywhere. Such a counter productive influence.

I felt for Vydra, he picked up the ball very very deep which wasn't his game, and every time he did so he got kicked up in the air. Coupled with if he looked at team mates who clearly weren't ****ed about it, it's easy to see why after so little protection and others enthusiasm he could get disheartened.

On paper we have the best 2nd eleven in the league, but last night was pathetic.

Is Igloo the new Beleck? - didn't win anything in the air, couldn't hold the ball up. Vydra - injured or sulking? Non-existent midfield, shaky defence who hoofed the ball forward in the general direction of Igloo rather than relying on our midfield to take it forward. A infinite number of different formations, most of which were difficult to suss fro the stand and, it seemed, from the pitch. Magoo went straight down the tunnel when subbed. Horrible.

Surely it just comes down to the fact that most players don't give a crap about the League Cup. They're certainly not going to put their bodies on the line to win early round games. We can argue all we like that they should give a crap but the evidence year in, year out proves otherwise. And an attendance down 7,000 shows half the fans agree too. The whole competition needs revamping if you ask me.

Maybe. I think us being at home last night was pointless. Walking out on a half empty stadium can hardly get the players going.

  33. Prem and champ teams see the competition as a chance to extend the pre-season and try out some reserves, L1 and L2 teams see it as a chance to take a scalp and earn some unexpected money against a big team

I'm surprised we still get crowds of 7,000 to be honest for what is little more than a reserve fixture

What do you propose for this revamping? I'd like to see all teams enter at the same stage tbh, Premier league teams enter and two games later they're in a semi final. Maybe have the earlier rounds regional like the JPT? Like start with NE NW SW SE then end up with a Southern Final and Northern Final held at Old Trafford and maybe the Emirates? before one big final at Wembley for those winners.

UEA has a point - we're always rubbish at this stage no matter who plays.

Even with Deeney and FF up front and Abdi in midfield we'd probably still lost.

As Chamberlain said afterwards a few players failed to take their chance to impress and couldn't work out what the formation or tactics were supposed to be.

If some of those out there last night are the ones not happy about Sannino not playing them then they cannot complain if they aren't picked again.
