Should be the same as rugby - they are removed from the field of play and temporarily replaced. They should be seen by a doctor or paramedic who isn't employed by the club and is separate from any pressures of making the player return - while I believe physio's and club docs will have the players wellbeing at heart, they aren't immune from the pressures a multi-millionaire football club can place on them as their employer.
I think the decision already is out of the players hands - they can't insist on going back on. They can just say they want to and feel okay to - the decision still lies with the club. That's where I think it needs to change as stated above - it shouldn't even be the club or managers choice...it should be down to an independent medical authority.
I think the impact of making a tactical switch like this is less in Rugby. The temptation to bring on a defender for an attacker if you're a couple of goals ahead would be strong in footy. I suppose the other option would be to allow the other team an extra substitute if a concussion sub is used. Another way to do it would be to have a maximum of 3 tactical subs and 1 or 2 medical subs, eligibility determined by medical team.
Surely by deploying the auto sub rule it would remove the fakery from the game. No superstar striker is getting away with faking an injury then getting subbed. No defender will resist going after a Neymar type of player they know will collapse in a heap at the slightest touch especially knowing they would have to go off on protocol.
Laughable to think that suspected concussion victims should be able to decide if they have concussion.
Or the player that's subbed off has to miss the next game entirely (which would likely be the case anyway if it were an actual head injury/concussion)
No point in playing him if we aren’t going to get the ball in the box quickly as he he too slow to move and react once defenders mark him.
We did get the ball in quickly today but he was waddling around somewhere near the edge of the box. I cannot express the contempt I felt for him when he had his arm up for Kabasele to try to hit a long diagonal but instead he played the ball of the game to Kiko. Deeney was too busy moaning because Kabasele hadn't hit it long and by the time he realised Kiko was in, he couldn't get on the end of an excellent ball into the box. Perfectly encapsulates the vast majority of his performances over the last few years, all about him wanting to be the big man but then failing to actually perform himself.
It is so obvious that Troy being in the team is the reason we are terrible. Just look at the stats, we won every game without him and have lost every game he has played in. How can the manager see this?
I suppose we did when when Quina and Hughes came on but generally we are too slow and take so long on the ball. Sarr needs to get the ball and run with it.
He can't help himself. He just gave his best performance for years against Preston when he only won one header all game and he sees the team sheet with Morrison on it as a big strong defender and he just wants to stand next to him and wrestle rather than play any football. Cue Morrison utterly dominating him and having the easiest afternoon he'll have all season. He has got a footballing brain at this level when he chooses to use it but his strong man who gets the better of him.
A Watford fan rang in to 606 saying that we were crap today and we’re not going to be in the running for promotion if we carry on playing like we have so far this season. So far so unsurprising. However, the caller was then asked for his opinion on Deeney, to which he replied something along the lines of Deeney’s presence being instrumental to any future success we have. Hmm...
Shocking. I'm not sure I've ever known anything quite like our fans utter obsession with him and the complete refusal let go and move on.
Well if there was anyone decent being left out they might be more tempted to. Instead it’s Murray and Percia ..
He was woefully short of the quality needed in the prem, and I was one of his most outspoken critics, and after him going on strike in our greatest hour of need a few months ago I was desperate for him to go. When he stayed I had the slight glimmer of hope that he may do OK against the poorer quality defenders in the Championship, particularly after he looked fitter than he has done for years. But it is pretty clear that he isn't even good enough n this league. Bog standard defenders just cope with his lack of quality, his lack of pace, his lack of any anticipation in the box, his poor shooting and heading, just so easily. He is terrible, and to think he is our Captain, it is embarrassing.
Lets put some balance in this, Troy is not the reason for our poor performances, but he has also not proved to be the savour making us better when played. Irrespective of who has played we have been generally good at home and poor away. Troy had played most of the last 3 games that include our best and worst home games and a normal away performance. Troy has not been a catalyst in our performances improving, but he is also not the only reason we have been disappointing. There are several people who hate Troy and look to criticise him for everything he does, you are welcome to your opinion, but do not think just dropping him from the team will make everything better.
Of course, no one is suggesting that he is to blame for our poor performances. But as Captain, our main forward, our "legend" our "talisman" he is probably one of the mst important players. But if you can tell me what he adds to the team in terms of his actual contribution, I'd be interested to hear it.
Maybe Deeney should have had a lockdown party - that seemed to be more acceptable then him just looking out for his son. Not like he actually missed any key games and I think at the time loads were off training. What is Isaac Success up to these days ? Anyway on the pitch if only Deeney was the only poor player or we had any fit/useful striker to replace him. He has only had one good game - like the whole team really. Are they trying to rely on him too much maybe ? Hoping he bashes a few people around then the likes of Sarr and Pedro can do their business.
I am not trying to big him up, his is our captain and a "legend" not sure he is a "talisman" any more. Just making the point that he is not the only reason for our frustrating performances. So many of our players are not performing to their best for more than a few minutes every game.
Deeney claimed we were "Old Manned" yesterday on the official club site. I can only assume he was talking about himself as he is clearly passed it and was the only old man on display
Its seems every thread has a certain percentage of "its deeney's fault" ,so lets have a thread so we can put the blame on him for anything . I kick it off with i blame deeney for the price of fish and chips!!
My dog had three enormous dumps on our walk yesterday, the last one miles from a bin. I blame Deeney for lack of poo bins
That's a pretty valid criticism though: the more he eats the greater the demand, and with supply being finite then the price will increase - it's basic economics.
I think that's unfair, I think you should start a "Deeney's a legend and and worth every penny" thread for balance.
Due to the amount of meat he must eat, I blame Deeney for climate change, and by extension Covid which is a result of Mankind’s continual encroachment into our natural habitat. This is mainly caused by deforestation to house all the cows he must eat and their food supply, which he would also eat as well if he could.
I have contracted piles. I was sitting on the bog watching YouTube trying to squeeze one out, but was constipated . I happened upon the Deeney documentary and sat there for too long squeezing. Clearly Deeney’s fault !
I'm really sorry to hear that. I had a hemorrhoidopexy about 4 years ago. It was terrible. I couldn't poo for 10 days after and when in finally did, it was like passing razor blades. Since then, touch wood, all good. Hopefully yours are minor and a bit of prep H will see you right.
