is now a free agent and will join us in the championship apparently he would be a good signing. Seemed dangerous for fulham when he had the ball at his feet
Radzinski is a good player IMHO. If it were true instead of one of the usual silly season rumours I would be quite happy.
Hmmmm, wouldn't be against the move, but don't we have enough strikers? I'd rather we signed someone younger (or HH!!!)
HH is getting on a bit now. I heard from a mate that is a Fulham ST holder he getting a slow and fat!! He could just be saying that.
Wouldn't say no to Radzinski joining us, would certainly give us an option on the wing, but surely he is on a pretty good wage at Fulham. I wouldn't be suprised to see him head home to join Mo Johnstone at Toronto instead, as their 'Beckham' player
I read the rumour somewhere too. Radzinski could add some flair and experience to our midfield. He'd be a welcome addition to the team.
A big wage is not such a problem when a player comes on a free, as long as other players are not upset by it. These days I would think that most players are sensible enough to accept that if we want to improve as a club, we will probably have to bring in some high earners to do it.
I think giving Marlon improved terms shows we're willing to pay decent money for quality. I think Aidy's also realised that quality costs and that you cannot always find the hidden gems. When it comes to other players' feelings about someone making more than themselves - it's Aidy's job to smooth any wrinkles. But I can imagine that it can cause some unrest if say Kabba was on a huge wage compared to say Priskin, and yet Priskin was chosen week after week. That's why I think performance based wages is great (for some players at least). Francis for instance would be dirt cheap if on performance based wage.
Just wondering, didn't someone mention before that Marlon (& Gavin) had clauses in their contracts saying that no-one could come in on more money, which was partly why we had trouble attracting people in Jan, as anyone wanting more than 10k/week would actually cost more for both of them as well. If that was the case I wonder if it has been removed from his new contract otherwise we will end up with the same problem again.
I presume that it's been taken out of Marlon's contract as a part of his new deal. Whether the new deal means Mahon gets a raise too I don't know - but surely the clauses must go.
Only an idiot would agree to a clause like that from the club`s point of view, as a player can get injured and never recapture previous form. Also it can also work against the player, as say with Mahon - he may not get an extended (or new) contract if the clause remained, whereas the club might take more of a chance on keeping him (or not selling him early) if his contract was on `normal terms`.
Agree with what hornetmaster said, no club would be THAT stupid to put in such a clause. Apart from Leeds.
But I thought (from previous comments on these boards) that Watford HAD been that stupid before so who's to say they wouldn't be again.......
Whats in it for the player other than the kudos of being the most payed player at the club.Surely if your happy playing for set wages your happy playing for that not what others get unless your substantially lower.
I don't think clauses like that are wholly unrealistic. It's another incentive offered by a club to keep people on board, so of course they gain from it.
True or false, I'm not sure I do seem to remember some people saying on here that Marlon did have such a clause, of course that does not mean that he did. However, I would imagine that if he ever did have such a clause, that it would probably have been removed when he signed his recent new deal. As if the club have real premiership ambitions, we are going to have to start paying genuine premiership wages to attract the quality of players we need. I have no recollection of anyone saying Mahon had such a deal though?
