The jury is out on the crowd noise for me, initially it did not seem too bad as it seemed to give a slightly better atmosphere, but after a while it began to get on my nerves as it came across as to false, so I switched back to no crowd noise.

As for the game, it was boring, and as usual we woz robbed as Villa got a point they should not have

At least we are not in the bottom three though, as I feared we might be before kick off.

Each team decides their own ‘windows’. It’s just designed to stop a time wasting bar steward making 5 subs in 5 successive minutes at the end of a match where they’re hanging on.

Well that's a point extra for Villa they should not have. The only logical explanation after watching that is the game is fixed. There's no other reasonable conclusion you can make.

It's not possible for all technology including GLT and VAR to fail and for all officials not to see a clear goal. If anyone believes it's just one of those things then I expect they believe in Peter Pan and Santa.

    I did the same.

Also why did the stadium announcer call out the teams before kick off?

Apparently the goalkeeper and defender blocked the cameras on the goal line but still sure VAR could been used.

Good job Villa didn't then go on and win!

Would have been even more embarrassing.

    The excuse from Hawkeye

What a load of horse*****. Anyone who believes that is a fool. Was there anything strange about the position of players? Looked fairly routine to me. ALL the TV cameras picked up the incident.

What about the official on VAR? What's his excuse? F***ing joke.

Now find a statement from the VAR saying why he didn’t step in to overrule the (non) decision.

My conclusion is that the officials running the technology are incompetent.

I think if you've been told how ******* great the goal line is 1000 times and how **** the VAR system is 10,000 times, youd need to be pretty brave to delay the game 5 minutes because it looks a bit like it might have been wrong.

Yup. The worst thing about this is goal line technology is now back in doubt, having been completely trusted for several seasons. There’s going to be loads of tedious debates about it now. Sigh. “Yeah but remember the Sheffield United goal at Villa...blah blah..”

I dont know much, but I do know the goal line is intended to be set from the width of the posts, so theres no "if the line is the same as the post, it is the post".

I think it's something a little more sinister than that. It happens far too often for it not to be.

At least Villa didn't win but jesus nothing changes in GT and VAR. Sheff Utd robbed of three points.

If that had been a top team they probably would have got a cheap penalty to compensate for the non goal.

There's no way you can possibly say that for sure.

What their statement is saying is that the specific combination of player positions combined with the position of the ball relative to the goalpost provided sufficient occlusion that the system could not or did not make a determination.

Unless you're intimately familiar with exactly how Hawkeye and its cameras work, instantly dismissing their explanation is a bit strong.

They've essentially come out and admitted there is a flaw in their system and apologised for it. Not sure what else we can expect.

Apologies to the rest of the forum for the 40 pages I've just added to this thread. :)

You absolutely need the crowd noise IMO. By instinct I initially put on the PL channel without any crowd noise. After about 10 minutes I was desperately scrabbling around pressing the red button trying to add some sort of sound, then I realised it was the default on main event.

What a load of sh1te. The whole point of VAR is to check for clear and obvious errors. To me, there is no clearer error than the ball CLEARLY crossing the line (in the wide shot, the line is where Mings is standing, and the ball is clearly behind Mings, therefore signalling a goal) and not being given. I understand the goal-line technology can fail, but surely VAR should have stepped in and told Michael Oliver the ball had crossed the line? Unbelievable. This game is bent and has been for years

Imagine on the final day we go down and Villa stay up by one goal difference- it'll be this shambles of a decision that costs us. I bet you

There's always a few that will defend the indefensible or justify the unjustifiable. Of course it's horse*****. This system has been 100% accurate in 1000's of games until today. A goalkeeper being pushed over the line by his own defender, which were the only players involved in the incident and that combination was enough to screw up a previously infallible system? Seriously....you really believe their explanation? If you do, then you will also believe the word "gulibable" is the only word not in the English dictionary. If you don't believe me, look it up.

Clearly something else occurred, which they prefer not to mention, and would rather come out with a lame excuse that the keeper was in such a position with the ball that "occluded" (whatever the f*ck that word means) SEVEN cameras from seeing what happened. I cannot believe they think people are so stupid. Ok, some people are, but the majority of people will see right through this and come to the conclusion that this does not add up.

I really hope the game is not fixed, but there are so many things that go on, which are basically impossible not to see. VAR was supposed to stop all this. The first game back, very high profile. Players on one knee to send a message to the world, then they do something as blatent as this. I only hope that someone somewhere will rat out these match fixers once and for all.

Simple problem is for whatever reason rather than use some common sense to help the on pitch ref they aren't allowed to over rule if the ref doesn't signal a goal..

In the vast majority of games it’s never used so it’s not been 100% accurate in thousands of games, it’s been 9000 games before there has been a mistake, but how many actual decisions has it made in that time?

The high volume of games and relative low number of decisions is precisely what’s lead to this problem. An unwavering belief it’s 100% accurate even to the extent people disbelieve their own eyes because the supposedly infallible technology can’t possibly be wrong because it never has been before.

This mistake had to inevitably happen so that it can never happen again.

Like I said there's always a few that will defend the indefensible or justify the unjustifiable. Making excuses for the highly implausible.

To me, it's just not possible for a goal like this to be missed. With VAR, TV coverage, 5 match officials, Hawkeye all trained on the goal at that precise moment. A keeper standing with the ball in his hands for several seconds behind his goal line, yet we're supposed to believe it's possible this was not seen.

    Give your head a wobble.
