Arrivals from some countries (including Italy, Germany, Greece and Portugal) in which we might be shopping will not be subject to the fourteen day quarantine. Arrivals from France, Spain, Austria and many other countries will be. I wonder if that will affect who we target or changes the timeline for finalising certain targets. Unless they have gone elsewhere recently, Sierralta and Troost-Ekong would not have to quarantine (unless Italy gets removed from the travel corridor list). Israel is not on the travel corridor list so Cohen or Glazer or any other players of interest from Maccabi Tel Aviv would have to quarantine. There was a great article in the Athletic about how Norwich appear to have broken the rules with the integration of one of their signings (full back Xavi Quintilla) arriving from Spain not quarantining. The article explained the dynamics of the quarantine rules and how they might be affecting the market in a way that has been overlooked by most media outlets. Norwich broke quarantine guidelines by allowing new signing to train with squad https://theathletic.com/2010806/202...-train-with-squad/?source=user_shared_article
Shon Weismann going to Real Valladolid apparently according to Guillem Ballague. Signing has been personally requested by none other than owner Fat Ronaldo - not hard to imagine he knows a decent striker too when he sees one.
Well he certainly knew how to find the back of the net. I know absolutely zilch about the Austrian league but his record is excellent. Wouldn't Zlad already know about him?
Was impressed by Karlan Grant when Huddersfield were in the Premier. 22 scored 18 in the champ last season and a Londoner. Then read HTFC turned down 15 mill. Bugger. Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapatalk
Not surprised really, Huddersfield probably would have been in League 1 if not for him. Quality player, did well in that half season in the Prem even though Huddersfield in general were pathetic (didn't he score against us?)
So, let’s say Capoue and Doucoure both leave to Everton and Valencia respectively for a combined £35-40m. Anyone got some good suggestions for who we bring in to replace them? With Quina, Hughes, Chalobah, Cleverley and Dele-Bashiru, it may be that we only bring in a DM to replace Capoue. Who do people have in mind?
Do we actually realise how insane it is to suddenly rely on the likes of Cleverley, Dele-Bashiru and even Chalobah and assume we won't need a lot more than one DM when our two mainstay midfielders piss off? Chalobah - potentially decent player, but barely played in over two years because of fitness issues. Cleverley - crap, ageing, nothing player who again has struggled long term with fitness and injuries. Dele-Bashiru - barely kicked a ball in the professional game and could literally be the midfield Jerome Sinclair for all we know. The club and our fans are mental if they take the mindset of "they'll do" again, just like we did last season with our awful squad. Look how that ended.
If the Capoue transfer is true, then that leaves: Hughes Chalobah Quina Cleverley Dele-Bashiru. It's not a thin midfield, but I wouldn't want than one injury there either. I'd be after Ben Pearson from PNE to bolster our defensive midfield options.
It's potentially a very good midfield in the Championship, but my god is it thin for a shortened calendar! Expect to see us linked with some midfielders very soon then, Dan Glazer would be good
No he would not - even those who have watched Israeli football regularly and posted on here don't think he's good enough.
I do like the look of Glazer but I liked the idea of him coming in to rotate with Capoue and ultimately succeed him more than the prospect/risk of him joining from the Israeli League as a starter. Ben Pearson also looks good and only 1year left on his contract. Someone else who could be interesting (particularly as a rotation option) would be Ovie Ejaria. Reading were meant to sign him from Liverpool at the end of his loan there (for £2m or so) but are having big cashflow issues. Strikes me as good value.
He seems more a Doucoure type player though, not a DM. £2mil sounds very low for a player of his ability though.
Rumours that before we sign off on the Doucoure to Everton deal, we want to bring in a replacement, so Ejaria could be that
Definitely to both. I think Reading structured the deal as a loan with an obligation to buy simply to defer the payment to this summer but then COVID-19 meant their financial situation was worse rather than better. It could be that Liverpool drive a hard bargain should other clubs come in but a few of the articles I read a while back didn’t give off that vibe. So maybe there’d be a small premium but still well under £5m. If Reading are having cashflow issues, going in for John Swift would be good too (although again he’s much less defensive than Capoue) but he’s been linked with Sheff Utd quite a bit so probably beyond us. Edit: apparently Reading’s fee for Ejaria would be £3.5m not £2m. My bad. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...iverpool-forced-wait-transfer-agreed-18788364
We've not been linked with him though. It could also well be Garner on loan, who we have been linked with and who can play across the midfield while providing a goal threat. We'd still need another ball winner though as only Hughes is alright at that of our current lot should Capoue leave but I wouldn't say he was an excellent defensive shield.
The tricky thing in replacing Capoue is finding someone that is an effective ball winner, including in the air, but also good at keeping and progressing the ball. We haven’t been linked with Ejaria, I was just suggesting him. Neither him nor Garner would be an effective Capoue replacement.
Time for Elton to gift Lionel Messi's wages to the club. Come on Elton, can't take it with you fella.
Valentin Antov would be a good addition in that area but not as a ready made replacement. I don’t think we can replace Capoue as easily as that now we have gone down. I think it will be a case of adapting which may be what Ivic wants anyway. He may well have sanctioned the move for Capoue as I doubt it’s a transfer that’s being made due to finances.
Seeing these rumours flying around is so depressing. Watching our Premier League squad unravel and only the dregs remain. I’ve been pretty pessimistic about players leaving and I can only blame this disappointment on myself for believing that b***** Leventhal’s article last week.
Offer Harry Maguire a year out of the Premier League gold fish bowl. With a loan move to our backwater in the second tier. Offer to pay £15,000 a week of his Man Utd wages. With his conviction he won’t be able to play in Europe and won’t be able to travel to US. Only downside with both Cathcart and Dawson in the squad we might not be able to guarantee him an automatic place in the team.
I suggest that we abandon all hope, because it's becoming abundantly clear that this window is going to be a complete and utter disaster.
The sad thing is that relegation gave me hope that we may see a shift in direction and the way the club is run, that it might open the eyes of Pozzo and Co, but it's becoming clear that that's not the case, right down the that fat ****ing **** Giraldi instantly overseeing Ivic's first day of training.
What really struck me from the first pre-season training video is when Quina, Ngakia and Dele-Bashiru all walked out in a line is that they're all tiny. We don't have any imposing defenders, Dawson is the closest we've got but he's so rash he undermines it. Wilmot might be ok but he's not strong either. We're about to lose our two most physical centre midfielders. Unless we sign some actual men soon instead of small, possibly quite talented, children we are going to get bullied in the Championship. The myth of big man Troy isn't going to cut the mustard. We've been promoted three times to the Premier League and every time we had a spine of proper men in the team that could mix it as well as play football. So far, we've brought no-one in who fits this bill, nor have we been linked with anyone that would.
Chalobah and Cleverley are good enough for championship maybe not every game but don’t forget these have been international’s Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A young lad just joined marseille maybe he would be worth looking at. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
