These are the cannibalistic green bustards who bit off George Reilly's ear arent they? "He was a young guy, in his early 20s,” he recalls. “On this day we had some words and ended up rolling about on the floor. He was definitely on something. People are very unpredictable and very f------ strong when they take stuff. He said just one word: 'Plymouth'."
First game of the season for me, cannot wait. Will be interesting to see how we deal with a team in our face from the kick off.
Nice of us to give a local non-league team a kickaround yesterday, good turnout all things considered!
Will be interesting to see whether we can take our pre season form into the league. Can't see Ngakia or Bayo perform at all.
Really nice to be playing Argyle again after a few years gap. My Grandparents lived in North Cornwall and I used to spend some of my school holidays staying with them. They were both Argyle fans and I have many happy memories of us catching the coach to Home Park and watching the likes of Paul Mariner! Family loyalties were divided a bit in 1984 of course! More recently there was that lovely sunny evening in August 2005 when, after defeat in our opening match of the season under Aidy, we trailed Argyle 0-2 at Home Park a few days later only to get a 3-3 draw with Ashley Young announcing himself that night. And the rest that season was history! They will be dangerous opponents on Saturday, but we’ve been given some fortune starting the season with consecutive home matches, so let’s make it count.
That is brilliant. I've never really got into video editing but hats off to you, another superb one. As for the game, it's going to be a tense affair for both sides. Plymouth got off to a flyer by dispatching Colin's 'Udders yesterday and the travelling crowd will be up for it. We just need to keep our heads and try to get in their faces from the off. It's a game we are capable of winning, but also Plymouth have some trickly players, although they are a little suspect at the back. It's not going to be walk over like QPR and they will dig in and fight for every ball. Hopefully we can make it a sad travel back to Devon for their fans. As for the lineup, nothing yesterday suggests we should change anything, although maybe Asprilla for Sema? Bachmann needs to stop playing Sweeper because he is going to get lobbed sooner or later. Clear the ball and stay in the box. Bayo off the mark also, but if Healy gets a run out at Stevenage and performs well, VI might have to look at our attacking options. Watford 2 Plymouth 1
I've never been more sure of a home defeat. Never. Even Citeh. Promoted side, first day victory, momentum, bad time to play them. Over-confidence, "it's only Plymouth".... 1-2.
Nice preview. Always remember the 84 semi, I was 11 and lived in darkest Devon. We were out all day, Dad said I could stay up to watch the highlights on MOTD, so I kept away from the score all day. Some bloke almost yelled out the result in the pub we were in
A very different team to QPR. Confident In form Very positives outlook Score goals . But hopefully we can get an early goal/start on the front foot with our own confidence and morale. They probably won’t come to sit back so might be an open game . Bs nice to get some consistency at home this season - a winning one !
Yup. My dad was shouting about him all game and that was basically my response. Clear that Bachmann had been specifically told to play that role.
First Watford game I ever saw was at Argyle in about 1990 or 1991, so good we are playing them again. I do know that some of them still seem to resent us for the FA Cup match in 1984, a bit long ago now though! This will certainly be tougher than QPR and maybe give us a better idea of the real direction of travel this season.
He also found he had new neighbours in the seats next to him yesterday. The couple who were there have upped and left, despite the ‘see you next season’ chatter and being pretty regular away game travellers, and there’s an older woman and her son (?) there now. I had to nudge him a few times to shut him up, as her polite smiles suggested she wasn’t interested in his extensive thoughts about Bachmann being complete shiit. I wonder how long she’ll last?
I'm glad we're at home for this. Their record down there is absolutely ridiculous - almost 100% last season. Won't be anything like QPR. They were beyond dreadful and they should be very worried this season.
20 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats last season, even better than our home record during the Covid season, must be some sort of EFL record?
It was a good result for Plymouth yesterday afternoon but saying this I am not sure how good Huddersfield are, they improved slightly when Warnock took over last term. But they have since lost Holmes and Camarra to our friends in Italy, and haven't really replaced them. Although having said this I watched the brief highlights of the Plymouth vs Huddersfield game and Huddersfield did have some extremely good goalscoring chances which they didn't take. Plymouth looked energetic going forward but defensively didn't look great, they could have easily conceded 3 or 4 yesterday from poor defending and getting caught out playing out from the back. Luckily for them Uddersfields finishing was poor.
And of course our old friend Joseph Hungbo! Think Huddersfield might just stay up, but Warnock has tended to be better recently as a firefighter helping out clubs in crisis midway through the season than taking them on from the start of the season
You can hear the monkey noises from the Plymouth fans as JB accelerates down the wing - I suppose we have made some progress in the last 40 years.
After the excitement of Saturday, another fantastic display capped off by a couple of goals. 2-4 Plymouth.
Is it your dads voice in that kids Vlog from yesterday’s game? When Bachmann passes it to one of the QPR players towards the end of the Vlog, you hear some man shouting how **** he is.
These league cup games are coming thick and fast. Field the kids against this tin pot team and move onto round 3.
There were a few but not that many, they were genuinely a rare sight back then and there are still not that many even now.
Argyle fan here. I write a piece for Pasoti for each game called One Game at a time. It is a green tinted humourous piece or tries to be with some history of the opponents and the fixture. I’ll post a link We had the standard quotient of idiot racists for the time in 1984. On the other hand re not seeing a black person I can refer you to the Jack Leslie statue outside of the ground which celebrates the person of colour who played for Argyle and was selected for England but then quietly dropped and never picked again tough test for us next week. Bite your hand off for a draw although we have had some good wins at Vicarage Road. My second ever away game was 74/5 season.
I know about J L, but as I said people of colour were very rare. I lived in Peverell from 86 to 91 then in Lostwithiel Cornwall until 2017, so I am speaking from experience. As I said even up until I moved away Devon and Cornwall had a relatively low Coloured population in comparison to most of the UK
Most probably is. He is still going to get lobbed though lol. Maybe that danger is overridden by the benefits of him being the first defender rather than him passing out to one. Time will tell.
Will be a better test than QPR for sure. Mumba in partciaulr looks seriously dangerous and we won't be able to leave those huge gaps down the flanks. One thing I will say from the outrageously long coverage given to this game on ITV was that Plymouth look seriously open, and even at home to Hudderfield looked like they should have conceded 2 or 3 at least. Fancy a high scoring 3-2 home win.
