Don't worry. He's just another in a very long line for forum posters that likes to provoke a reaction for no good reason. This forum is infested with this type of person these days. Oh well.

Calm down serious brothers, I wasn't having a go at you.

I apologise profusely for the infestation.

Why are your posts so important but others so meaningless?

This time I was having a go.

My posts are there to be read and discussed if you so wish or just ignored. It's up to you. If you think they are important that's fine.

This forum thrives on little cyber fights and grudges. Of course I seem to be the focal point for all this, but really most just can't help having a little pop just for kicks.

Crickey I'm not a regular poster on here but have kept an interest as it was my turn to do the preview. The way some of you have been bickering over Easter weekend about a game of footie is unreal. Sure argue about formations and tactics or players and the head coach but all this bickering is surely a dedicated wind up. I mean no one is that sad to be up at 1am arguing after a win or on Easter Sunday on and off all day. Surely?

We will never know how we would have coped because we were good enough for it not to happen.

  13. I too believe we can do better. And I believe we would have done significantly better for not having lost Periera and Zarate, and if we had a consistent defense to choose from (even HB admits there is an injury crisis* for heaven's sake, if only we had a consistent opinion to choose from), and if we had had a consistent, fit, in form front line to choose from.

When we get the injuries behind us, there is every chance that you will see the type of performances your sense of entitlement so richly demands.

And please, next time there is an "At Your Place"/"At Our Place", can you please attend so that you can make your points above clear and to explain to Dux, or Walter, or Troy that the almost unimaginable injury list is no excuse for only achieving Premier League survival in mid table, possibly even contending for the top half?

I would like to be there to hear the silence, followed by the laughter, followed by the apology for saying it.

    * HB1 cannot be held responsible for his opinion and reserves the right to change it at his convenience, even in the same paragraph if he feels it is necessary to do so.

Oh dear......even in a reply to another poster he has to try to start something with me........yet again. 424 you are being pathetic. This obsession with me has got to stop as it's very unhealthy. I think you do need some counselling as you clearly have some issues, but here's something that will hopefully give you some happy thoughts.

If you can only express yourself with insults then I think it reflects more about you than me.

However, we'll see how many points we get after those 6 games then we can reflect on whether my comment was correct or not.

Not an insult, just a fact.

You react in the exact same pompous and oblivious way to any argument that is put to you. Whether it be entirely factual, an opposite opinion or even, incredibly, an opinion that lines up very closely with your own.

  18. hornetboy1

No insult this time? At least that's an improvement. But talk Watford......live up to your name. Why do you want, like so many, just to get into personal fights? But like I said, it reflects more about you than me.

I think by the end of the season we'll be a lot closer than 12 points clear of relegation. If I am wrong, and this would mean a dramatic change in team performance, which has not been prevalent all season, then I will heap praise on the team and coach for doing it.

If Watford close out the season strongly, then I will be amazed and delighted.

I'm fairly sure we will be closer to the bottom 3 at the end of the season but we are already past the safety line so limping over it is not possible. It's a tough end to the season but don't see why we can't get something at Hull, Leicester or Everton although Everton's home form is exceptional

  20. hornetboy1

I agree....it's just an expression I used. I think the final table will have that appearance to it and this is why I said it.

We could get something at Hull if we play well, but I don't hold out too much hope in the other games. But you never know in football, there's always the odd unexpected result.

Yet you said earlier that you believe that we are likely to lose all of our final five games despite the fact that we have lost no more than three games in a row at any point this season.

  22. Cassetti's Beard

    Cassetti's Beard First Team

We won't be limping over the line, even at our very worse this season we've managed 2 points from 6 games and considering how bad Swansea are, I think we'll finish at the very least 6 points above relegation.

No wonder these threads end up in such a stupid argument. If someone is going to respond to, or have a go at, a poster, why cant they actually respond to something they have posted rather than something completely different?

When you choose to do just that, I'll respond, maybe.

Yes......I do believe this is likely. Not sure what your point is though.

The fact we've not lost more than three is irrelevant. Just because it's not happened before does not mean it wont happen. You have to look at the final five fixtures. Have we had a run of fixtures with that degree of difficulty at any point this season? What is the most likely result in each if you take them individually?

Hold on, Swansea are 12 behind with 5 games to go. If they lose on Saturday and we get a win or draw they can't catch up meaning we're mathematically safe, right? My brain is broken from a heavy weekend so my maths could be completely wrong.

Yes we have - The first 5 fixtures at the beginning of the season.
Bet you bet on us getting zero points from them too.

On paper, looking at form and opponents you'd say it's very possible we could end up with just 1-4 more points. But that's still fine, 44 points, clearly safe, about on par with last season. Maybe a little more stability going into next season with another improvement in the squad.

We're not taking them individually though are we? It is a run of five games with many variables to take into consideration. This team is too good to lose five Premier League games on the bounce regardless of opposition.

You said that you can't see us doing well in those games because it would mean a ''dramatic change in team performance''. Surely an even bigger change would be us experiencing an unprecedented sequence of consecutive defeats?

  30. hornetboy1

That's a fair point, although I did think we'd get a point at Southampton, but would likely lose the other 4. So I agree it is a fair comparison.

I think people are misunderstand the phrase "we are likely to lose" and confusing it with "we will lose". I'm not saying we will lose all of the final five, but I think we are likely to lose them all.

If we get 7 points from our final 5 (like the first 5) then I'd be amazed. But like I said anything is possible and you do get unexpected results.

  31. hornetboy1

You are heavily backing probability, which is fair enough and I do get your point. Personally I think we'll do very well to squeeze out another 4 points from this season.

We could get no more points this season - unlikely but there are some tough fixtures. Equally we will probably get another 3 or 4. Either way we have comfortably survived the notoriously difficult "second season" and will finish not far from last year's points and place. That during a season when we have had more than our fair share of injuries to important players.
I am not sure what some people expect. We are not a top London, Liverpool or Manchester club and cannot realistically expect to do better than them. Instead we will have done a pretty good job in finishing well amongst clubs that have greater support, resources and history than ours.
Personally I would like to see us develop further and start to compete for 7th or 8th place but if that takes a few years I can enjoy playing the top teams in the country week in week out while we grow as a club. Getting to the Premiership was one hell of an achievement, staying there year in year out is never going to be an easy task. Ask the supporters of many huge clubs in the Championship.

    Teams currently above us:

    Chelsea
    Spurs
    Liverpool
    Man City
    Man Utd
    Everton
    Arsenal
    West Brom
    Southampton

Every single team is significantly larger than us in all respects save for Southampton and WBA, and we're equal on points with Southampton (who have a game in hand on us) and have a game in hand on WBA while being 4 points behind.

You simply don't ride your luck to 10th in the Premier League over the course of 32 games. We might not have always been firing on all cylinders, but neither are most of the other teams in the league.

Saying there is room for improvement is rather pointless; there's not a single team in this league that can't improve in some fashion so it's a bit of a Captain Obvious comment. The fact that almost every team above us is an established Premier League heavyweight speaks volumes of the overall job the squad and club have done this season, which is our mere second in this league since promotion. Things are going well and there is every reason to think they'll continue to improve over time.

Exactly this - if our players fired on all cylinders every game, they wouldn't be our players

There are those that think we are in our ultimate position, with our existing squad. Whereas, I think we should be higher than our current position considering how few times we have played a really good game. That isn't pointless. You may disagree, but my opinion is as valid as yours.

I am talking about on the pitch performance, not how "big the club is". They only have 11 players on the pitch, the same as us. Plus, by most accounts, we have the largest team in the division (unless Deeney has been dropped, of course, in which case we have one of the smallest).
