I don't. I hope we never get to the stage where we're having to hand out £100k a week on a regular basis in order to 'compete'.

If Palace are happy to hand out £40m in wages over the next 5 years on this fella, then good for them. I'm sure the rest of the squad on £40k a week will be thrilled having him around

It’s not unlikely that this wage inflation is holding up any new signings. We, like a few others, are waiting until players get a reality check in the last week. And if they don’t drop their demands **** them. We’ll survive or not without them.

The fact that he was a free agent mitigates a bit against the size of those wages, but even then if that figure is true it's still an expensive signing - pretty much the equivalent to an £18million transfer fee, plus £100k a week 5-year contract.

How about we forgive Everton for their misdemeanors, if they give us Ashley Williams for free.

Training away from the first team, and much better than Britos.

He's not really any better than Britos and that's saying something!

He was one of their worst players last year.

That would harden our stance against them, he's an absolute liability, one of the worst CBs in the league at this point, legs utterly gone and prone to ridiculous freakouts to boot.

He definitely was poor last year, but I thought he struggled under the pressure of justifying such a large fee and having a string of poor managers. Can't say I watched too much of Everton last year however.

    Edit: He's going to Stoke.

He was poor the season before that too and also for his national team. He peaked at Euro 2106 and has been woeful since. His performances over the last 2 years make Mariappa look like Maldini.

Still rated or yesterdays fish & chip paper?

    On another note;

West Ham signed another Portuguese player (Xande Silva) and seem intent on mining the country for talent with arrangements with Benfica and one other top club (I can't remember who now!) looking to be put in place.

West Ham United - clever management or all that's wrong with football?

He's good, wouldn't be surprised if he turns out better than Cathcart and Kaba. If Burnley are in for him though then, as bizarre as it sounds, they'd likely get him ahead of us at the moment.

Last seen getting sent off for elbowing a Burnley player for no reason when Everton were 2-1 down.

Everton weighing up a £3m bid for Reece Oxford according to SSN.

Can’t see they’d let him go that cheap but I’d be in for him at that price. If we aren’t going to buy any recognised starting CB’s we may as well start to bring through some youngsters like we are with Wilmot.

If it’s £3mil it’s worth it. However West Ham only said a couple weeks ago they would only entertain offers around £10mil

    http://www.skysports.com/football/n...ece-oxford-offers-and-looking-to-sell-for-10m

West Ham are just as dumb as Everton with their money, so who knows. They ask for £10mil, sell for £3mil, that about sums them up.

If there was a Premier League pairs game, Everton and West Ham would certainly be a pair. Both think they are bigger than what they are, both have terrible owners, one of them always wins the transfer market (they rotate each window), neither one of them has a clue about player valuation, both think they are breaking into the CL places this year (every year), and both have the most arrogant fans in the Prem (except the family members in my family that are West Ham fans, they know their place).

Gibson is by far a better defender than Mawson and by the look of if cheaper and fit. I can't understand why nobody else is bidding for him at the moment. At that price surely it's a no brainer

Can’t help but feeling £15 million for Ben Gibson might be a shrewd piece of business. Prodl, Britos & Mariappa are simply not good enough.

With our forward options very limited right now with just Deeney, Gray, Okaka and Jakubiak looking to fill two spots, what are the options open to the club?

Okaka can't be staying can he?

So that's two senior pro's and a young lad with no top flight experience. Oh dear.

Another forward to come in for a fee then and I wonder if we'll look to loan a young home grown player from one of the top 6 sides giving us five players (Deeney, Gray, 1x bought player, Jakubiak, 1x homegrown loan).

I've no idea who that could be - anyone here with suggestions or possible targets?

I don't think this guy is the answer though.

It is/was Goodison and part of a testicular cancer campaign (I think) over 10 years ago.

I was going to suggest Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton but that would've required a picture of a giant turd instead.

There must be a few of our young England stars that have recently won their age group world cups knocking around in the develpment squads of PL clubs that might just be available to take on loan.

And I would think that WFC might just be the sort of club that some of our so called PL big clubs might think could be the ideal place to send their youngsters to develop even further.

Slim pickings with the youngster (or homegrown) from a top-6 club thought I had earlier!

The forwards named in the latest England under-21 squad (Toulon tournament in May/June) makes for depressing reading although certain restrictions on date of birth meant some of the usual squad members weren't available.

    Tammy Abraham (Chelsea)
    https://www.transfermarkt.com/tammy-abraham/profil/spieler/331726
Adam Armstrong (Newcastle United - potentially joining Blackburn Rovers on a permanent deal)

    Edward Nketiah (Arsenal)

    Lukas Nmecha (Manchester City)
    https://www.transfermarkt.com/lukas-nmecha/profil/spieler/314288

Top 6 sides and possible loan options for players listed with their senior squads from last season.

    Arsenal
    Danny Welbeck
    - 27y/o, 6'. Highly improbable a loan deal would be available. Injury prone so should fill the Okaka role perfectly.
    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-welbeck/profil/spieler/67063
Edward Nketiah - 19y/o, 5' 7". As listed above. Scored well at every level played at so far.
    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eddie-nketiah/profil/spieler/340324

    Chelsea
    Tammy Abraham
    - 20y/o, 6' 2". As listed above. Didn't do too well for Swansea but with a years experience under his belt... no, me neither.
    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tammy-abraham/profil/spieler/331726

    Liverpool
    Danny Ings
    - 26y/o, 5' 8". Homegrown, injury prone & Klopp has said there'll be changes in their squad before the window closes.
    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-ings/profil/spieler/134294
Dominic Solanke - 20y/o, 6' 1". Very raw. Not an outstanding youngster by any means. Maybe he's had a talent injection over the summer though.
    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-solanke/profil/spieler/258889
Daniel Sturridge - 28y/o, 5' 9". Broken. There'd be absolutely no point in signing him. Nailed on to come then.
    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/daniel-sturridge/profil/spieler/47082

    Manchester City
    Lukas Nmecha
    - 19y/o, 6'. Never heard of him but like Arsenal's Nketiah, scored well at age levels so far.

Wouldn’t mind Rhian Brewster from Liverpool on loan but I suspect Liverpool would rather he plays youth football as opposed to coming and likely getting a few games here and there at a club like ours. Very unlikely he’ll be dislodging any of Liverpool’s strikers though and the path for a very talented 18/19yr old at a club like that must seem very hard.

I'd rather we developed players we actually owned tbh, unless there'd be a very good chance that we could make any loan deal permanent (which if the player is very highly rated then it's a difficult ask).

Even then, there aren't really any such players who could be available and worth taking on loan, especially in positions where we could do with players.

Take the England team which won the Under-20 World Cup last year (and which one might expect to be the most likely of such youth teams to have players close to making the step up). These are the players which played in the final vs Penaranda's Venezuela:

    GK - Woodman - Everton - don't need
LB - Walker-Peters - Spurs - good prospect, will play a fair few minutes for Spurs this season
CB - Clarke-Salter - Chelsea - has gone on loan to Vitesse for the season
CB - Tomori - Chelsea - played a lot of games on loan at a poor Hull team last season. Supposedly did ok, but not great there, very unlikely to be ready to step up to the PL.
RB - Kenny - Everton - will play games for Snake this season, don't really need more RBs anyway
LW - Lookman - Everton - will either rotate with Richie or be sold to RB Leipzig
CM - Onomah - Spurs - perhaps would have been the most likely, fairly defensive CM who was mostly (though not always) a starter on loan at Villa last year. However, Fulham and Burnley have already registered an interest in taking him on loan this season, but with Spurs currently having an injury crisis in CM it appears that they will be turned down for now. With all our midfielders fully fit he would never start for us anyway.
CM - Cook - Bournemouth - regular for Bournemouth, his next move will be being sold for fairly big money.
RW - Dowell - Everton - Was meant to be good on loan at Forest last season. No idea if he'll be in Snake's squad this season, but he's not the profile of player we need and we're not gonna do business with them anytime soon either.
ST - Solanke - Liverpool - Only signed recently by Liverpool. They'll stick with trying to develop him themselves for a bit longer. Looks absolute pony so far for them though, wouldn't even get in our team ahead of Gray or Deeney.
    ST - Calvert-Lewin - Everton - Sssssnake

Used Subs (who also featured as starters in other matches in the tournament):
LW - Maitland-Niles - Arsenal - Can play box-t0-box CM, left-wing, or attacking CM, looks an excellent prospect. He'll likely get a decent number of minutes for Arsenal this season.
RW - Ojo - Liverpool - Liverpool are fine with selling him this window and West Brom have a £12mil bid on the table. Fulham have also been linked. I doubt we're going to spend decent money on another RW given the Deulofeu signing. Hard to tell how good he really is either given Pool being happy to sell and Brom being the only side with a definite bid made.

Foden from Man City on loan would be a great addition in midfield. Can’t see him starting many games for city when all their players return. Could even be worth a cheeky 10m bid to go permanent?
