Remember a month or so ago people were clamouring for the good old days when we were crap but at least we had players who cared.

Now we've got a player who cares and gives 100% (110%?) for every minutes PLUS has actual ability (not the most technically gifted but 80 apps for Utd 13 caps for England) and he's massively underappreciated.

That specific type of role suits him perfectly. Manic aggression in his high press and it's contagious as he demands it from those around him also.

I feel like in more 'evenly matched' games where we're looking to create a bit more or break teams down that are happy to sit deep that JP or Tufan may get the nod ahead of him, but Cleverley definitely has a role to play in certain games this season.

TC has been simply brilliant recently, not having to do everything in the midfield himself really helps.

Yep, he's always looked better in a three and Ranieri knows exactly how to use him. You won't always get the quality with Tom but the team seems to have so much drive when he's in it. Cleverley and Sissoko really are excellent players to have in front of a ball player like Louza.

Absolutely vital in our current pressing style of playing . Doesn’t get the headlines but i can’t see anyone else doing his current role as well .

It's just a shame he's absolutely useless once the football ends up at his feet.

Missed clevs yesterday always puts on a shift regardless

Seems to be one of those players who looks better when he isn’t playing as none of the other midfielders appear willing or able to close down and at least try to tackle.

Again that's the annoying thing relying on clevs as we have no one else to play that role ,the one he did against man utd an annoying old rat who gets in your face ,came off at brentford for pedro we all no the rest

Stop telling me this guy is capable.

An utterly pathetic footballer at this level who looked like some sort of competition winner when he came on.

His legs seem to have gone in the last few months.

Him being shyt now doesn't mean he wasn't decent for a few games earlier in the season.

He hasn’t started a league game for nearly two months, is it any wonder he was rusty yesterday? Inexplicably taking off Cleverley early at Brentford and not starting him against Spurs and in the crunch games against Newcastle and Norwich is likely what cost us points and Ranieri his job. Even under a new manager, for the first 20 or so minutes, it was the same passive defensive play, waiting for things to happen rather than make things happen. We’re much more positive and energetic when Cleverley is in the starting line-up to drive us on, and I hope Roy isn’t too put off by one poor 20-minute spell to see that.

I've just double checked the thread, no one has suggested he wasn't.

But hopefully when we get our proper players back his tiny purple patch will be just a beautiful dream.

Cleverley is nowhere near good enough to be the difference between getting points or not from a game.

It actually was the case vs Brentford though, even if not the others.

Plenty of other factors, Kucka handing them cheap possession not once, but twice leading up to the pen, then WTE diving in for the pen itself were all far greater contributors to our downfall.

We became a lot more panicked and passive though after Clevs went off, which added to the pressure the team was facing and contributed to the mistakes being more likely.

I'm of course not excusing the terrible errors by Kucka and WTE, but I reckon we'd have at least got a draw in that game had Clevs stayed on and helped us to stay up the pitch a bit more.

We are so lucky to have this man starting Premier League football matches in 2022.

What a player. Definitely not about 5 years past his limited best and embarrassingly out of his depth at this stage in his career.

Absolutely terrible today from Tom, only Kucka saved him from being the worst player on the pitch.

What’s the point in getting a good tackle in (which they both did on a few occasions today) if you immediately surrender possession to the opposition in a more dangerous position than the one in which you won the ball?

I wonder if there are statistical models that value a player’s ball-winning based in part on their ball retention subsequent to winning the ball because Kucka and Cleverley’s tackling is essentially useless.

What a state of affairs that TC and the Cooker are selected.
Both have been excellent players but the game is so fast at this level it goes on around them.
The energy and mobility in our midfield is long gone.
If they are they are the answer I dread to think what the question is!

I thought that TC was actually our best MF player yesterday, but he is definitely only a 60 minute man these days as he visiblly tires and starts making mistakes after that.

Being slagged off by the usual "supporters" but I thought Cleverley played well yesterday. Made some good interceptions and put through a few decent forward passes.

It's amazing how many of our garbage players our fans frequently insist "played well", as we continue to lose miserably week after week after week.

No, Cleverley did not "play well" yesterday, he was crap, as he is most weeks, just like the vast majority of the rest of the team.

In fairness it only appears to be the forum troll and the resident loony saying it, so in reality all that does is serve to further reinforce just how utterly atrocious he was yesterday.

I like Tom, I think he's handy to have in the squad albeit definitely not a starter. However even I know he was absolute gash yesterday, just a truly horrific performance.
