Is it just fickle fortune? Have we simply been lucky with the low amount of injuries (touch wood) so far this season?

Has it just been that those who have been injured haven't been hugely missed (Prodl, Britos, Kaboul, Okaka, Hughes(?) etc.) or have been mainly unknown quantities in terms of impact (Penerada, Chalobah).

I'd say the only injury we've had that has depleted us was Deulofeu back towards the start.

How much credit should go to the new and revised medical team? I suppose as outsiders we can only judge by the results we see, so hopefully the problem has been sorted and the Pozzos deserve another stern salute in their way of managing a football club.

They saw the problem. Openly identified it. Analysed it. Corrected it.

The only thing I would say is that the information coming out of the treatment room has not noticeably improved. But again, maybe they have their reasons for that also. Us grubby gossipy terrace oiks don't need to know everything.

I guess Gray will be this season's "what is up with him" long term injury but yes we do have a better record it seems.

Mind you they never really confirmed what happened to Kabasele... he had to himself on Twitter.

So far so good this season. Communication remain dreadful though, whether by design or incompetence (probably the former).

We have heavily invested in much needed state of the art medical aural technology and a high end ENT cryogenic chamber for ears.

Could Kabs update us on on his twitter as to how he is now feeling so we can update the treatment room then we can workout when he will be back, if not weds he certainly won’t be required v Woking!

If Kabbs is off playing for a while, could he transfer briefly the forum?

His humour & positive approach are inspiring.

He would have to lose the positivity, of course.

Luckily for us it's mainly the crap players who are getting injured this season. Britos, Kaboul and Gray are hardly significant losses.

I doubt Gray is injured. He may of been secretly loaned out to a super finishing school. When he comes back every shot will fly into the <insert quip here>.

Now that the season is at a close, I think we can say that the new medical team has delivered a remarkable improvement. We'll done to them, and to the Pozzos for sorting the shambles out.

Definitely an element of luck involved too, along with training levels etc, but totally agree.

The silver lining is that, if he has been to a finishing school, Dre will know which is the fish knife.

Extraordinary improvement but we were still in the bottom half for injuries.

To replace I'm Still Standing please god. If I get handed a Lyric sheet at the Vic next season I will start a partition to change it to a Geri Halliwell song. See the Watford connection?

The fact that there have been no major injuries to have disrupted the first team is proof that the club has corrected the problems of the medical team. In the first season in the EPL, the medical team were excellent, but coinciding with the dismissal of Richard Collinge, things went south very quickly.

There's no coincidence last season mirrored the first season in many ways. Both had a good FA Cup run, both saw the majority of our players fit and both saw the best points returns.

It's a vital component for any club, especially a small club like Watford. We cannot afford too many injuries to key players. When you consider we have a lot of older pro's, especially defenders, they've done a remarkable job getting so many games out of the likes of Capoue, Deeney, Holebas, Cathcart, Foster, Janmaat, Mapps etc.

    Good point.

Didn't we have one of the oldest squads?

Shame we topped the Naughty Step league for yellows.

Twice as many as Klopp's Liverpool!

Afraid it's been a trend ever since we came back up. In the world of marginal gains you'd like to think this is something that would be properly analysed and worked on by the coaching staff. I'd bet you're more likely to get favourable decisions if the refs see you as a nice bunch of lads. Rather than a team for whom you've got to remember to pack two pencils in your kit bag and cancel your Sunday plans because you'll be report writing.

The top three clubs are the bottom three clubs for yellow cards.

    Weird.

  32. nornironhorn

    Not really.

You'd expect the top 3 to have the ball the most out of any teams and therefore be less likely to get bookings. Added to that, they have the best players in the league who will tend to time tackles better, know when to make a tackle, not need to take as many 'yellows for the team', etc.

Of course there are a few outliers (Huddersfield, etc) but I'd have expected the likes of Liverpool and City to get the least amount of bookings.

Not sure all Citeh's tackles were perfectly timed acts of wonder.

Is there an 'I'll swap shirts after with Vincent' factor at play amongst the refs?

If referees properly enforced the rules on diving, those 3 clubs would be considerably higher the top.

    Small margins.

Shouldn't Gino pre print a report on Holebas for the refs?

Reduces risk that Moss etc miss Liverpool on GoS because of tedious admin.
