When I said “more recently”, I meant just in the relative sense. I’d been pondering for a while about taking up smoking before a colleague talked me right out of it in 2016. During the many years from my teenage years up to that point it had hardly even entered my head to take it up.

 

No. I might do that over a coffee.

I would say the down side of smoking was fairly widely publicised, even as early as 2016.

I gave up smoking in my early thirties but definitely gonna start again as soon as I turn 90

I tried smoking once in my uni days and it was utterly rancid. I've kept my body in peak physical condition by fuelling it regularly with whiskey.

 

I like to imagine there's one or two Southampton fans reading through this thread just wondering what the hell is going on

That’s got to be the biggest shock so far of the competition after it was shaping up to be a dull FA Cup. 98 league places between them, that's got to be up there for one of if not the biggest gap between the teams in a giant-killing (out of the top of my head, Sutton vs Coventry and maybe Burscough vs Gillingham are comparable, but both teams were at home). Ipswich battered Maidstone with 38 shots but Maidstone scored from both of the two they managed.

I didn't know what part of Kent Nath resides in until now - I thought this guy in a photograph I took of the Thames estuary from Northfleet might've been him (looked about the same age, seems the tough, no-nonsense type that Nath comes across in his posts and recentish call to R5 live and he drives a Merc). Well, Northfleet is 17 miles from Maidstone, so not that far out...

 

In 1980 Harlow Town were Isthmian League Premier, I think, when they beat Leicester (who were Div 2 at the time), before we knocked them out in the next round. I’m not sure how that would equate to today because there wasn’t a definite pyramid structure then.

edit: the Alliance Premier League (effectively the 5th division) was formed in 1979, so Harlow would have been considered below that.

In 2007-08, Chasetown of the 8th tier made round 3 (the lowest ranked team ever to do so at the time, not sure if Marine were lower when they got to round 3 a few years ago), beating League 1 Port Vale on the way, I don't know where they were in the table, but that might have been a bigger gap than today
