Is there going to be a book open on where we finish next season? I'd like to get some 'orns on now while there are loads of people who think we'll go straight back up.

The assumptions of youthful naivity, Chewy my friend.

Question - what happened after the relegaion to the old
4th division after the loss to Walsall.

Answer - We got a very young manager called Mr Taylor. Our youth team players were progressing nicely and we rose from the centre of the earth to an Fa cup final, Europe and runners up in old league one.

Don't kock it until you've experienced it. It's not nice going down, I agree. Who's to say we wouldn't get relgated from the premeir next season if we stay up? That would be even worse and much more questionable about management and board level decisions.

What promotion last season ? A real bonus. Chewy, where do you think WFC will get its money from to compete in the championship had we not gone up and got the bonus dosh?

I was just like you when I was a teenager... going down to the old 4th div was the end of the world at the time, to me.

You are way off the mark there paddy, it's far from the end of the world to me. I'm tired of the inevitable defeat each week, i enjoy away games but am struggling to find the enthusiasm to bother each week.

Not the end of the world to me, but i'm not going to start rejoicing in the fact that we're going back to the championship like some people on here are doing. People with the CCC badge as their signature and people seemingly being happy that we're going down.
I want to be competing in the best league in the world, not the poxy championship and i'm definately not going to start being happy about going down just because there will be "better away days with the hardcore support", that is a trivial issue as far as i'm concerned.

All this talk of championship is ridiculous, relegation and playing at a lower standard IS NOT A GOOD THING, i think it's about time some people realised that.

Playing at a standard where you can compete has to be better than not being able to buy a win ???

I think we do have a problem in as much as we overachieved last season and we don't appear to have moved on much. We now have lost 15 goal last term Ash, Marlon is crocked and Hendo couldn't buy a goal.

The Championship has been a graveyard for team after team going down thinking that they will find it easy. More often than not they struggle and the disappointment of the fans amplifies the problem. Even for seemingly bomb-proof characters like Demerit or Mahon it will be a test of motivation and there will be temptations to get away for some.

GT's last season was a case in point. It was really awful and once we wobbled we couldn't turn it around. The atmosphere was the pits.

Next season will be a test whether Aidy's improvements off the pitch have really told and a test of whether Aidy and the club can be consistently successful buyers in the transfer market. The later is yet unproved.

Thats why I think if we go down - and even one win would have me dreaming we might not - we need some radical change, not I hasten to add the manager.

I'll agree with all that, moose.

if/when we go down to be honest i'll enjoy the season(that is not sayin i want us to get relegated but it all seems inevitable) hopefully aidy will continue to get good young players in and we can really start to build for an assault on the premiership wether it be next season or in 2/3 seasons time.

Chewy - glad you feel that way - its not the end of the world. What actually is supporting a football team actually about for an individual. Watford fans wait for some glory, enjoy it and then wait for the next bout of glory. Thats how its been for me. The fact you stick with the club through the shyte is the most important issue.

    berkshirehorn presumably I upset/disappointed someone

I sort of prefer being tonked in the premiership to stuffing sides like southend and colchester tbh. Agreed it would be better if we thought we had the slightest chance of competing on an even level but i sincerely believe the club is in the best position it has ever been to achieve that over the next four or five years.

Having said that i loved it travelling to places like northampton and the like in the fourth div. Even when losing with Keen in charge

You saved me a great deal of typing, thanks Moose as I was largely going to say exactly the same. Many of the players we have signed over the last 12 months (Smithy, Powell, Francis, Seanla, Kamara, Jarrett, Priskin) have been an inexplicable waste of time and wages, as they are never going to be good enough. We need to cut out the rot from the squad and actually bring some players in (like Shittu) who raise the standard of the team. It is no good just signing for or five teenage wanabees in every possition and hoping that one will surprise everyone by becoming a diamond, we actually need to bring in some real quality in all areas in order to give us a real chance of not only getting promoted, but of actually competing when we get back to the Prem.

I think Powell only came in as cover which we needed whilst I did think Francis would be a good player.

Smith is rather hit and miss whilst Priskin actually needs games to prove himself and is still young.

Jarrett is a no-body I agree whilst the other 2 are youngsters I guess but we have lots of good ones in the Youth side already.

I do hope people still support Aidy and give him the chance to rebuild a decent side based around the likes of Shittu,Bouazza,Mahon and Hoskins rather than act like a load of panic striken people concerned we are doomed for ever just because we will relegated.

The gloryhunters will leave and the true fans will still support the Golden Boys through thick and think next season I am sure.

Players will want to come next season as Aidy is so positive he will make them believe promotion is possiable.

Could do with playing better football though...that would be my only concern.

The point about our football and playing better - when it works it is good football, fast, exciting ad creates chances if not goals - Everton away we ripped their defence to shreds during the game, Bolton away we played some great stuff and various other away games. The fact is it has deterioted since MK got injured and unfortunately DH is a different type player to MK and doesn't have the natural abilty MK does ot hold the ball up and then use it himself if need be.

I like the look of hOskis, Tamas Moses... good championship seasons for them next term aong with MK -

will be looking to score 100 goals concede 50= + 50 goal differnce and record points - value for money season, to make up for this one.
