Professional job, well done lads. Onwards we go- when is the QF draw? Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Tapatalk
Not defending him at all as I feel, like you, he had a poor match, but 6 second half subs at 30 seconds a time accounts for 3 minutes then there was the injury to the Leeds player (Taylor I think)
Had to listen on HP as on holiday but I don't think I heard 'Suarez' mentioned once.... How did he play ??
Leeds manager Steve Evans: "I think the performance was good. It was the cruellest way ever to go out of the FA Cup - it was a terrible goal to concede. We dominated the quality of the play until half-time. If you came here in the first half, you'd have thought Leeds United were the Premier League team. "Scott Wootton's in tears, he's apologised to every member of staff and he'll not sleep for days. "The time wasting [by Watford] was like something you'd see abroad, you don't want to see that in English football."
Happy! Listened to the second half on the way back from Bedford. Andy Townsend said we never needed to get out of third gear and deserved to win. 5L had an irritating habit of going over to the Reading game for large chunks which was frustrating, even allowing for the lack of bite from Leeds. Best moment was the very audible shout of someone in the SEJ saying 'Sit down you fat git' to Evans. He was jumping up and down and berating the 4th Official apparently!
Spare a thought for 4000 fans trudging back to Leeds having watched an hilarious OG cap a pathetically one-sided 'contest', in which their opponents made half a dozen changes and looked pretty half-arsed throughout.
Dominated play? What is Evans eating? Buckets of mouldy mushrooms? Poor game really, but it takes 2 to make a good one and Leeds set up for a draw whilst we rested a few Perfectly good goal disallowed, Oliver was shocking, absolutely shocking Watson had a blinder, Suarez comfortable, everyone was, we only ever looked like we were in 2nd gear The game was probably crying out for Jurado to break down their 11 man defence
Wow. I can't fathom the words to describe the delusion. I guess however it is a great way to describe Leeds in a nutshell; ****.
To be fair to Evans they were probably better than Villa are. But as for the comments about time wasting.. keeping the ball by passing it around is time wasting yes but perhaps he needs reminding his team need to win it back. One thing is for sure, he will never manage a premier league team.
Leeds were useless today, not a single decent player in their team these days That was a 4 or 5 nil win if we had our shooting boots on, good performance otherwise
Safely through to the quarter finals. The only thing that would make today even better would be if bournemouth were to miss a penalty
Not bad but didn't really do anything of special note. Looked a little off the pace defensively but improved in the second half with his forward passing. Watson , on the other hand , was superb. And I was one of those who were saying Suarez will,be replacing Watson.
At times I wished I'd been at the game if only to get away from those odious close-ups of frog-eyed Evans exploding at the referee for reasons best known to himself. As expected it wasn't a classic and the conditions were awful, which made for a bit of an error-strewn match, even from some of our better performers. Anyway not much to say really, disappointing not to get more goals but it was a pretty decent performance otherwise. Leeds were so negative, clearly intent on getting a replay from the start, and their play was slow and one-dimensional on the rare occasions they broke into our box, just wayward shots the wrong side of the post, yet their efforts were rewarded by what seemed more than a hint of bias from Michael Oliver and his merry men who did their level best to make sure the "massive club" were still in the game. Awarding a ridiculous 5 minutes of injury time and letting Leeds finish their goal attempt when those 5 minutes were long since up summed it up really! A woeful own goal to decide the game too, which wasn't even close to being a clearance (credit to Watson's sublime cross to set it up though, his set-plays have really come on by leaps and bounds of late), but hey we're in the last 8 with another favourite out so I'll take it. Thought Paredes was quite good, but then this was against a side 16th in the Championship and he showed why he hasn't quite earned a regular start in the rigors of the Premier League - positionally good when going forward and fine at the simple stuff, but crossing remains woeful, only amounting to anything if the oppo defence **** up and he still struggles with the physical side of the game. Abdi was disappointing - hate to say it, but with Jurado getting better by the game in his favoured position and Abdi's contribution becoming more marginalized, maybe he isn't the influential playmaker that we hoped he would be this season and beyond. Other than that, everyone else played at least quite well, particularly Holebas who continues to impress every time I see him (apart from Soton away, but then no one played well that night), in his defending, attacking and overall link-up play and well deserved his MotM award. With Ake pushing hard to retain his place, it's great to have such strength in depth in what has traditionally been a problematic position for us. Now bring on the Muff for our two-pronged push for success!
Cup run so far: 3 x one-nil wins, 3 x we've been the better team without being brilliant. All 3 goals resulting from defensive errors. 3 more games like that and we've won the cup!
Britos was my MOTM. Thought he shaded it from Holebas. Disappointing first half bar the first quarter of an hour. An early goal for us and they'd have been toast but without it it seemed the players took the fact we were creating copious chances as evidence they didn't need to do some of the basics. As a result a defensively resolute Leeds team limited us to lots of tippy tappy nonsense in the remainder of the first half. It wasn't a surprise to hear frustration boiling over in the Rookery just prior to half time as yet another move went no where slowly. Second half I thought we started purposefully. The OG only saved Leeds from the penalty Oliver clearly indicated he had played advantage for when Deeney was hauled down as the cross arrived at Wootton. After that we really should have mullered them. Some absolutely god awful and barely excusable finishing from us was the only thing that saved them. Leeds looked blunt going forward and the only way they'd have scored would have been via a mistake by us. Overall I thought we were too cautious first half. Our lack of width was painfully obvious and I thought Leeds contained us quite easily. Didn't think Amrabat was much cop but would like to have seen him stay on to form a front 3 with Troy and Iggy for the last 25 mins. Seemed a bit of a wasted opportunity to take him off just as the game opened up. And fook knows when Capoue will actually score a goal. I don't think I've ever seen more useless finisher at this level.
Not a great game against an organised Leeds side but the 2nd half was better and we got the win. Nice tidy finish too...
Wondering if Ben Watson having won the cup already is an omen. I think it would be funny to concede a late goal against Sunderland with a rested team (rested for cup final)to win 4-1 (amended), meaning they go above Bournemouth on goal difference. Then we beat muff in the final cos they are knackered from desperate and unsuccessful last day exploits.
I came away from the game thinking FFS how does Michael Oliver stay as a ref? Oh well through to the next round quite without really having to put too much effort in. Reading in the next round and of course no Vydra.
It's always good to win an officiated Michael Oliver match. It's adds to the challenge, and so far we've won 2 and draw 1, so even though he's probably one of the worst referees in the game today, he's actually quite a lucky omen, as incorrectly disallowed goals and soft penalties have never cost us. Even though we should have won by a bigger margin, it's still a bit of a concern how poor we are in front of goal. Too many players lack the quality and composure at key moments and today it kept Leeds in the game right until the last moment, when we gave away the customary chance to the opposition in the final seconds. Today was all about the result. A win and an upset or replay avoided to progress into the quarter finals. Our defence is outstanding and yet again it was an opponent, albeit a poor one, that never troubled us once. When you are so strong and solid at the back, it really helps to cover up the inefficiency in the final third.
Pretty convinced it was a penalty if the own goal hadn't occured. Deeney flattened and then had a word with Oliver afterwards.
Scott Wootton gleefully shins in Watford's winner......which was Watford's only on target effort all afternoon!!
Oliver clearly indicated advantage as the ball went in and immediately afterwards. Capoue. Think Holebas got our only shot on target.
Thoughts - Leeds were ****. We never got out of first gear. It could have (should have) been 4/5 - 0. Not sure why Capoue's didn't count & i've seen it since!
To be fair to Oliver, Capoue scoring a valid goal seems so utterly improbable that he wouldve disallowed it for breach of the rules of science, if not rules of football.
I'm still confused as to why Deeney was penalised when through on goal, was about to pull the trigger.
