I don’t know why people think he would ever tell the truth about what he earns. He said he’s on less than £65k pw but I can see why he’d want people to think that.
I’m not plucking figures out the air here, or just believing the twittersphere.

As for the other factors you point out, it’s funny as that’s where I don’t have faith in the club to approach Deeney’s situation with such an all encompassing and progressive stance. They’re businessman and I think the money will be the deciding factor ultimately.

As Deeney@s wage is basically the same as Gray, who attributes nothing positive to the club off or on the pitch ,why is he always the scapegoat, on the whole watford achieve better results with him playing than when he is absent. people are always on about the big hoof up the field to Deeney , that's not his doing, its down to the lack of ability throughout the team , how many time do we pass it across the back four until a poor pass results in the defender punting the ball up field for Deeney to somehow singly handed beat 3 defenders to the ball , he is not the tallest forward so a ball to his feet would be a better option but we have not got players with the ability to create space which in turns means more time.

no one has mention the poor quality of Sarrs crosses , there is just criticisms of Deeney being not quick enough to convert them.

lack of goal from corners ,free kicks and shots outside the area probably had more influence of our relegation than Deeney

He deserves at the least the opportunity to run down his contract, do his media work and hopefully keep watford's already limited media attention alive.

    Quite. £100k a week isn't even remotely close to £75k a week.

I’m not trying to act like I’m anyone. I’m telling you info that is widely available about his basic wage. I don’t know about his bonus structure which I have already said - whatever his final take home wage is, no idea. Never claimed I did. I’ve been a member of this forum for a number of years and never claimed I’m ‘someone’. Thanks, but chill out.

On the basis of transparency, and practicing what I preach...Ive got my info wrong and looked at it again. But the numbers are less than the £72k I said and it seems it’s £65k a week.

    So when I said ‘I know’ he’s on 72k a week, I actually didn’t! Apologies @simpleMASH

Maybe he’s on £65k basic and with appearance, goal, sponsorship bonuses etc takes home the £100k I was told. Who knows.

Either way, I hope he leaves this summer, but I will always appreciate what he’s done here and he will quite rightly be a Watford legend.

Capology, Sportrac, and other various reputable sites give the same figures and tie in with one another. And I do know two people employed by the club - but that’s not me claiming to be someone or ITK by any stretch before I’m accused of it again. One of those people would be in no position to have any idea how much any player is on and the other said the contract he’s on supposedly is worth £3.75m per annum - how that’s put together, who knows...but it comes out at around £72k a week. But how that person is privy to that info, I don’t know as it’s not their area within the club. So could just be corridor whispers.

So I shouldn’t have said ‘I know’ - because I don’t. But I would make a semi-educated guess his basic wage is in the £65k-£75k a week area. (Could be much higher with bonuses?!)

I’ll leave it at that because I don’t really care. I think he should leave - both for himself and the club’s benefit. My point was based upon (IF) he has a relegation clause in his current deal (which it’s rumoured in one media outlet that he doesn’t) - that at half the above numbers, I wouldn’t be entirely shocked to see us extend his deal. But I hope we don’t.

So he'd be on just a bit more than £65k pw then? :D

Surely it's completely made up data on those websites, which would have no plausible way of obtaining such sensitive private information on such a scale in the UK?

Fair enough. From the tiny amount I’m told, I think it’s broadly accurate and I know many of these websites get info from affiliated agents and managements companies.

But as I say, I’m ducking out of the conversation around this topic as some replies are getting personal and that wasn’t the intention when I was trying to debate and provide info as best I know it.

  19. I think we can safely deduce he’s highly likely to be paid a number between £1 and £100,ooo a week.

Minimum wage is £8.72 per hour, so I think he earns somewhere between £17.44 and £100,000 per week.

It really doesn't matter does it. Regardless of the actual figure it will neither be justified by the role he now plays for the team nor be something we can afford.

Thanks for everything Troy, go have your swansong year in the Prem on a tidy wage and we'll save the pennies.

Honestly with the money being thrown around in football I have no idea anymore. I'm happy Troy has set himself up for life for the 10 years of service he's given us and I hope he gets a good wage at West Brom.

These mega wages of 50k+ aren't viable in the championship though and it's ruined many teams much bigger than us. The sooner we get rid of the big earners like Deeney, Welbeck and hopefully Gray (although I doubt it) the better in my opinion.

finally a sensible post, but to be honest ,why would you go to a West Brom Team that will probably struggle in the prem next year , Murray's Brighton wages are quoted at about 35K
so we could only be looking at a saving of about 1.5K.( based on Deeney @65k).
if it was me, i would just hang around like Gray and Success and run down my contract .

Now that WBA have bought that guy from The spammers, will they still want Deeney? I think maybe not, so we might be stuck with him?

Probably the best way to reduce our losses on Deeney and especially Gray, is to try and loan them out for the most amount we can get any clubs to pay of their wages, even if it is only 25% or so, at least we should be saving some money on them if we can make that happen.

Having said that we might possibly still be able to sell Deeney even if WBA don't want him, but I can't see anyone wanting to buy Gray. In fact we will possibly find it difficult to find a club willing to take him on loan even if they have to hardly any of his wages IMO.

Quite possible we aren’t paying all of Murray’s wages?

Why would he go to WBA? A number of reasons. PL football, closer to home, very unlikely a team that won’t be battling relegation would take him...and as critical as some/most are of Deeney, he certainly doesn’t seem the type who will be happy to just sit around collecting a wage. He will want to be playing football.
