We have the upper hand in any negotiations, but what I would be fearful of is a last minute massive bid being accepted before the deadline, with no time to acquire a quality replacement. Is it not the case, however, that would have a potential opportunity to acquire a loan from a premiership team after the transfer deadline has passed? If an offer in the remote region of €10m came in, it would be very difficult to refuse.
You have to remember that even if the club accepts the bid the player can say no. I'm sure the Pozzos/Nani/Duxbury have all spoken to Deeney with regards to the situation. Deeney has said he isn't looking to leave so the club is more than likely to refuse any bids coming our way. January is a very different story though as we will no longer be under the embargo. Still, if Deeney is firing on all cylinders I'm not sure he will want to leave.
He's already said that he is worth more than Bale... I believe. Also this so called news has been circulated with origins from the Daily Mail. They have an agenda against Watford if you analyse their news stories since the Pozzo takeover. It just a story to promote unrest. Ignore it. In fact don't ever read it again.
If we are going to sell, the last day of the January transfer window is silly season. I'm sure a desperate relegation threatened manager would be willing to make a stupid bid in order to attempt to stay up.
Couldn't agree more. The West Ham mafia have it in for us. Boycott this Hitler supporting piece of 5hit.
They wouldn't sell any player without having a suitable replacement already in place ... Pozzo policy rule number 1.
The balls in our court. If we genuinely feel he can do even better than last year than he hasn't reached his potential value yet, he has just signed a new deal and I'm sure he feels he does owe the club some loyalty following our aymbol of loyalty to him last year. He's not going anywhere.
I'll go with your view. Some may call it wishful thinking, I would call it sound, confident, rational reasoning. (I just hope you are right!) PS: I clicked like for your defiant optimism.
The main one for me is the optimum value Pozzo argument. If everyone feels he is vital for this season his value will go up at the end therefore he hasn't reached his optimum value, it's kind of a paradox.
Valid point that nobody seems to have picked up on. Then again at Walsall he was constantly played on the wing. Other than Dyche through necessity no manager has really made him top dog and put that faith in him. Zola has got to be such a huge pull for him to stay. Who else would you want to teach you how to be a striker? He's said a lot about needing a supportive family and supportive club and I don't think he would move unless its for huge money for himself.
I'm not sure he would go all out with a transfer request on the basis that he says he isn't looking. Now I know loyalty in football is a dodgy subject but I believe Troy is good to his word. I may be being naive and letting his goals obstruct my view but I think he has his own unfinished business and wants to gain his promotion to the premier league with Watford as a "thank you" for sticking by him.
This is from a facebook page called Fortress.Britannia (I'm gonna guess they are relatively reliable with Stoke transfers). It appears that Troy Deeney could be a real possibility with Watford very keen on the striker making the move to stoke, and Troy himself wanting the move, so looks like its down to Hughes (Marc). Erm what?!
If they can't even spell their manager's first name correctly, what leads you to believe they're relatively reliable with Stoke transfers?
IF Deeney goes...the pozzo's still have 2 weeks to find a totally unknown wonderkid from deep inside peru. (as long as he passes a drug test)
I'm guessing the Marc refers to one of the admins of that facebook page. No one can be that thick (except scum town fans)
I seriously doubt he's going anywhere. If he has bought into the Pozzo project then he wouldn't be moving to any club who could possibly be in trouble this year. Cardiff & Stoke are two sides who could be in the Championship next season. IMHO he's not moving. If he scores 30 goals he could even have an outside chance of an England call up.
Rooney was no better than Troy last night. Though i'm happy for him to remain unnoticed until after the transfer window closes.
Is Deeney our Di Natale? He's a core player, enjoys playing here and has good prospects for the future here. Thoughts?
At the moment, I think it is too early to say that. I think if we go up, there is plenty of hope that he would be.
Unless a top ten PL club or a big foreign club comes in with a silly money offer of £10m+, TD will be going nowhere!!!
So basically, he's going nowhere. The key issue is that we don't need to sell him to balance the books. By the look of things he's going to have an amazing season that hopefully sends us up. Would he be worth more after that? Of course. If the Pozzos are interested in selling, then 10 million will still be there next August.
Do you literally mean a club that finished in the top 10 last season, if so this includes Swansea, West Brom and West Ham? West Ham could certainly afford £10m.
Last night I looked up old threads about Deeney coming to us and how he was rated after he joined us. He was competing with Sordell/Graham. He did not stand out as a major prospect initially, but there is no doubt that he has improved hugely since he joined us and his attitude since his release from prison has been great. I saw him twice live last season and the TV games and highlights. He is very good at what he does and it is great to have him tied down to a 3 year contract, but there is a part of me that feels that there are plenty of decent forwards who could fill his boots and given the system and style that we play, another striker could grab a large number of goals. In the premiership, forwards have to be of such a high standard that mistakes and misses are simply not tolerated and he will be expected to hit the ground running with any new team. Despite the interest, he may feel that it is worth staying around in a system and group that he is familiar with, with a decent chance of getting a shot at the premiership with us next season. He will be in a position to negotiate a much better wage if we do get promotion. If we don't, he can look for a move at that stage. As much as I respect Troy for what he has done on the pitch for us, I am not convinced that he would be a success in the premiership, if he moved now.
I hold a similar view. Deeney has goals that other strikers wouldn't get but equally has missed as many chances that others would have buried .... if the price is right I'm sure we can replace him fairly easily.
