People are making predictions on when Ismael will be sacked. Of course it's a valid topic with Watford, however, I don't think he will be, unless we are in serious trouble of relegation.

The reason I say this, is because for the first time under the Pozzo ownership, we'll be signing players for a particular manager, instead of a coach coming in and working with what he's got. We've never done that before, as his style is so defined and radical, it needs a certain type of player to work it, which we don't have, even in small quantities.

So, the investment in playing staff for IV will be so vast (not financially, but numerically), that only a real car crash of a season would derail him (IMO).

Ismael is Manga's man, and that will become clear after the interview with AF today, so any doubts, or rumour spreading that it's Pozzo making the appointment over Manga, is unfounded.

So I believe we will sign a lot of players to suit Ismael's style, and we'll be so invested in him at that point, it forces the board to be patient with the manager.

Of course that's all supposition on my part. They hierarchy may not change their ways and sign who they like with little regard to the team, but I just don't think it will be like this. Manga will not tolerate it. Already, he's gone on record as saying, if the board interfere with how he does things, he'll clear his desk and walk (or words to that effect).

So I'm intrigued and a little excited as to how this is going to go.

 

You have more faith than I do HB1. I don't believe Pozzo is capable of doing anything other than player trading as he sees fit so wouldn't be surprised if Manga left during the season.

 

I agree, Pozzo has a lot to prove, but thinking this through logically, I believe he will let Manga get on with it.....for now at least. The test will be if things start badly, then I'm not convinced he wouldn't get involved at that point. How long he gives VI is also another thing to watch out for too. But I suspect if Gino interferes with Manga's way of working and his decision making, he would resign. This is the area I'll be looking at. If we see rumblings of Manga discontent, this is when I will start to be very concerned.

 

Depends when we play them. If it's not before the first international break we will never know......

 

I think Pozzo will intend to do this. However if after 10 games we are in the bottom 6, irrespective of what playing staff he has been given, he will be gone.

I want to believe he’s going to do well, and at least we’ve made some encouraging moves to remove the deadwood accumulated over the past 5 years, but it’s really hard to muster any enthusiasm because I can’t see VI being given any meaningful time to build something that gets him past Christmas.

Well argued, but we're still waiting for the influx of talented but under-rated newcomers. Could mean we actually give our Academy players a chance, though - well, those that haven't been poached by bigger clubs.

 

We’ll have a far worse team this season compared to last season, and last season three different managers couldn’t get a tune out of a better team, with one of them going on to get another side promoted.

If he gets us in the play off spots or better he’ll be a genius, if he doesn’t he still won’t be a bad manager, but he’ll still be sacked by October.

 

The time the manager gets will be the biggest indicator of whether Pozzo has realised his mistakes and is open to change. Unless we are in serious danger of bottom 3, then sacking Ismael at any point would be unforgivable given the poor squad Pozzo and his cronies have left him with. A 12th place finish would be a decent managerial accomplishment.

 

Interestingly, Benjamin Bloom has predicted that we will make the playoffs, he put us at 6th if I remember correctly.
